No the Octosquid is real.It was called an 'Octosquid' because whereas other squid have eight arms and two tentacles, this species only had eight arms and no tentacles, hence 'Octo'.

It was later discovered however that the tentacles were most likely torn off during capture.

Can someone answer me this question?? How can we tell if some of the animals we just discovered are an endangered species when for all we know they could simply in fact be a NEW species. Wouldnt population growth gradually increase as time progressed??
