I think with the new consoles coming out they will be able to give a more realistic and in depth experience of ww2 similar to band of brothers or saving private ryan so i believe ww2 will make a comeback at some point. And people will like it because realistic gore & violence will be focused upon way more to show the true face of war
The Call of duty series will go on no matter if u like it or not many casual gamers get xbox 360s or ps3s just to play them but black ops 2 will probably be the same as MW3 and activision dosnt need to worry about it because everybody will buy it. when the xbox 720 comes out and there is nothing new thats when they will run in to trouble and the call of duty series will eventually die.
It's first person shooters in general, they are dying out because they are running out of ideas. Third person shooters will take over because it offers many more options of character customizations, environment interactivity and just the whole way you play the game is completely different and adds more depth than FPS. There has really yet to be a giant TPS multiplayer game, Socom was the biggest but nowhere near as big as BF and COD.
I think WaW was the most different CoD... MW3 had some new things too... But it is sort of dying. Hopefully, call of duty will add First Person Dog Fights and Tanks!
Thank god Blizzard which is apart of Actvision hasn't done this with their games. Roflmao, we would already have Warcraft 5, Starcraft 6 and Diablo 4.
I agree that one day Call of Duty will die if changes aren't made. I think that Call of Duty should go back to the basics. Make a Call of Duty that is stripped down to the very basics. Make your own weapons, get thrown into the middle of deep jungle and rely on the resources around you to survive. I think that this would be unique and pose a new and unique challenge to gameplayers.
I respect both call of duty and battlefield. but i really think that call of duty need to get some major updates eg: engine, feel, and gameplay. the next most popular will probably be black ops 2.
FACT: COD is the #7 best selling franchise of all time in gaming history. FACT: Every COD in the last 4 years has set record setting sales in not only gaming, but the entire entertainment industry FACT: More people play COD over any other game on Xbox Live according to Major Nelson's blog. FACT: LOL @ the idiots who think COD is dying.
@StyrofoamNoise - Don't expect the trend of record-sales to continue. I attend a 5A high school, and I know TONS of people who waited on the midnight release of MW3. These guys were also big fans of Black Ops, MW2, and CoD4. However, I know that 99% of these guys said MW3 will be the very last CoD they buy. If 99% of a 5A school think this way, how many people across America, and even in the world, will be thinking this way? Black Ops 2 will sell good, but next-gen, CoD's gone.
@StreightHustlin Valid point, but don't forget about all the gamers who will be turning 17 who will be old enough to buy the game alone, or all the people who will be getting a xbox/ps3 within the next year that will want the game, or all the kiddies and their buddies getting it for Christmas next year. Part of the reason why the records keep getting bigger is because there are more consumers every year. That is a statistic you cannot argue with.
@StyrofoamNoise - I'm a veteran CoD player, and I'm pretty excited for Black Ops 2, granted it'll be that, but when the PS4 and XBOX 720 comes out, I really hope they create a brand new engine with breath-taking graphics. I don't want them to run this franchise into the ground like they did Guitar Hero and Tony Hawk. Remember, Tony Hawk Pro Skater era was in the early 2000s, when X-GAMES & extreme sports were really popular. Guitar Hero 2005, when they first started the genre. Is FPS a trend?
Well maybe more futuristic/sci-fi games will be the next big thing with this years launch of Mass Effect 3, Ghost Recon:Future Soldier and Halo 4. These genre of futuristic games always seem to come back, time and time again, each different with the integration of new technology & mechanics. Hopefully this genre doesn't become generic and continues to evolve the gaming industry with new ideas and technologies. But than again it's Activision we're talking about they're just out for the quick cash
There is only so many times you can milk this cash cow before it runs dry. Personally I am tired of seeing the same game over and over when they claim it'll be next gen and have amazing features that are the fucking same since MW1. Just my 2 cents.
So what? Their gonna make COD until the sales start dropping.. thats just obvious. But from the sales of MW3 it doesn't look like its going to die anytime soon.. if I had to goes.. we probably will see MW4 and 5 (or whatever their gonna be called) before the sales start to decrease drastically..
1. Call of Duty IS dying imo, sure it's really good right now, but like you said about the "modern" themes, it'll die eventually, and I'm thinking soon. It'll probably go sci-fi, seeing as there's nothing else it could head to other than going back again, so that's my guess.
2. Fighting games is the next big gaming genre, and just recently too just because of our current gen's online capabilities. Also, fighting games has a good foundation in general to keep it fresh for every installment.
Terminator 2 has the same basic structure as The Terminator. They're both chase films with a good guy running away from a bad guy from the future, while a good guy who is also from the future tries to stop the bad guy. Fundamentally the same, as a sequel should be, but with subtle tweaks such as a de-emphasis on horror and a focus on action in T2. Both films are still outstanding. I like Half-Life and BioShock but I don't want CoD to suddenly play like them. CoD has created it's own style.
CoD is definitely NOT dying. Each game since CoD 4 (except WaW) has sold better than the last. And we are talking record-breaking, astronomical sales that are uncomparable to Tony Hawk and Guitar Hero. I find it funny when people say "it's the same game with tweaks"... That's the whole fucking point of a sequel! Same basic entertainment experience with slight differences. Why fix what clearly isn't broken? I don't love CoD, but I'm not a brainless hater either.
@KingLouis51 It's been the same game for the past 5 years. It holds back the gaming industry by not developing anything new, and you have to be the definition of insane to keep buying the same game year after year. It's still the same old thing. If it came out every few years, it'll be a much better game, fully tested and could be improved between each title. They just always feel rushed and incomplete. There are so many better quality games and developers on the market.
So I guess you are one of the uneducated people who think that because CoD comes out every year you can compare its development to Madden or FIFA. Two teams alternate on CoD, giving them two years to make one, something most yearly releases don't have. There's no difference in the dev cycle of CoD and the dev cycle of "higher-quality" games like Uncharted or Mass Effect. And what do you mean "fully-tested" -- is CoD is glitchy? I say if it ain't broke don't fix it!
and how can you say they feel "incomplete"? Besides Halo: Reach I haven't played a multiplayer shooter more with more features, modes and cherries on top than Black Ops. Also, CoD 4 has only just had its 4th birthday, it's not 5 years old as you exaggerate. I am not a CoD fanboy but I do play and enjoy them. I know they have their problems. But I also know that haters love to hate ANYTHING popular. CoD is great and year after year it gives the FANS what THEY want.
@KingLouis51 I'm just saying I believe the gaming industry and the development teams of CoD would benefit if they developed newer technology that can vastly improve the quality of their games, such as improved AI, smoothness of movement through terrain, new game engine. Rather than just using the same old things again and again making their games obsolete to what's available out there.
@KingLouis51 If they continue like this, they drive the franchise through the ground. That's my main point. They should try create something new and innovative along side their so called "formula"
cool man, i'm glad you can have a logical discussion about this topic and not be a blind hater like most people. You are definitely right, a change of engine would be great. They are still using a heavily modified Quake III engine! Isn't it crazy that the world's most popular game runs on technology that's 13 years old!? As good as CoD is, I think upgrading to something like id Tech 5 (RAGE engine) would be an incredibly smart move for Activision.
This is nothing new, and it was obvious that the franchise would sooner or later crash and burn due to over-saturation. As soon as MW2 came out, and it was pretty much the same thing with tweaks, it became clear they were going to milk this till it was dry.
Activision are just gunna use Call of duty as a cashcow until Bungie release their new IP as multiplatform next gen. Then if COD dies next gen they can move the cashcow strategy to the new Bungie IP. Mark my words.
@MichaelH9310 Because sci-fi shooters are already completely overused and a big thing :), but i would mind seeing what a call of duty would be like that setting
I think you have a point with cod dying, but I think it has a few more games. One reason is because it beat black ops in sales (maybe not total, but on it's rate it'll surpass very soon), and two most people who play arent hardcore gamers and are blinded by how much it doesnt change. I completely agree that activision is in it for the money, but I think they have a little time before they get in trouble. However I hope they either really improve the next games, and if not I hope it ends
@Mewpals I totally agree I don't want the series to go away if they can make something new and exciting again I'll play for sure, and ya they do have a few more games, I was actually surprised at treyarch and how good black ops was compared to the infinityward games, I wonder where Infinityward ward goes now that the Modern warfare story has ended. Thats why I think MW3 is the peak of COD because its the wrap up of the MW series.
Your reason is dumb, you can't compare guitar hero to CoD, because guitar hero was basicly the exact same thing. CoD hasn't been just new maps, its always a different campaign, different levels, and Treyarch's games are also very different from IW games.
@NoMoreDudes This is true, But more in the spirit of what Activison tends to do to there franchises they are similar. Think of it as a feature set, Every year Guitar hero got a little new game type or something, and this year Cod got survival mode, and last year blackops got wager matches. I mean like that. I'm always surprised at surveys of how many people haven't even played the single player. I like playing through them personally, MW3 was a nice wrap up to the MW series. Did you like it?
@nodsnake12398 Black Ops also brought theather mode, customization, the point system, contracts. Also I didn't like MW3, only good thing about it is the survival mode, but the rest is bad but it was in the hands of a crappy IW and other mediocre developers.
@NoMoreDudes I did not own Black ops, I usually like the IW games more, MW3 was more of the same, they probably didn't want to do anything too outrageous because the IW team had been so torn apart since MW2.
@NoMoreDudes Oh look another blind fanboy. Your argument is as weak as the new amount of content that gets put into the newer call of duty's.
Same graphics engine
Same weapon sounds
Same perks
The list goes on.
They even recycle buildings from old cod4 maps. These guys have all the money they need to make a brand new game and they just keep pumping out the same shit every year for kids like you that think they are getting a ''brand new game''.
@RotaryPoweredRX I wouldn't be playing CoD, if Battlefield 3 delivered what is was supposed to be, but i just got a mediocre FPS, and I wasted money upgrading my PC just to play that game. The reason I still play CoD is because its the best multiplayer FPS on the market and reviews and popularity prove it.
@NoMoreDudes What you just said is pretty much all opinion, while what I stated was factual. I will agree BF3 could've been better, but I think EA rushed them to compete with CoD. Also, CoD and BF3 are two completely different kind of fps so comparing them is pointless. At least with BF3 they didn't use the same engine from BF2 that came out in 2005..
@NoMoreDudes I agree I play COD because it is fun, but I play BF3 when I feel like being more tactical there different and good in there own ways at least to me. And don't say you wasted your money. At least you can play all the latest games at there best quality, because the consoles are such old tech now. Pc is where its at!
Call of Duty is not dying, people are so oblivious. It's been 4 years in COD4, and each game in the series since then has been record settings sales. I don't know about PS3, but COD ranks 4 out of the top 10 most played games on Xbox Live. MW3, BO, MW2 and MW1 are all in the top ten. How is this considered dying?
@StyrofoamNoise This is true, but I'm saying that from this point on it will mostlikely go down hill I honestly think that MW3 is the pinicle that cod will hit. I here more and more from people "mw3 is almost the same as mw3" People played Guitar hero everywhere and they sold a ton and the decline of the music games only took like 6 months or so to die out completely. Its just what I think is coming in the near future.
@nodsnake12398 You can't predict the future, and you have no evidence to back that theory up. Guitar hero is completely different from a game that everyone plays. It's a social experience, quick and easy to jump into, easy to pick up and do well in. That's why it's so popular. It won't die. Guitar hero didn't have those 3 key elements.
@StyrofoamNoise The only reason CoD ranks so high is because people don't buy it for real reasons they just get it because their friends get it, which eventually leads to them having no friends. Also, a lot of children get these games nowadays because they get their parents to buy it for them for Christmas or their birthday so that boosts the sales A LLOOOOT. If IW enforced the 18+ rule their sales would be fucking terrible. Hint for finding CoDkids, look for XxX, Sc0p3z, or 420 in their name.
@jjboy157 LOL your entire argument is based around "what if". Well guess what, you are living in a dream. The kids will never stop getting these games because parents buy them and when people buy it just because their friends do is the most insane response ever, you have no data to back that claim up with. You basically spewed a bunch of bullshit that is irrelevant. Sales don't lie, online statistics don't lie. Why can't you see this? LOL stop being in denial. COD Won't die.
@StyrofoamNoise No data? I'd rather not follow people around quizzing them on some meh game. I have it, and it's a fun game, I'll give them that. I'm in denial? This coming from you, of course, who is arguing to everybody in the comments with a different opinion on CoD. This is coming up to being the ninth game in the fucking series, and it's going to end up like Final Fantasy because the developers don't care about their customers, they care about the cash their (actual)customers parents pay.
@jjboy157 Data is not following people around. Obviously you don't have a real job or otherwise you would understand that in the business world people use FACTS AND DATA to support statements. You say COD is dying, based off what? Your opinion? LMAO I said COD is just reaching it's prime. Based off what? 1)Sales 2)4/10 top games played on Xbox Live 3)And upwards trend in sales in every single year of release. 4)#7 best selling franchise of all time in gaming. Nuff said.
@StyrofoamNoise Yet again, flagging your other comments for spam. I know that data is not following people around it's just a figure of speech. Clearly you can't judge how many people enjoy the game by how many sales the game achieves. Yes, it does have a major following. Also, I never said that CoD is dying, might want to check your "facts" again.
@skmanga There are a ton these days seeing uncharted 3, the new tomb raider, and assassins creeds popularity. I think Action/Adventure games are on a rise. Maybe shooters will benefit from a break and then break back in when they are forced to innovate.
hey just to let u know, call of duty was out during the last gen. CoD4 wasn't the first call of duty. call of duty came out for the pc in 2003 then had some console spin offs.
@TheCrayonMan529 oh trust me I know, I loved Cod 1, the expansion united offensive, but loved cod 2 on PC. I was talking about when COD broke into the main stream. Even though COD 2 was very popular you have to admit it was 4 that brought it to everyone and there mother right?
More than anything in the industry I want spy FPSs to come back like Perfect Dark. Give me meaningful objectives that require more thought than "go to the nav point, press the do-everything button, and repeat" to complete, optional stealth, no annoying teammates that shout more than they shoot, no grenade indicator coming up every few seconds, and no infinitely respawning enemies with bottomless magazines and x-ray vision. Deus Ex is the closest thing to resemble that this generation.
hmmm.... I was thinking about subscribing, then I found out I already did subscribe to you. So now i'm really sad because I can't subscribe to you anymore :(
As for where it's headed, who knows, maybe Space Modenwarfare?
2.Third and First person shooter occurring simultaneously,oh god the paradoxes!!!!.I kid,I kid.If this year is any indication I think action adventure will take the crown next.
Also I featured your video my channel, hopefully get more people aware of this video and your channel.I also posted this video on the forums of Gametrailers.
@dadman1988 OMG Paradox lol That would be cool maybe a return of Battlefield 2142...3? lol. Hey thanks so much for featuring the video, and posting it, really appreciate it.
I 100% agree I mean I find cod pretty fun but I like something like Team Fortress 2 way better because its different there arn't just machine guns but there are bow and arrows, Explosive launchers, and even guys that can turn invisable cod does not have variaty like that and this is a basic example all fpses are like this there all different
1.At this point I think the formula has already become stale,I've heard even fans say that problems from the MP from MW1 and 2 are still in MW3.I think Infinity Ward knows this and also knows that COD is their bread and butter,it's where they make most of the money and they won't allow it to be run into the ground because if they do what do they have left?Sure they published Star Craft II but PC gaming has been on the decline and the next SC probably won't be out for a long time.
I don't think Call Of Duty will ever die. Every year it is just progressing more and more.
Activision knows what they are doing. However i do think that BF is gonna take over COD in the coming years. Sci-fi games? If your talking about Bioshock then yes , maybe after they release 2 more Bioshock games.
i think fighting games will take over, before games as Street Fighter 4, Marvel Versus Capcom 3, and some of the newer Mortal Kombats. you would have to go to your local arcade to play them and play competitively (because lets face it, the CPU is annoying to go against) now that you can play over the internet fighting game communities from all over are no longer isolated.
@drobbiemw3 While I normally disagree with the whole "every COD game is exactly the same as the old one with new maps" since that shit has been going on since COD4 and the game has evolved significantly with each iteration since then I have to disagree with this statement. MW3 was the first time I played a COD game and thought "Yeah this is pretty much just MW2." Looks and feels exactly the same. Not that that is a bad thing.
Skyrim is the shizz. I reckon Bethesda are the best company. Cod is dying. Most of my friends list play that. Saints row is getting big. But I still play like skate 2,3... I think Bethesda is boss. Fallout 3 = best game ever made. New Vegas = 2nd best. I did like lionhead's fable 3. Yeah....
I think with the new consoles coming out they will be able to give a more realistic and in depth experience of ww2 similar to band of brothers or saving private ryan so i believe ww2 will make a comeback at some point. And people will like it because realistic gore & violence will be focused upon way more to show the true face of war

"is it going to be sci-fi shooters who are going to be the new big thing".... O_O (not sure if serious)

@MichaelH9310 ???? I dont understand.

Mewpals 1 month ago
@Mewpals I totally agree I don't want the series to go away if they can make something new and exciting again I'll play for sure, and ya they do have a few more games, I was actually surprised at treyarch and how good black ops was compared to the infinityward games, I wonder where Infinityward ward goes now that the Modern warfare story has ended. Thats why I think MW3 is the peak of COD because its the wrap up of the MW series.
nodsnake12398 1 month ago
Your reason is dumb, you can't compare guitar hero to CoD, because guitar hero was basicly the exact same thing. CoD hasn't been just new maps, its always a different campaign, different levels, and Treyarch's games are also very different from IW games.
NoMoreDudes 1 month ago
@NoMoreDudes This is true, But more in the spirit of what Activison tends to do to there franchises they are similar. Think of it as a feature set, Every year Guitar hero got a little new game type or something, and this year Cod got survival mode, and last year blackops got wager matches. I mean like that. I'm always surprised at surveys of how many people haven't even played the single player. I like playing through them personally, MW3 was a nice wrap up to the MW series. Did you like it?
nodsnake12398 1 month ago
@nodsnake12398 Black Ops also brought theather mode, customization, the point system, contracts. Also I didn't like MW3, only good thing about it is the survival mode, but the rest is bad but it was in the hands of a crappy IW and other mediocre developers.
NoMoreDudes 1 month ago
@NoMoreDudes I did not own Black ops, I usually like the IW games more, MW3 was more of the same, they probably didn't want to do anything too outrageous because the IW team had been so torn apart since MW2.
nodsnake12398 1 month ago
@NoMoreDudes Oh look another blind fanboy. Your argument is as weak as the new amount of content that gets put into the newer call of duty's.
Same graphics engine
Same weapon sounds
Same perks
The list goes on.
They even recycle buildings from old cod4 maps. These guys have all the money they need to make a brand new game and they just keep pumping out the same shit every year for kids like you that think they are getting a ''brand new game''.
RotaryPoweredRX 1 month ago
@RotaryPoweredRX I wouldn't be playing CoD, if Battlefield 3 delivered what is was supposed to be, but i just got a mediocre FPS, and I wasted money upgrading my PC just to play that game. The reason I still play CoD is because its the best multiplayer FPS on the market and reviews and popularity prove it.
NoMoreDudes 1 month ago
@NoMoreDudes What you just said is pretty much all opinion, while what I stated was factual. I will agree BF3 could've been better, but I think EA rushed them to compete with CoD. Also, CoD and BF3 are two completely different kind of fps so comparing them is pointless. At least with BF3 they didn't use the same engine from BF2 that came out in 2005..
RotaryPoweredRX 1 month ago
@NoMoreDudes I agree I play COD because it is fun, but I play BF3 when I feel like being more tactical there different and good in there own ways at least to me. And don't say you wasted your money. At least you can play all the latest games at there best quality, because the consoles are such old tech now. Pc is where its at!
nodsnake12398 1 month ago
Call of Duty is not dying, people are so oblivious. It's been 4 years in COD4, and each game in the series since then has been record settings sales. I don't know about PS3, but COD ranks 4 out of the top 10 most played games on Xbox Live. MW3, BO, MW2 and MW1 are all in the top ten. How is this considered dying?
StyrofoamNoise 1 month ago
@StyrofoamNoise This is true, but I'm saying that from this point on it will mostlikely go down hill I honestly think that MW3 is the pinicle that cod will hit. I here more and more from people "mw3 is almost the same as mw3" People played Guitar hero everywhere and they sold a ton and the decline of the music games only took like 6 months or so to die out completely. Its just what I think is coming in the near future.
nodsnake12398 1 month ago
@nodsnake12398 You can't predict the future, and you have no evidence to back that theory up. Guitar hero is completely different from a game that everyone plays. It's a social experience, quick and easy to jump into, easy to pick up and do well in. That's why it's so popular. It won't die. Guitar hero didn't have those 3 key elements.
StyrofoamNoise 1 month ago
@StyrofoamNoise The only reason CoD ranks so high is because people don't buy it for real reasons they just get it because their friends get it, which eventually leads to them having no friends. Also, a lot of children get these games nowadays because they get their parents to buy it for them for Christmas or their birthday so that boosts the sales A LLOOOOT. If IW enforced the 18+ rule their sales would be fucking terrible. Hint for finding CoDkids, look for XxX, Sc0p3z, or 420 in their name.
jjboy157 1 month ago
@jjboy157 LOL your entire argument is based around "what if". Well guess what, you are living in a dream. The kids will never stop getting these games because parents buy them and when people buy it just because their friends do is the most insane response ever, you have no data to back that claim up with. You basically spewed a bunch of bullshit that is irrelevant. Sales don't lie, online statistics don't lie. Why can't you see this? LOL stop being in denial. COD Won't die.
StyrofoamNoise 1 month ago
@StyrofoamNoise No data? I'd rather not follow people around quizzing them on some meh game. I have it, and it's a fun game, I'll give them that. I'm in denial? This coming from you, of course, who is arguing to everybody in the comments with a different opinion on CoD. This is coming up to being the ninth game in the fucking series, and it's going to end up like Final Fantasy because the developers don't care about their customers, they care about the cash their (actual)customers parents pay.
jjboy157 1 month ago
@jjboy157 Data is not following people around. Obviously you don't have a real job or otherwise you would understand that in the business world people use FACTS AND DATA to support statements. You say COD is dying, based off what? Your opinion? LMAO I said COD is just reaching it's prime. Based off what? 1)Sales 2)4/10 top games played on Xbox Live 3)And upwards trend in sales in every single year of release. 4)#7 best selling franchise of all time in gaming. Nuff said.
StyrofoamNoise 1 month ago
@StyrofoamNoise Yet again, flagging your other comments for spam. I know that data is not following people around it's just a figure of speech. Clearly you can't judge how many people enjoy the game by how many sales the game achieves. Yes, it does have a major following. Also, I never said that CoD is dying, might want to check your "facts" again.

@skmanga There are a ton these days seeing uncharted 3, the new tomb raider, and assassins creeds popularity. I think Action/Adventure games are on a rise. Maybe shooters will benefit from a break and then break back in when they are forced to innovate.
nodsnake12398 1 month ago
@nodsnake12398 i meant first person shooters.
The likes of call of duty.
Its exactly whats wrong with games these days...and hurt gaming as a whole...
skmanga 1 month ago
hey just to let u know, call of duty was out during the last gen.

Even though COD 2 was very popular you have to admit it was 4 that brought it to everyone and there mother right?
nodsnake12398 1 month ago
More than anything in the industry I want spy FPSs to come back like Perfect Dark. Give me meaningful objectives that require more thought than "go to the nav point, press the do-everything button, and repeat" to complete, optional stealth, no annoying teammates that shout more than they shoot, no grenade indicator coming up every few seconds, and no infinitely respawning enemies with bottomless magazines and x-ray vision. Deus Ex is the closest thing to resemble that this generation.

The212b 1 month ago

It is not dying. people like it the way it is. mw3 plays and feels differentto all the others. if you was a fan then you would know that.
drobbiemw3 1 month ago
@drobbiemw3 It uses the same fucking engin as mw2 it is just like mw2 with new maps and guns and perks then bam its a new game
The212b 1 month ago

Yeah....
