I have been enjoying the Aussie comedians on youtube, but the Aussie comments are brutal. I understood everything except 'run up', but even within the U.S. we have different terms depending on the region. Do any of you know any Americans personally, or do you use media outlets to form generalizations? I judge based on interaction. That being said, I hope Adam Hills and Wil Anderson do some U.S. shows soon.
@maysfestival112 He means that if he takes off his foot (and leaves the stump bare) and slathers it with tomato sauce (which looks like blood) people will think a shark bit his foot off, and people are gonna be freaked out and leave the beach.
I didn't get the tomato sauce joke because of the "you'll have the beach to yourself" part. See, Americans would tend to run to the aid of shark attack victims. Do Aussies just run away?
He means have the beach to yourself as like. If you're in a concert and you're amazing, then the stage is yours. As in you own it. That's what it means.
@AshehKitteh Preeeeeety sure the joke was not actually about the tomato sauce. It was the fact that he could take off the leg, spray some tomato sauce around the place - instant shark attack scene - everybody runs for the hills and thus, he has the beach to himself.
See? Basically just proves what was said about Americans not getting the joke. Our Aussie humor is like that :D
@klcobalt I got the joke. Its just that we have a tomato sauce too, even though it is not ketchup. Im saying because both are red like blood, Americans will still get the joke.
Hey, Adam can have a job here in America any time. But no, we're not all as dense as other countries think. Hell I had to explain to a Welsh friend, that Canada isn't ours and that his visa wasn't good there. "Friends" were going to take him over the border and let him work it out with immigration on his own. Sometimes dense is imported.
Yeah....... Like the other Americans, I don't get why we don't understand the tomato sauce thing... I talked to an Aussie friend about it and simply said "shark" and she explained everything to me... I'm like "er, yeah. I kind of got that........" lol
@pacovl46 we don't, its the american accent that other english speakers hate. to us the american accent sounds as bad the Austrian accent sounds to german speakers
Don't take me for some loser, sissy or country-ist - but i think i laugh more with Australian Comedians than American ones xD cause well when i listen to comedians such as Dave Cook (he's awesome too :D) all their humor *most* kinda revolves around smutty jokes or nuudy ones and it's nice to just get away from that (for a while o_o) Comedy Rocks!
thank you very much, but this i understood but the rest is not easy for me. adam metions that he could have a knife and what says the security guy then?
i love his humour! i am from germany and the problem is that i'm not able to understand what the security guy at the airport say. just understood: "jesus, go through mate...it could be a knife...no go through buddy...???" can someone please help me with that. i think my english is good, and i'm used to different accents (i love the aussie-accent) but its not perfect. thanks.
@Nadja2303 do you mean what the start of the joke is? if so..
the security guy thought that he was hiding something when he went through security and the buzzer went off. but he didnt know he had a fake foot. when he found out he said "just go through"
i hope this helps... sorry if it doesnt make much sense :)
@Nadja2303 "No just go buddy! I don't care if the plane goes down, I don't want to offend a spastic! Just go, for god's sake..." If you don't know, "spastic" is a word used for disabled people, and can be pretty offensive >___< Hope that helps~
Adam Hills is a legend :3 For those that still don't get it, we say "tomato sauce" but American's say "ketchup". He was saying that he's hide his artificial leg, put tomato sauce on his stump, pretend there was a shark attack, have the beach cleared and only he would be here. Also, American's say "sidewalk", but we say "footpath".
@XCILE625 Oh! His favourite hand sign being used in the safety demonstration!XD That's be terrible to see if you were deaf! I think his languages skit is funny too.
@XCILE625 Ehe, yeah. That would probably be my response though!XD Some people really ask some dumb things. There are some really good skits about his leg. Apart from that, I love the end of Characterful too where he's talking about what surrealism truly is. People so do that though. And when he came out on Spicks and Specks in his Rocky Horror outfit, I almost spat out my drink!X3
@amber14hikari Weird thing is about his joke is that it still works for Americans who don't know the term "tomato sauce" since what we consider tomato sauce would still look like blood. Funny he picked that term when there are 1,000 other Aussie terms that we Americans don't understand!
@Tracymmo Maybe so, I don't know. It could even be less the tomato sauce and more the fact that it's an Aussie humoured shark attack joke. I did notice that some Americans that posted here didn't understand it at all though. Oh, I don't know about 1000!XD
@Tracymmo You're right that we don't think of sharks nearly as much, at least not since "Jaws" was popular! Few of us live near the beach as it is. I have had plenty of confused discussions with Aussie friends in Adelaide and while living in Europe, which are even funnier when there's someone English present and we all have different words for the same thing. Some I words I've had to have defined: dag, chunder, lino, bikie, Pom, sickie, milk bar, esky, bikkie, pressie, jumper, fairy floss.
Hilarious! But what' s all that "Comedy Tour UNPLUGGED" business? How can you unplug a stand up comedian except by taking his mic off him? He was using a mic anyway!
@autriii lol I thought the same thing. I doubted myself because a large amount of Americans say Tomato sauce as much as Ketchup so the joke made total sense until he said the bit about Americans.
No offence to americans but this is definately what makes the brits and aussies different, the ability to laugh at our own misfortune and take the piss out of it. Maybe its a way of dealing with problems but we always seem to be able to take the piss out of everything and not get offended :P

Im not biased, I love british, canadian, and now Australian stand up just as much. but that comment had little knowledge behind it
@supermario0192837465 its ok, but i think i didnt word it right too, something Reg D Hunter (i dont know if you've heard of him he is a black american comedian - has done lots of work in Britain) said was that English in general just take the piss out of everything and americans dont. You should watch him in 'Reginald D Hunter - Live at the Apollo' i think you'll get what i mean ;)
@plonjcc tomato sauce...otherwise known as blood...he takes his leg off and on austraillian beaches there's sharks everywhere...so take ya foot off...and it looks like a shark just bit your leg off
my m8 has a fake arm and at this place where we worked about a year ago had a six inch rule inplace to try and stop office romaces (like it worked not) so one day his hot shot came down to his floor and started to boss ppl about like he was a god and he started on my m8 and he pushed him to far so as not to brake the 6 inch rule he took his arm off and hit the other man and the boss (who hated the bossy one) luath when he got told the story and said good thinking on the arm :) lol
"yer mum and dad cut yer ear off as punishment?!" haha sounds like something i'd say haha (yes i am northern english too, well yorkshire but y'know haha)
Anyone who can't figure out tomato sauce is ketchup is seriously weird... however some people do call spaghetti sauce tomato sauce... still if u dont get that joke then u have some problems
@eilrahc101 if i had an artificial foot im not sure if im secure enough to make jokes about it, inviting others to laugh about it n make jokes about it. Although its the right thing to do and the healthiest way to deal with it.
How'd you lose it?

if anyone's wondering how he lost the leg he was born with it. And tbh I do seriously believe it's produced some of his funniest jokes.

Dear Australia,
Can you please ship Adam back to the UK to do some more Mock the Week please?
Thanks Oz,

Proof that Adam is hilarious:
7 people were laughing so hard that they lost control of their mouse and clicked "dislike" instead of "like"

my m8 has a fake arm and at this place where we worked about a year ago had a six inch rule inplace to try and stop office romaces (like it worked not) so one day his hot shot came down to his floor and started to boss ppl about like he was a god and he started on my m8 and he pushed him to far so as not to brake the 6 inch rule he took his arm off and hit the other man and the boss (who hated the bossy one) luath when he got told the story and said good thinking on the arm :) lol

waw an artificial foot, he's brave to talk about it like that
zeldazoga 1 year ago
@zeldazoga Why?
eilrahc101 1 year ago
@eilrahc101 if i had an artificial foot im not sure if im secure enough to make jokes about it, inviting others to laugh about it n make jokes about it. Although its the right thing to do and the healthiest way to deal with it.
