dannylau, I have recently checked the cia factbook again. Singapore's life expectancy is 4th in the world, hong kong was recently ranked 6th. This is quite a trivial matter but Singapore does in fact have a higher life expectancy and overall quality of life.
I have updated numbers from a credible report recently issued, Singapore has the world's 4th highest, and certainly higher than HK. This is interesting, I have to find out which report is more credible :).
More expensive does not mean higher standard of living. Moscow is one of the most expensive cities to live in the world yet is not even close to having the highest living standard. And vancouver for example, has the highest standard of living for any major city yet does not have the highest living costs. Standard of living involves life expectancy, pollution, public conveinences, etc.
Regarding unis, I think that it comes down to personal choice. The env, the professors, the type of ppl, etc. Especially with the schools coming so close together in ranking it really does seem overly trivial to me. I'm aware of the QS rankings, and maybe when scoring off a list of black and white criteria then sure, but both are great in their own respects. :)
I've noticed that also. It must be recent because for a while Singapore was ahead. But, I dont think that is first in Asia because Japan has always been consistently the top in GDP per capita (i'll have to check again.) Still, Singapore and Japan both have significantly higher standards of living than Hong Kong which really matters in the end.
GDP ASIA rank (1th= Japan 2th= China 3th- south korea 4th- india 5th- Taiwan ASOA according GDP 1th= japan ( 35,000$) 2th= Singapore ( 24,300$) 3th= Hongkong ( 22,000$) 4th=South Korea ( 20,800$) 5th= Taiwan ( 16,000$)
Although Hong Kong has a higher GDP per capita than singapore, we have a higher standard of living. I am a Singaporean and American; dual-citizenship. I loove Singapore, great vid! We were ranked the world's most globalized nation.
You may have more rights regarding speech and such, but the issues on this are way overblown. Also, I believe that Singapore society is more cosmopolitan and advanced in that regard although HK is very good in terms of creativity. We also are an international finance centre of high importance and both are cities have been ranked in the top 5. Hong Kong and Singapore economies are also two of the world's strongest economies and we both rank well in economic freedom.
Hello. The gums in Singapore are banned because they want to have a clean city. And its efficient. There is no classification for the country. Japan is a big country. Hong Kong and Singapore are very similar (economically speaking). Taiwan and south Korea are both technologically advanced.

No one in the world really gives a rats ass about Taiwan, as reflected by the extremely low tourism rates to that stinky turdland.

Japanese ladies are the most promiscuous in Asia, and this is the most important standard of living we men are looking for.
