I probably stand alone on this, but I think these ads are highly ineffective. Watching it now, I feel ill, and I don't ever want to see it again. I'd probably switch channels if this came on TV. It's important to learn road rules, indeed with the way our roads are it's as important as ever, but shock value in this case only breeds a fear of driving rather than educating people on consideration of other people on the road.
After he clips the bus, the car looks like it's turning left (AWAY from the road) but he has his right indicator on and he hits the pole in the opposite side. Weird.
@Shistydog Because individual states or whatever have their own road safety agencies, nothing stopping them importing them though. Countries have shared road safety campaigns before.
i dont agree with your description. most tac ads are quite different, showing the accident with many different factors, sometimes without a voice of reason. sooo yea
That was really dumb of that man, not only did he speed and his friend told him to slow, he did not think that he would lose traction on the switch from pavement to gravel.
@wuzzlevideos agreed there but they do get one point across in the gore of it for example the texting while driveing advert when they caused a big scale crash and only a few survived and the saddest for me was the baby dying though it was made in th UK but it was enough to get the point across
It's not necessarily that they're not allowed in the US, but more like no one wants to touch it with a ten-foot pole to avoid the complaints from sensitive souls and parents wanting to protect their precious snowflakes from anything upsetting, therefore cutting the ad's run short and being a waste of money. Our Puritanical roots still linger...
^.^ yeah, but where Americans have soft ads for speeding, and dramatizations for Highschool classes, Australia uses dramatization for ads, and real footage for classes.
did i say they were realistic mate? no that is what will happen. beleive me. why would these adds be dramatic? they are out to show and prove a point. you dumb arse. ahaha
yes, your right, but did you think that maybe the accident would've been far less serious if he wasnt speeding? or perhaps a greater chance of avoiding it?
Yes, you've hit the nail on the head. And that's one thing that some people STILL don't seem to understand. The faster your velocity, the more momentum you have, the further you'll go.
@wuzzlevideos I think this ad is more than just being about how speeding causes accidents, but rather it's about how an attitude of recklessness can be just as dangerous.
while that may be true im saying that this kind of accident can occur without speeding. When people make the decision not to speed based on an ad like this they will assume that just because they are under the speed limit they wont have an accident.
These ads lure drivers into a false sense of security and that is what I am annoyed about, at least this one didnt have as much blood and gore which is of course what we love to see when we're watching tv; anti speeding campaigns and antismoking ads
you're still not getting it mate, sure an accident can happen if he was below the speed limit, but the point is, it wouldn't be nearly as serious as if he was speeding.
that is my point, the RTA have not portrayed that idea in this ad. You get it as do I but to some who see this ad they are led to believe that as long as they do not go above the speed limit they will be fine, failing to mention the fact that no matter what speed you are travelling, overtaking another vehicle when your vision is obstructed is just pure idiocy.
i dont care what the RTA was TRYING to say, I care about what they DID say
Honestly if they would just cut down all the trees and relocate poles near the roads in Australia it would probably make things much safer for bad drivers.
Ooh, opps, sorry, he WAS going 100 km/hr. I was mentally converting it to MPH, thats where that 60 in my last posting came from. Still, DON'T go under 115 km/hr or 120 though here!...
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
At 60 km/hr? 60 KM/HR?? You folks are learning how to drive like grampers! I'm over here in the States, and you'd better not ever come over here and gramp along at 60 on our interstates - or else you WILL get your ass plowed! By the way, my favorite speed on the interstate is around 130 km/hr. Come here and make damn sure you aren't going under 115 or 120 or else here comes 'the plow' for your ass!
And there's "only" like 10 times the population here as there is in Australia. So ten times the accidents. And it's not like we invented every thing except Paul Hogan too huh? Derrrr
well that wats happens when u speed. all the wakers out there that thing thhy can drive well h8 to say this most of u cant u mite be a gd driver but something like that can happen.
Geez, scared the crap out of me, the crash sound was horrific. Pity these ads are not still on air. They are supposed to be graphic, no accident is pretty, especially at these speeds.
this frightened the fuck out of me!!! it is EXACTLY what happened to me when i was 18 and my friend was driving on a gravel road... another car came the other way and the moved out the way then her brakes locked and we lost control almost side swiped a pole and hit 2 trees.... we walked away
I remember this ad from when I was a teenager and all of the other TAC ads and they have always stuck with me. This was a very effective campaign and should be used Australia wide, however WA and NSW said they couldn't use these ads because they were too graphic. Please tell me about a car accident that isn't graphic!
He should've listened to her, slow the hell down!

Not really true. We've had ads LIKE this, sometimes gory, sometimes shocking, but these days they don't do them because they aren't as effective.

^.^ yeah, but where Americans have soft ads for speeding, and dramatizations for Highschool classes, Australia uses dramatization for ads, and real footage for classes.

The US uses real footage films for driver's ed classes. Really old ones, but still gruesome. Look up "Signal 30" or "Highways of Agony".
electrogeek77 2 years ago
aahhh alot of these adds arent dramatised buddy.
redhardnuts 2 years ago
LOL! you're suggesting they're real footage?
Sorry, but thats just not so. They are scripted, planned and produced.

Not the dumbarse here, mate, I'm the one who knows the definition of dramatization.
Treemeadow 2 years ago
sorry real*
redhardnuts 2 years ago
Despite the fact they're recognisable actors and the use of cinematography is apparent.
Are you confusing "dramatization" with "melodrama"? I'm not saying they aren't based on real stories.
Do you know what dramatization means? It means a depiction. It depicts a real event, but the actual thing they filmed is not real, its acting.
