When I was little I was so scared of the weasels, and I was in awe of Badger, how he could belt them any way he liked, take them all on, and they were scared of him. (in the series and in this movie), I always felt safe when Badger was around.

The point is that Mole has made the weasels on edge and deploy their forces to the outer walls. When they attack from the inside, they scare those on outside away and make it seem as if their few really are hundreds.

Well before Mole came back they were looking at the perimeter and there were a lot of guards on the outside.... so if they are attacking from the inside using the secret passage to by pass the guards... means less for them to deal with.

@sketchy2 Mole scared the weasels so they would increase the security. They were attacking from the INSIDE, so with the larger amount of security, less weasels for THEM to deal with.
