  • thannks x 1.00000000000000

  • I've never been good at identifying people but this dude looks like Dave Tate...is that who this is? If it is...wow, how long ago was this?

  • @trainerman1 It's JM Blakely, the guy the exercise is named after.

  • the JM press is a pressing movement, skullcrushers A.K.A the french curl is an extension exercise. you can handle more weight with the JM press than you would with skullcrushers.

  • I started weightlifting back in the late 70's & early 80's what you are describing here has been referred to as a French curl.

And has existed in this form since at least the early 1900's this is nothing new

to weight lifting this is just rediscovering the past.... and putting your name on it

  • Where is JM now? does he still compete?

  • what would be the best tri exercise? the JM or the Skull crusher

  • I'm an "old-school" RAW presser & I still learned an INCREDIBLE amount from JM's video. (I bought this video many, many years ago myself!) COOL!!

  • this is really interesting. i think i'll give these a go. think i'll forget putting some serious weight on though until i get the form 100%

  • ...

  • ...

  • This dude is thick

  • it looks different because the wrists are closer together and the palms are up, fingers curled around the bar. They do look very similar I do agree though.

  • How is this different than "skull crusher" aka french press?

  • You bring the bar to your face or neck instead of your forehead. That's it. That's the only difference.

  • What song is that? 00:23

  • my god! this is a triceps killer!!

  • what i did was i think a less extreme version of this. basically i narrowed my grip from a normal bench, my elbows did go down so there was some shoulder involvement, but i made sure my elbows were in front of the bar, if only by a bot. i really felt my tris workin and good handle heavy weight. i look at it in terms of mechanics, as soon as the bar is directly above the bicep rather than eblow, the tricep has to work a lot harder. it might work

  • awesome movemet. shot putters should really bang on these.

  • thx 4 the vid

  • who the music in this this video its great

  • Excellent video! Thanks!

  • jm press has always been one of my faves

  • Yes, with perfect form as described loads are much lighter than when the form is varied by letting the elbows drop some. It's really good to train both ways IMO.

  • thank you for the video! but i have a question: in this exercise, as i see, a person really cant use a lot of weight, yes?

gonna try it my next workout ;)

  • EXCELLENT instruction from the man himself.

  • Thanks for putting this up. Been doing these a bit lately but struggling to find the right form. It isn't covered in as much detail on the westside bench dvd.

  • Wow... did these yesterday as part of my upper body strength w/o (after 2 board press). I could only do sets of 6 at the BAR and sets of 3 at 55 lbs and my 1RM in the bench press is 175 (60 kg female). Sad. definitely working on form... elbows to ceiling hard to maintain throughout the set.

  • This is a difficult movement to do properly, especially at first and with heavier loads. For now focus of maintaining technique and worry about loads later. I would say you are fine starting w/ the bar. Nothing wrong with that.

  • Recommended %age bench press 1RM for this exercise and ideal rep ranges? Can you max this (1-3?) or is it more assistance in higher relative strength ranges (5-7?)

  • generally its like heavy 4 sets of 5 range but whatever works best for you

  • I tried this exercise for the first time today also, and you really feel it around your elbows and triceps, and yes it does feel a little bit smoother with some weight on the bar. I recommend anyone to give it a shot.

  • I recomend this one as wel!

I've designed a very similar exercise myself.

  • Just did these for the first time today. HUGE pump in the tries
