hi man. brilliant design and work. i have an idea i want to try..id like to know what you think though ok..
i want to buy a cheap midi keyboard and solder the transducers to the keys(internally) that are assigned to my midi drums (sr16)...so that they can be touch sensitive....
by way of a serial lead out of the keyboard to the transducers (pads)...
do you think this would work ok....i trigger my drums from the keys at the moment
and they are fine, but i want to build an actual kit to hit..rob
Hi, my name is Paul. I really like this setup, have you sold these?
I have a few simple ideas that could use your skills if you'd be interested. I'd be willing to pay you to make a few of these products. Let me know, thanks..
sir, how did you convert the signal into a sound? are you using a sound module? if you create your own sound module (sound bank) how did you convert it to MIDI...
Haha. Great set, and very clean work. I think it's hilarious how you have the organ built in. Did you put the organ in there because you didn't use it anymore?
what the hell is this shit??????????? I dont know for you people but i do love homemade things but a wood made electronic drum thingy... im not sure the feeling must be damn weird no????? Its like hitting a wall with drumsticks....
you mean fake as in.. its not really an acoustic drum set? because other than that I don't know what you're talking about. I can see from the video there is indeed a DIY electronic drum set there.. Its not a figment of his imagination.
Fantastic project. I'm impressed. I wander if you could use a can with stretched fabric, instead of rubber pads. It could give better feedback. V-Drums from Roland feel pretty nice...
Very nice work. I have constructed a smaller, but similar kit to yours. Is your piezo mounted between to pieces of wood? It appears there is a smaller piece of wood on the bottom side of the top piece. Is this correct?
hello Dror,i love the diy kit.would it be possable to send my the dimentions and what kind of pvc joints you used to construct the rack? thank you verry much
Hello Dror, I loved you drumkit. Very well done! I´m trying to build one pretty much like yours. I just have a few questions about the electronics. Which processor are you using and what type on A/D converters?? If you have any schematics or something, I would really appreciate. I´m an electrical eng. myself, so any iformation you could send me can be very helpful. Thank you, Marcello
Actually I found something called Megadrum wich is a page that gives you the schematics of a 32 input drum controler base on the Atmega processor. Google it, and there should be most of the information you need
I get all the PVC pipes in big construction store, but due to that i am from ISRAEL i can onlly advise you to serch in US at HOME DEPOT or stors like this that sell construction parts.
Much better kit is to take a Remo practice pad. Between the molded plastic body and the head put a cheap radio shack piezo transducer and mount it on a small metal plate the size and thickness of a coffee can top.Put that in between the head and the pad body. Then just wire it up and your good to go. Just as good as any $200 mesh head and the touch sensitivity is GREAT. Feels real, sounds real and is dirt cheap. Easy to mount since the Remo comes with standard mounting equip.
The piezo sensor is glue at the inner side of the wood plate at the center on small rubber piece ( in order to lower hard hits on the sensor), the yellow fome that you see is only to cover the sensor from dust,
Ok, so if I understand correctly, the piezo sensor is not glued "sandwitched" between the wood and the rubber that you hit on right? Starting from the rubber surface you hit on with the drum sticks it is, (1) the rubber pad you hit on, then (2) the wood plate, then (3) the piezo sensor glued to center on back of wood plate, then small piece of foam behind the piezo to protect it from dust, correct? Thanks for all the help Dror :) I can't believe you even built the midi box too! amazing!
Dror--I agree---building drums in this fashion is good for the soul. You have done and excellent job, and have inspired me to begin my first completely DIY kit. I have two commercial drum modules, and some wood in my garage. Thank you!
Decision to build your first DIY kit, you Will see that you enjoy each moment and at last to play on it, If you will need some quetions i will try to help,
Dror, can you email me in private, I'm so thrilled to have seen your video and have many questions since I'm new at this and want to make my own electronic drums. I have already ordered the piezoelectric sensors and would like some advice from you like did you glue the sensors to the wood plank or the rubber? Thanks, Gracindo
The price of basic drum kit alon WITHOUT - AMP and SPEAKERs system all the spcial things and upgrades that incloude in this KIT will cost more then all the parts that i have,
If you pay attantion to my tutorial you will notice that i use 22 CHs and i have more drums and sounds then a basic drum kit.
But the main thing in building this kit is the great fun of new design, upgrades, get out of the box with new idias, and for the soul.
here in monterrey mexico is very difficult get it, please show how install them, one question more.. could connect two piezos in one line, (two drums to same input to midi control unit) thanks again.
I understand that you meen to the MIDI control unit,
Yes i build it, i hade this spcial ABS box at my home and its size was perfect for this project, i design the front aluminume panel for all the trimers / LEDs / Display,,
i saperat the analog input electronic board from the Digital board in order to save lot of wires to the trimers, in this case as you see all the trimers are on the analog board,

@mragw As far as I can see, Dror uses eDrum Midi Trigger
(edrum.info)
which is a bit outdated. I would recommend Megadrum.
(megadrum.info)
which is a DIY project with great features and it is updated in a regular basis. You can see me using it here
