When I would visit my grandpa he would play this record. We would sit on the front porch and he would hold my hand and we would listen to it. I miss you Grandpa and I love you. I miss you Honey, and I'm being good.
In my opinion many people are missing the point of this song. I think the wife committed suicide. I think the husband treated her like a cute, adorable child but didn't understand the pain she was feeling deep down. He speaks of this in a very ironic way; basically making fun of himself for not seeing the signs and recognizing that there was something much more serious beneath the silly "sometimes dumb, sometimes smart" girl. These thoughts were delusions, and he regrets being so blind.
@jepsl93 No I don't think so...that would be too cruel....I think she was sick and she knew it but was afraid to tell him. He even came home unexpectedly and caught her crying needlessly in the middle of the day because she knew she was dying. It is such a sad song but your perception is much more than sad. It is too unrealistic. She was not suicidal. She was young at heart. She cared for twigs yet to be trees Se loved sad and silly late late shows. And Angels don' t come for suicide victims.
I think you don't know the differance between siplistic and bad. A four chord song is simplistic. This is just terrible lyrics with minimal music. Love has nothing to do with the poorness of this song.
You're joking, right? I know I wasn't alive when this song came out, but I know a bad song when I hear one. Sure, it's nice, and pretty, and romantic, But it's a god aweful song. It's poorly writen, and flat out cheesy. This would make a good poem, but as a song, it's terrible. And don't push your Popular opinion on what Love is to me. Love comes in meny forms.
Or, mabey i just need to be a soft prick to enjoy "Good" music.
@JearBearJones4 - its the simplicity of the song. Love is not always complex. This song is open and honest. It speaks of their days. Her young and caring heart, that moved her to tears by little things, this he can only now appreciate after she is dead. The little things matter so much and we don't realize it sometimes until its gone. Thats what this song is about. No need to be negative, yea the Beatles rock, but why bring them up?
@JearBearJones4 I think you are..how can I tell you?... You need look for help, because you don´t have idea about poetry, magic music, and other kind of art. I´m affraid that you never will fall in love. pitty!!!
This Songs, Holds A lot of Sentimental Feelings towards my mum and dad, He sang it to her the first night they met, and she cried and the where together ever since, and in February of 2009, She up and Left him, And We haven't heard from her since :(
I guess you're feeling sorry for yourself. Do something to brighten up your miserable day and learn to appreciate people for whatever they say, sing or do. But then you probably listen to rap shit music therefore you'll never learn.
this song and the one from Mike and the mechanics living years always makes me appreciate who I still have with me and I think about all who I have known that has past. So now go out and do just one kind deed today in memory of the people we have known. Just one a day and see how big the tree will grow
I love this song! It was a hit right after my sister died and she was several years older than me and she was like a mom to me The song reminded me of her so much back then and I loved those memories! Still do! she was the best sister. She even gave me an allowance! A dear Christian who died Very young!
The tree is a very powerful symbol of his lost love, but - does he still have the dog? Imagine how the dog misses her, too, and them just sitting there together, missing her. Damn, I need to go to work and stop this sad musing...
Amazing, powerful song from 1968....and BOO to those that keep rating this song among the worst in rock history. You have no idea what good music is about, none.
To my beloved friend Angela. Her boyfriend just linked this song to me, telling me how it always reminds him of her. And it's so true. Why is does it always have to be the angels that die first?
dedicated to my late husband True 1950 -1998. We fell in love listening to this music. I will never forget him. He named our son from "Watching Scotty Grow". Many good memories in Bobby's music.
If you don`t mind listening to this beautiful song in a different language, there is a very good cover of it in Estonian. It is called Mälestus (memory) and sung by Mikk Mikiver and Heli Lääts. So sad that Mikk himself died a few years ago. Enjoy and remember your loved ones, but don`t hurt yourselves over a song :)
Is there anyone knows if there is a simple similarity or if it's a real plagiarism between this song of bobby goldsboro and the song called "les divorcés" by Michel Delpech a french singer? (You can find this song on youtube) thanks!
Without a doubt one of the most depressing records ever. Why it went to #1, I'll never know. If you're already depressed when you begin to listen to his insipid record, you'll be suicidal at the end of it. YUK!!!
the first time I listened to this pretty song I woudn`t speak English eventhough I enmediately liked it. Today I feel locky to be able to understand it, It`s the most beautiful I ever heard!
Not to demean an okay song, but try being a six-year-old boy coping with the death of his mom while this song is inescapable on the radio. Today is the first I've been able to face it in over 40 years and I'm having a very hard time.
The lyrics here make me think Honey was maybe retarded or a 13 year old bride. Did she drown in the dog dish or what? Every time me and my friends hear someone moaning about their life we say "...and Honey died!"
What a wonderful but sad sad song. My boyfriend and I broke up some months ago but now we try to rebuild our relationship but we take it very slow. I never stopped loving him and he says the same thing. He played this song for me this morning and I started to cry and I realize how silly we are to give up the love we share for each other, we are so blessed. Thanks for the wake up call. I love you my bobogubbe.
I may only be 26 now, but growing up I remember my mom rocking me in her chair and singing this to me. While she continued to do so with both my younger sisters I remember sitting next to her while listening to her sing. It always made me cry, but i never stopped loving it. I now rock my son and sing it to him while he sleeps although I couldn't remember all the lyrics, now I have them. It is such a sad song, but beautiful all the same... Thank you for posting!!!
This song is very touching to me because it reminds me of my mother. She died recently and I miss her very much. Now all I have is memories. Not many, but good ones. Great job on the video <3 :)
