rlwr2 - You know, Grandmaster James Mitose does have a son, Thomas. The rest of the folks who claim to be Hanshi are not even Asians. We have 2 White boys - on in Canada and another in the US, Sancramento to be exact, and a Black man who claim to be Hanshi. So, of these who is Japanese and who is family to Grandmaster Mitose? ANSWER: Thomas. Btw, I am not in Thomas' camp or Bruce's camp. My teacher left Kosho Ryu all together even though he has a certificate from Grandmaster Mitose & gave it up
Who is being tricked by whom? This is audio of Juchnik talking to Hassan. Does this mean he did not receive training from Mitose? No--it does not. It means that he pursued every source of information regarding Kosho that he could. He also went to Hawaii. He also trained with Young. So what.
By the very definition of training, Mr. Juchnick did not receive training. Training involves physical activity . What other than philosophy did he obtain from GGM Mitose. If I read about Mr. Juchnick, discussed concepts s/w him, interviewed him, attended his seminars, would I have been considered to have trained with him?
Moreover, Mr. Juchnick took the information he learned from GM Hassan and claimed it as GGM Mitose's direct instruction to him (Mr. Juchnick). If he did not physically train with GGM Mitose, what is he teaching? The so what becomes that people are studying what they believe is GGM Mitose's kempo when it is not. This puts them in danger of hurting themselves and other individuals. We do not believe that is what self-defense is designed to do.
Again, as previously mentioned, we do not dispute what Mr. Juchnick knows outside of GGM Mitose's Kempo. We have heard he is very talented. However, what he teaches is not what GGM Mitose taught, and therefore should not be claimed as such.
You certainly have it out for Juchnik (though you haven't bothered to learn how to spell his name). Who are you?
Kosho is a collection of concepts and principles. There are no katas or techniques in Kosho.
The trial transcripts, by the way, state that Hassan was not trained in anything beyond the most basic level of martial arts. Didn't Hassan only train with Mitose for 7 weeks? How much can be learned in that time? Answers to questions such as these would be more helpful.
This is interesting. Ironically, his name seems to be spelled the same way (Juchnick) on numerous videos and postings over Youtube including seminars.
However, let us not get distracted. You choose to devalue and marginalize GGM Mitose's system into just philosophy and principles??? You seem to forget that GGM Mitose's system is comprised of both theory and practical application (most of which took generations to perfect).
If in fact GM Hassan was trained in nothing but basics, why did Mr. Juchnick choose to seek out patterns and movements he should have already had if in fact he did train? He did not seek GM Hassan until after Mitose's passing. What could he had possibly want to "implement" in his (Juchnick) schools as he indicated, from someone (GM Hassan) who only knew basic moves? What is the point of learning what you already know, since learning in itself is a behavioral change?
Again, if Mr. Juchnick did not train, then what is he teaching that came from GGM Mitose? If he is teaching only philosophical concepts regarding GGM Mitose's system, then this is how it should be presented.
I don't think you can open a school with someone after 7 weeks of training. Those knowledgeable in GGM Mitose kempo, know how GGM Mitose kept track of his students and their time. Most of this has been discussed already. Since repetition is only necessary when practicing, there is no need to continue. If you have new information, please post it. If you have questions about the transcripts, talk to someone who was there: GM Hassan. He is still alive. I wish you well in your own training.
Thank you for your inquiry. No, I have not trained with the GGM Mitose's son Thomas Barro Mitose. He is the head/inheritor of the "kigan" (praying hand) system.
did you ever train or work with thomas barro mitose, son of the late grandmaster? what do you say to his claim of hanshi inheritor of kosho shorie ryu kempo?
These are pictures of Mr. Juchnick receiving training in the Mitose system taken in 1982 when he invited Grand Master Hassan to Sacramento; teach him the octagon, v-pattern, and the Mitose escape patterns. There is also audio footage as well. This is the extent of his training. Mr. Juchnick is not the Hanshi of the "old pine tree" Mitose system. The old (hoken) instructing the new (kigan).

Yes--and they are spelling his name wrong. Responses to the other issues raised would be more interesting.
