Legal is legal. Bush league is a bizarre standard that the layperson deems, in their own way, what is "honorable" or not. Why aren't Lefty Specialists bush league; or intentional walks; or bunts?
@Coastergeekperson04 Rule 9, Sec 3(f) (page 112) (it is a balk when) While not in possession of the ball, the pitcher stands with either foot or both feet on ANY PART OF THE DIRT AREA (circle) of the mound during a hidden-ball-play attempt; ---- Taken straight out of the NCAA rule book. High school, you can be in the cutout, just not on or astride the rubber.
@JDmansk8r there is no way from the poor quality of the video and the bad camera angle to tell if he was touching the clay cutout or not. If he was touching clay, as stated before, it is a balk. If he is not, it is nothing, play on. However, as stated before, it is a total Bush league play, and I can just about guarantee someone it going to be pulling a ball out of their ear for the Gators when they come to bat!
The rule is can't be on the dirt without the ball. He was on the grass behind the dirt pretending to tie his shoe. This is exactly why middle infielders should walk the ball in when runner is on second pounding his chest for his mom and girlfriend in the sands after hitting a double he's got a good chance of stepping off.
You guys see it as bush league but if you played baseball you would realize how people who are shitty leaders are annoying, and deserve it. Example: leading before the pitchers on the rubber, deserve to be embarrased

the hidden ball trick shouldn't be illegal because it follows along with all the rules of baseball, the coaches and players should just be aware on the basepaths

this wasnt cheating! i hate the gators but being a baseball fan i know the rules well.. the hidden ball trick is completely legal. the only way it would be a balk is if the pitcher steps on the dirt while the fielder has the ball. this was just a good play by the gators and STUPID baserunning by the dawgs.
If you have to resort to a trick play to get the upper hand, then you better recruit better athelets to can actually play the game!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@cnobis Incorrect. Page 112 rule 9 in the NCAA rule book.... it is a balk when: f. While not in possession of the ball, the pitcher stands with either foot or both feet on any part of the DIRT AREA (circle) of the mound during a hidden-ball-play attempt;
The rule has been that was since I have called college baseball.
Umpires kicked that ruling, should have been a balk based on the little I can see of the pitcher's feet, could swear he is at least partially on the dirt.
@ILOVEUMPS According to MLB rule book (I know this is a college game) The pitcher must not be in contact with the Rubber (or "pitcher's plate") without the ball. It does not say anything about the mound or any surrounding area. The rule is 8.05(I) it is a balk if "The pitcher, without having the ball, stands on or astride the pitcher’s plate or while off the plate, he feints a pitch" Would you please state the rule you are referring to and the source. Thanks.
@vrininger Rule 9, Sec 3(f) (page 112) (it is a balk when) While not in possession of the ball, the pitcher stands with either foot or both feet on any part of the dirt area (circle) of the mound during a hidden-ball-play attempt;
@ILOVEUMPS hes not on the clay...? i dont get why you are arguing this he is kneeling behind the mound on the grass and I've seen it live before, its a STUPID runner stepping off the bag.
@STsixx Are you a college umpire? Go read the rule! The says DURING A HIDDEN BALL PLAY ATTEMPT, the pitcher can not not be on the mound (dirt cutout). It says nothing about the batter needing to be in position. This is a hidden ball play attempt. Go to an NCAA umpire clinic and learn something before you embarass yourself. Rule 9, Sec 3(f) (page 112).
@rapidfirebunnyrabbit Rule 9, Sec 3(f) (page 112) (it is a balk when) While not in possession of the ball, the pitcher stands with either foot or both feet on ANY PART OF THE DIRT AREA (circle) of the mound during a hidden-ball-play attempt; ---- Taken straight out of the NCAA rule book. The rubber only applies to MLB and high school, not NCAA, NAIA, and NJCAA
@GAT0RCHOMP typical Gator fan, can not take it when someone points out cheap plays by the orange and blue. Pull something like this crap around here, and the next batter up for your team is getting a pitch in the ear hole of his helmet.
@chickennoodlesoup901 I am looking carefully. You must have the best vision in the world between the crappy quality of the video and the crappy camera angle, it is impossible to tell exactly where his feet are. I can not say for sure he is on or off of the dirt. But it darn sure looks close enough that he is most likely touching the dirt with his glove or his feet.
@ILOVEUMPS you need to calm the fuck down and stop getting all defensive to the people replying to you. at 0:32 as the camera moves across the field u see the pitcher kneeling behind the mound.
@sbballer123 Rule 9, Sec 3(f) (page 112) (it is a balk when) While not in possession of the ball, the pitcher stands with either foot or both feet on ANY PART OF THE DIRT AREA (circle) of the mound during a hidden-ball-play attempt; ---- Taken straight out of the NCAA rule book.

@thealmightysims Baseball is 90 percent mental. It's also 50 percent physical but that's different-- 90 percent mental means trick plays, bunts, and offspeed pitches.

Not to seem like a dick.. but if baseball is 90% mental, like you claim, then the rest can only be 10%
