@49bigguy@MrGrevy Things weren't classier in the 70's. There certainly was plenty of cheap filth. And, as to rap, which did exist by then, what's wrong with verse spoken to rhythm? Poetry read to the beat of bongos in the early 60's? Ever hear the song, "Hot Rod Lincoln?" (1972).
@Lindawatcher Jimmy is in hell now?????? Of course Jim Morrrison burns eternally, but you're on the wrong vid. Jimmy Durante is one of the most beloved stars of all time and nothing that comes out of that evil trap of yours can change that! Can't be done!
and Good night, Mrs. Calabash, wherever you are. and Good night Mr. Durante, you brought a lot of laughter to a great many people. (without all the cussing, swearing and four letter words used today) Linda you were so lucky to have worked with Jimmy Durante.
@MrGrevy It's good to see racism is alive and well in the US. Hey, it's not black people's fault if you're not happy that Walmart or the temp service you work for doesn't pay that well. Blame the real polluters in American society. Do you need a hint who they might be, or is your keen American sense of irony picking up on my message?
@gruntball Racist? Umm no, just truthful. If you don't think rap is vulgar filth, I really don't know what to tell you. There is no denying that blacks brought this into society, so I don't see what's racist about it. As far as me working at wal mart, well, who is more likely to have a low income job? A White guy or a Black guy? Do you need a hint?? Furthermore, whites here bend over backward w/ affirmative action, diversity, etc to help blacks. You obviously have no CLUE about anything. Stfu.
@49bigguy I beg to differ. I think Lenny Bruce was plenty funny, and even earlier than this. Without Lenny, there was no George Carlin, no playing with language to find new laughs in our absurd hangups over language.
Even so, I loved Durante. Still do. And, I miss him and all the greats from that era.
This is just sad. Peoples idea of humor was completely lame back in nineteen dickadee doo. The writers must have been hoping this old bastard's catch phrase was going to save this turd of a skit. This is hard to watch!
Oh this is classic! I have never seen this and I'm a Ronstadt fan. Like the other poster stated, who would have thought you'd see Ronstadt and Durante together? Probably one of the strangest combinations I've ever seen.
