"Contrary to expectations, it are the poor smallholder farmers who are feeding Malawi".
Contrary to whose expectations? Smallholder farmers have numbers on their side - there are millions of them. Of course it are the small farmers who are producing most or all of the food. There is this myth that most of the food can be produced by large commercial (foreign) operations. The future of Malawi is in Malawian hands.
A president with a vision and thats what Kenya lacks. It is great that a poor country like Malawi can teach Kenya a lesson or two.
I like president Wa Mutharika's stance on fighting corruption, it doesn't matter who you are if you are caught, you will face the music. Then the fact he is also the minister of agriculture.
Yes, less politics and more implementation of policy.

Lessons from Malawi: with even only a little help from the State, agricultural output takes off.
Time to start taxing the mines, and reinvest in other economic sectors like agriculture and manufacturing, to diversify the economy.
That is the way forward.
