I love Light rail! I got to ride the MAX in Portland quite a few time when visiting friends there! Very efficient way to travel. I would like to ride this as well the next time I head up to the Seattle area.
I wish we had cool shit like this in Florida but I know it will never happen because it's not green nor progressive like Seattle,Portland, and the Northwest.
@VadikKMV Did you watch the whole video? There is a long underground section in it. Also, Seattle is expanding this system, and the new expansions will be mostly underground.
Well, it looks like they did a hell of a great job at it....
It maybe a light rail, but it moves like any metro rail system in america like Boston's mbta, Chicago's cta, or Philly's septa or patco (that's where i live)
I rode this today from downtown to the airport...it is a wonderful system..It is a long schlep from the light rail to the airport terminal. Some moving sidewalks would be nice.
Checkout Vancouver's skytrain, serious rapid transit, automated fast, seperated guideway. 20 years in service, now running at capacity. We are a city that uses public transit, because it is faster than a car. People need to see where they are going, underground is alienating, it alows them to make sense of where they live and seel at home/safe.
Looks the a trolley..."ding,ding,ding goes the trolley, ring, ring, ring goes the bell'...lol...who sang that ? Judy Garland in the movie 'Easter Parade' back in the 50's???.....
@donzaliko Maximum speed for link is 50 MPH. They only do that when they are on the elevated or tunnel sections, when running in the streets it only goes 35.
@peterpocasset Central Link generally runs right-hand, but trains will cross over often to allow for track maintenance, etc., when needed. They'll usually pop back over before the next station so boarding doesn't get messed up - though occasionally they can't, resulting in the operator having to correct the automated announcement for what doors to use.
@peterpocasset At the time Tukwila (where they was filmed) was the last stop and trains would have to switch over tracks. The current last stop (at the Airport) has a center island platform.

I normally support the building of light rail but it's almost stupid to think that a lot of people use this (probably very expensive) system in Areas like this.
It's almost impossible to operate a light rail line cost effective in these american suburbs.
@mailxxxxxx The fact that a lot of people use it means it was a good idea to build it. Any form of mass transit, be it bus or train, needs government funding to operate. It's just like schools or police and fire - necessary services, but not something that will ever be self supporting.
@mailxxxxxx What about the costs, in blood, to our servicemen and women, dying every day to keep Big Oil and Big Auto afloat thanks to the American taxpayer? A car-dependent American spends $250,000 over a lifetime to own, insure, fuel and maintain an automobile. How about taxpayer subsidies to Big Oil and Big Auto for road construction? Put a price-tag on the weeks lost over a lifetime to sitting in traffic! LIGHT RAIL IS SMART PATRIOTISM. It serves all, harms nobody and saves soldiers.

Interesting that once upon a time cities all across America had 'trolleys' (now they're called lightrail) and they were destroyed and replace with buses. Now the trolley is getting revenge...HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.
A lot of crooked politicians took bribes to shut down their city's trolley system. But there will always be a group who loves lightrail and anothe group who hates them.
i like. if you look very closely, you can see playing cards on the walls of the tunnel. Looks really neat. And I do love the sound of light rail through tunnels.
@Lukelr What's cool about those is that, since they're actually LED light panels, you get a different 'hand' each time you go through. They also spell out words, so (for example) in the morning they will say "Good Morning." Pretty neat.
The speed was noticeably faster in the tunnel. I do think the speed limit is faster, probably because there isn't the chance of someone being on the tracks, or of there being noise from being elevated.
Seattle's light rail system looks nice! It looks quite different from what I'm used to seeing here in LA. :)

I'm absolutely not a fan of light rails but Seattle's light rail looks really neat. I can't wait to visit there this fall.

@jalfredl I feel the same way, that and + I have a friend that was involved in the construction of it.

Why are the they moving on the left-hand track like England or Japan ?

@peterpocasset What are you talking about? This line uses right hand running like most places in the US.

@mailxxxxxx if the cost of gas keeps going up, more and more people will be happy to suffer crowded stations and take transit.

Does the speed limit increase in the tunnel, or is it just tunnel noise that makes it sound faster? Great video!
