I don't really see the need to compare two animation programs. They're both great, and we know that because they're both used at major animation studios.

It is necessary this comparison, because most of people thinks Flash is only one software to do professional 2D animation for TV shows or whatever, if toon boom were more popular, the diference will be more clear, but for now, people believes, that Flash is the most efficient tool to do animation, that not necessary includes scripting.
well duh animate is more powerful with 3d animation, because flash can't do 3d animation. flash could make a game or scripting comparison, who do you think would win that?
@ToonBoomAnimation so quit comparing it to flash. flash is made for people who want to animate using interactivity. if they want 3d animation, they can just use blender or 3ds.
@Kyorere1 Your are missing the point. Animate is a 2D animation software for animators. It includes advanced animation features such as the 3D multiplane camera among many other things. Maybe you should give it a look :)
@ToonBoomAnimation i've tried animate, i like flash a whole lot better. and my point is that you shouldn't compare things with totally different goals, especially when it plays to a certain thing's pros and the other thing's cons. flash isn't MEANT for this, just like animate isn't meant for scripting
@Kyorere1 I am happy to see we are saying the same thing: Animate is for animation and Flash for scripting. That is why we are encouraging Flash animators to try Animate. We have developed close to 10 hours of free video tutorials to assist users in learning and mastering the tool. Animation is our passion and we are totally committed to our community.
Animate has true 3D space. Flash does not. Unless you start getting into external actionscripts like Papervision, but thats mind-boggling to new users.
Adjusting the Z-axis in Flash only works for objects on that same layer. So if you have two layers, the one on top will ALWAYS be visibly above the other layer regardless of the Z-axis settings of your objects. And as we all know, its pretty rare you can do anything animation wise in Flash with more than one object on a layer.
i often work in 3D space and all you gotta do is alter the Z axis of your elements after you've positioned them in 2D space, then convert the entire timeline to a movie clip.
Then 3D rotate the new movie clip and all elements will move relative to their distance from the camera.
When it comes to Flash vs. Animate there is no contest.
However the only software that I would ever consider over Animate is Anime Studio Pro 6 mainly for it's inverse kinematics and the fact that it does most of the animation for you. However I like Animate better because I'm more comfortable with it.

@Kyorere1 Animate has no scripting capabilities because animators are artists and not programmers.
