What can you say about this song and video except it is so true to life. Macy Gray is so talented. Her songs hit you right at home. Still, is so exceptionally written and is so true to life. Actually, it is the agony of a relationship with an abusive love interest. It is partly due to poor self esteem and value of oneself, but we don't necessarily choose who we love and aren't able to turn feelings on or off like a light switch. Unfortunately, someone who is naive, young or just inexperienced in how to sucessfully deal with abusive people, ends up missing these critical junctures early on in a relationship, and the wrong tone is set for what is acceptable. Then it's difficult.

She really doesn't technically have a pretty voice, but there's something very appealing about her raspy-ness. Soul is almost too bland a word to describe it.

@Agnelum1 I kind of disagree with you; I have no clue who Mika is, Louis Armstrong is known for his trumpet playing, and I like Joe Cocker's voice. I also don't really like Whitney or Mary J Blige.

@Eifler121 ok.... if you haven't already listened to her music, i'd also recommend you give Randy Crawford a listen. i think she's an amazing soul singer. recommended tracks: "you might need somebody", "almaz", "imagine" and "one day i'll fly away".

it seems inconceivable to me that she never had a #1 hit; even in the days before mass-marketed happy plastic disposable garbage that seems prevalent of late.

I love Macy Grey, this is a different video for this song though. I guess cause it's on the other CD too but she is definitely High no doubt about it and the video gives more of a high feel to it then the other one, I figured the slow moving everything and the glazed over eyes were more then enough to indicate that, great new video.

I hope for Macy that this song is not autobiographical. The character in this song cannot recognize that the things she loves are the very things that are destroying her. On first glance this sounds like a love song. The second listen it sounds like an abuser's dream come true. Finally, one can see Macy Gray's brilliance as an artist as her character's narrative perfectly identifies and exemplifies the intertwined psychic writhing of drug addiction and physical abuse.
