not at all, if you know how to ride bikes well and how to adjust wheels and brakes the right way, cantilever brakes will work fine for motorized bikes. Even over long term use.
well, the motors have a limit on how fast they will run, so the bike tops out at 35mph or so stock (the only way i ride them), even downhill you are only as fast as the motor. On some hills the bike will go faster if you pull the clutch and dis-connect the motor all together.
@DVMsucks Still very fast on a bike but hey have you ever been stopped by the cops on this thing? also because of the engine would the police give you a hard time about getting this thing licensed?
@DVMsucks agreed. ive just completed the breakin on my trek. gotta be gentle if you want em to last, ( after break in, give em hell if you so desire )
The bike should be easy to pedal with the clutch disengaged. Start off by pumping the primer button a couple of time and then down on the choke. while you are peddling engage the clutch. if it doesn't start , disengage the clutch and peddle some more, then engage the clutch againe.
GRA. the only problems i would say with my motorized bike is the chain always seeming to get looser, so i gotta keep tightening the chain idler, and going over bumps. i find myself always slowing down before going over bumps, because the bike i put the motor on doesnt have any shocks or anything. a straight frame like yours.
there is a thing you can buy that is made for one speed bikes, its a spring loaded tensioner. you can bolt it right to the one that came with the kit.
well i can tell you. i have the same motor as him. its best to get a mountain bike with at least 21 speeds since you can peddle with it. It climbs up hills not bad actually, IF you help a little with peddling. even if you dont, it goes up pretty swell... and im on the heavier side of about 200...
no dude, this bike and all the others i have made have an 80cc 3.5 hp motor in them. they have different size ones like 49, 60, and 70, but i get the 80cc kit.
is there a way to put the motor on the back upper side or something, not in the middle? is there a kit for that? the bikes I have don't have enough room in the middle..
hey man nice bike. I really want to put a motor on my schwinn mountain bike, but I am very mechanically stumped. Would you recommend buying a motor kit from ebay or something with schematics on how to install them, and if so, how much would a motor be, like a 80cc?
Hey, I got one of those engines from "Live fast motors" on eBay and there great but there illegal for me because i'm 14 years old but still fun. What i'm trying to get at is that I had the same trouble with taking out the slack with my chain, but my dad showed me that you can take out one more link and it might be a tight fit but the chain will break in it self.I hope that helps so you don't have to use that chain tensioner so heavily
dude, i gota tell you i have been working on fixing making and toying with all kinds of bikes for a good 10 years now. i have made 4 motorized bikes as well.i needed to ues the tensioner cus the bikes got no room top or bottom. i know whats up. but thanks anyways!
its running in the video on a mix of 16:1 with normal 2 stroke oil because it was new at that point. thats why it was smocking so much. it now runs on a 20:1 and you can't see any smock. (faster too!)
@bluemountaindrivepae 90 miles would take about 3 hours on one of these bikes. Can you do that without an engine?

how hard was it to do this?
sixaxis171 1 year ago
@sixaxis171 not hard, but i don't recommend building one, they are loud, junky, and rather dangerous. go electric. as see in my other newest video.
DVMsucks 1 year ago
@DVMsucks Why its junky? I was just wondering.
I was thinking build it in few weeks.

Dude you must go through brake pads quite often with those brakes it seems like you would need to convert to discs at those constant speeds.

ils360 2 years ago
it was brand new, the first tank of gas, you need to run it rich before its broken in. i have built 9 of these bike my friend.
DVMsucks 2 years ago
dont you think the intake is a little restrictive though?
NehpetsK57 2 years ago
not really, it could be better but that would involve a lot of carb adjustments and it wouldn't help all that much with the power of speed.
DVMsucks 2 years ago
yeah stock usually ends up being better money wise, Im curious how much it bogs up hill?

Im getting one soon and im only weigh 110Lbs. Im gonna fly on this thing!
modslayer 3 years ago
the main thing for speed is you need a bike with very true wheels, if they are just a little off the bike will go a lot slower.
thejoshfilms 3 years ago
Can you tell me how well this tackles hills? I want to do 40mph but don't want to have that high a gearing and not be able to get up hills.

i make them all the time to sell, and i get them off ebay every time. its always around $175 usd shipping and all.

ok, so to get the kind you have on your bike, around 175 or so? If that is so, what is your ebay site? I am very interested in purchasing a kit.

i don't sell the kits or anything on ebay. i buy them from someone on ebay and i make the bikes.
