no kidding country isnt the same anymore.....only country i listen to anymore is this kind right here...90's and some 80's too...those were the best days for country music....soooooo many beautiful songs...now they are just cramming different genres into one and putting it on the radio, calling it country....pshhh that shit isnt worth listening to
my daughter and i were blessed to meet ricky van shelton in 92, she was very ill and he did concert in our home town, she went back stage and met him he was amazing very sweet, kind and allowed her a special thing in her life, 3 years later god took her home, but that memory will always stay with us, she was so very happy, i to wish he would come back to singing, god bless.
when i hear this song i cry.my dad can never teach me how to drive he passed when i was 1 week old </3 i have seen pics of him but i never have and never will get to know him im 16 now and just thinking of him makes me cry.Daddy i <3 u and i know ur watching me some day ill be reunited with u and we will never say goodbye i <3 u
this song hits a special spot i remember when my dad taught me to drive it was his custom built limited edition 1977 camaro with a built 350 with an automatic turbo 400 tranmission with shift kit had glass pck exhaust shinny black paint
I miss this stuff it meens alot this new "country" is f***ing imbarisin no1 sticks to the roots they sing 2n make money not to inspire people my generation is pathetic we worship an emo tat cant sing wat hapend 2n tha days where we thew rocks at people like that seriusly have you taken a good look at 2ndays "music" its imbarisin we have went 2n far we need tha oldies back n F*** TIS NEW S**T
Im sick and tired of people bashing today's country. True, SOME of it aint real country. Jason Aldean, Toby Keith, Trace Adkins, Rodney Atkins, that's our country. So what if they have some heavier guitar? Faster tempo? Better drumming? That don't mean it aint country. Yall quit bashing today's country, country is country. All of it is great. Except Taylor Swift
This song reminds me of when my dad taught me to drive, play baseball, be strong and compassionate, love my mom, my wife, cry, learn from mistakes, talk to God...the list goes on!!!!
This song reminds me of riding with my dad on runs in his 18-wheeler during summer vacations as a kid. I've kind of gone on a different path, I work in a high tech field, but I definitely remember my Southern roots. Southern for life!
Ricky Van Shelton is the best in my opinion. I wish he would record again. It's just not the same without him in country music or gospel music. God Bless You Ricky and your wife, Bettye. Gwen Weaver
this song takes me back to when my mom taugh me to drive it was a blast we laughed and had a great time. I miss her she has been gone for 18 years now
@mollymariegustafson sometimes i think back when i was a kid and i remember mom telling me take youre time and live right but i like what you had to say i am sorry that you lost youre mother, mom i am sure that she is looking down from heaven and thinking how proud she is of you
@jeffirf no, he's not. Blake Shelton jokes about it, but in a negative way I think. Not sure why. Ricky Van Shelton and this song was what got me into country music and he'll always be my favorite. It's a shame he's retired, I would have loved to see him live again
I thought of this song the first time I let my son drive. It doesn't seem to me he should be old enough to drive yet.......17 years gone by real fast.
@unc23airfd Kepp on lookin', them good ol'songs are there waitin' to be heard--by YOU! This one makes me think of teaching my boy to drive-BIG surprize--but I love the feelings that are generated!!!! Peace
Ricky Van Shelton is the best!!! Wish my daddy had lived long enough to teach me to drive. Then see his grandchildren. He would have loved them. And this song. Great song by a great artist.
for the 2 that dislikes this song there is something wrong with you or you just don't have ears to really listening to the meaning behide the song and you need to get a f*cking life
So many believers do not understand balance. We go too far one way or the other. We need to learn to keep it between the lines. We can serve our Heavenly Father best that way, without living for the world, or being so Heavenly minded we are of no earthly good.
I cried listening to this song again. I haven't heard it since I was a tot and now it's my turn to raise my little boys on my own and we do just take it day by day (Keep It Between the Lines)
reminds me of when i used to sit on dad's lap and drive in Rosharon, Tx.--"Little Odie"!!....I LOVE YOU DAD AND I MISS YOU WITH ALL OF MY HEART!!...REST IN PEACE...
reminds me of when i used to sit on dad's lap and drive in Rosharon, Tx.--"Little Odie"!!....I LOVE YOU DAD AND I MISS YOU WITH ALL OF MY HEART!!...REST IN PEACE...
man this takes me back to when i was a lil girl... ricky van shelton is one of the many greats of the early 90s... wish this kind of music was produced today.... what an awesome voice...
What year did this come out? I know I was in elementary school but cant remember what year. It had to be before 1991 because my grandmother was still living.
this is the song my sister adn dad danced to at her wedding... i know its a little different for a daughter father dance.. but my dad has sang it to her since she was a very little girl... love this song.. love all ricky van.. he has a great voice
this reminds me of my father this song take me back when my dad teached me to drive in is old car on the old dirt roads and it reminds my son father is not apart his s

Beautiful, we don't have this anymore. You hardly ever hear Hawkshaw Hawkins or Hank Snow on the radio unless you find a VERY RARE OLD COUNTRY station on the radio. It's disheartening because it is history; sounds that we grew old and or up with. :(
These artist of today just have no dam idea how country music should sound. This is true country music. RVS all the way!!!!!! This is real counrty music!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I really like this song because my daddy raised me all by himself. He was all there for me when I needed him. Right or wrong he always had my back with a love that you rarely see today. I love you Daddy.
I'd like to say that of all the country songs Ricky has done, I'd have to say that this one is one of my favorite RVS songs. Thanks Ricky, and for God's sake, Please put out some new music!
Last month when I went to get my lisence, my dad came home the night before and walked in the back room where o was sitting and said, I was on my way home, thinking about tomorrow, and I thought of a song. He made me play it and laughed the whole time. I passed the test and everyday I get in the car, my dada voice is ringing in my ears telling me to keep it between the lines.
this song goes directly with my life..with mom not being there to raise me and everything! it is a great and just overall amazing song! its like this song was made for me! this is me amd my dads song also. i love it
Yet another great ballad from the early 90's. I'd also like to say that I think this song should serve as a bit of advice on how to navigate the troubles life throws at you.
I have to agree with others about this being a part of Country music, when it really was Country. Ricky Van Shelton will always be one of the best in Country Music and I really wish we could go back to this era.
they do not come much better than ricky vann shelton on much when it comes to music. miss you ricky and thanks for making music what it is supposed to be this song is actually country music this day and time though country music has gone to wild from what it is really supposed to be..
Ricky Van Shelton did not die in a car accident, like someone claimed. He anounced his retirement and is spending time with his family back home. Love your music Ricky.. but ur voice is even more beautiful when ur singin' for the Lord.. God Bless You and ur family..
I know where Ricky is. He's just living back in his hometown. I think he got disillusioned with fame a bit and all the excess partying so he stepped out the spotlight. He wrote some children' s books and recorded some christian albums. I got to meet him several times in the prime of his music career. He and my dad were best friends back in their hometown.
i heard a story that he once seen the devil in the back of his tour bus when he was drinking heavily and touring. Not long after he got out of mainstream country and started singing gospel. have u heard anything along these lines?
The quality sure is great, especially for a video that's this old. Keep on watching CMT Pure Country, and please keep these high-quality 80s and 90s videos coming. Got any by the Judds? Pam Tillis? Patty Loveless? Unfortunately, I don't receive CMT Pure Country on my TV.
@bigbenkentucky I know what ya mean, Big Ben. My mama pulled out our Comcast Digital Cable on Oct. 22 of last year, for the U verse garbage. It wouldn't be practical to move to the higher tier level, just to get CMT Pure Country. I want my beloved Comcast back. The Lore can soften even my mama's hard heart, even though she's a Christian like me. God bless!
This is real country. None of that crappy new pop stuff. I may be only 16 but I've been listening to this since I was a little kid. Thanks to my grandpa and grandma.
Who's gonna fill their shoes?

As I looked through the windshield at the quiet little street
He was smiling so proud as he gave me the key
But inside I knew he was as nervous as me

Are you sure that I'm ready to drive this car now
He said I'm right here beside you
And you're gonna do fine
All you gotta do is keep it between the lines

I'm currently going through my library to find some more videos.

God bless!

@bigbenkentucky couldnt agree more. Country videos now days look like pop and hip hop videos.

This is real country. None of that crappy new pop stuff. I may be only 16 but I've been listening to this since I was a little kid. Thanks to my grandpa and grandma.
