False premise. A Govt option (coverage) for the young and destitute and universal care (Canada, UK) are not even remotely comparable.
Also: note the production quality here. Only deep pockets could afford a disinformation campaign like this. This is what your grossly inflated premium dollars goes towards these days. Buncha crooks.
"A Govt option for the young and destitute and universal care (Canada, UK) are not even remotely comparable"
You haven't listened to Obama closely. One is a clear road to the other by his own words, in proper context. The comparison is accurate to Canada more than the UK due to differences in who works for whom -- the problem is, no one works for the patient. (btw, I love my HSA+Catastrophic coverage and the cost is quite acceptable)
I did not elect "them", and besides it would be totally off point even if I had.
If one begets the other, then how do you exaplain Germany and Switzerland? Both have had universal coverage with private care for generations.
The facts do not support the idea that a modicum of public insurance - or even mandatory insurance - leads to Canadian or UK style health care. The either/or premise is just polemical wishful thinking and scare mongering designed to sway a rightfully dubious audience.
... and I am totally with you on the HSA + catastrophic. That's what I have. I keep recommending it, but continue to hear from families and pre-existing condition types that it does not work for them. Not sure why.
number one-the government does not look to take over the system, what they offer is to create a public option.
number two-there is testing, most develop countries do have public options, they make their citizens healthier, and spend a lot less of what America is spending now.
number three-it was not mention that not only the president and many democrats think it would work, there is a huge amount of doctors and analyst that think the same.
Yes I'd love to have a trial run. Like I said, the experiment has been done in many places and it works fine. Implement it right and it will work.
It'd be nice if you went to work for one of the regulatory agencies being bullied by big corporations. They need a little of your attitude regarding burden of proof. The next time a big oil company wants to drill somewhere or use hydro fracturing etc, they should have to prove it won't cause damage. The same is true of many industries.
Look around. The world has conducted a very nice experiment for us. Many countries have public options and they work. In fact if you actually look at them instead of listening propaganda like this you will see they work much better than the US system. Further, in GDP terms they offer a saving of at least 5% or 700 Billion dollars a year. No country no matter how rich can afford to ignore that.
The burden of proof is on those that want to increase the size of government. If we enact it and it doesn't work, we will have to live with it because government almost never decreases itself in size.
Being "not so sure" is only a fair position to hold when you don't have all the facts at the moment and you temporarily suspend judgment on the matter. The responsible next step is to learn more about the issue and come to a conclusion which you CAN be sure about.
To sit around and act like being "not so sure" is some kind of valid, permanent position is irresponsible.
Re:Medicare-Right now the ratio of workers per beneficiary is 3.7 and the system is going broke. With the numbers of baby boomers leaving the work force daily and adding to an already burdened system that ratio will soon be 2.4 workers per beneficiary. So, pea-brain, since there are no more workers, where do you think all this money is going to come from to pay for all the new people you think deserve the same health care?
from big companies or people who earn more that 250 thousand dollars, if you do then i understand you are upset if you don't then maybe you are letting all those fear tactics get to you, lets talk about death panels, first the idea in the 21 century is totally ridiculous but lets say is possible, the patient can change insurance, remember the reform offer a public plan not a take over, as last resort they can just run to the emergency room and be treat, of course that would bankrupt that people.
You really believe what the politicians are telling the truth about the health care reform specifics? Are you aware that since president Obama has been in office, he's lied about just about everything he campaigned for? (patriot act, troops home immediately, no govt spending increasing deficit). The American government is CORRUPT, democrats and republicans alike. MOST government run organizations in America have failed...I'm not going to trust them with my health care.
The 'exchange' would set minimums for ALL insurance plans, thus you can not choose to have less (thus pay less) than specified by the Gov. In short, I could not keep my current insurance -- that I DEARLY love -- under the exchange.
"It can't happen here" was said in Germany, Russia, and everywhere else it did happen -- saying that is like a big sign saying "come get us now, we aren't looking!"
The solvency of Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security is in jeopardy and this administration wants to bring the entire country down with more government programs that are unsustainable. There are 46 million people on Medicare now and that is projected to rise to 79 million. How will adding millions more to a bankrupt government run plan make it more efficient. That is just plain foolish and unconscionable liberal craziness.
you forget that the reform includes medicare and all already existing health agencies. the money will come from new taxes to big companies and people who earn 250 k a year.
Most "people" who earn >250k are SMALL BUSINESS OWNERS who file as a close-corporation. Small business owners not only will take it in the shorts but they will LOOSE incentive to grow their business beyond 250k since it will be a net loss for them until they
"Tax the company!" means "less money for a raise."
"Tax the insurer" means "higher premiums"
What's hard to grasp?
Btw, according to hard figures, medicare denies more claims than any insurance company, yet notice the propaganda?
"they will LOOSE incentive to grow their business beyond 250k "
Strawman Alert!
Even if this were true (and I doubt it) then it could have a number of upsides, including 1) More opportunity for competitors or substitutes to have $250K salaries; or 2) Allow owners of proprietary good or service to charge a premium and make their $250 for less effort; or 3) put the interest in increased growth/revenue/profits in the hands of employees - you know, the ones who'd kill for a $250K salary.
2ndly, imagine if 3/4 of the US population relied on optional Medicare available to all who want to buy into it... making it cost NEUTRAL (a family could get covered for about $100 per month).
Do you really think that 2/3 of the citizenry WOULD ALLOW MEDICARE TO SUCK? Hell NO! The people who fucked it up would be voted out with a quickness.
Try voting out the CEO of your insurance company. Teabag the corporate speakers at their next luncheon and avoid going to jail.
Testing, OK. How about Australia, New Zealand, the UK, France, Sweden, Germany, France, Norway, Finland, Holland, etc, etc, etc.
Even Canada, which does only have a public health system does better than the US in terms of both costs but ALSO OUTCOMES.
Every other country I mentioned has both public and private. If you can afford it, go private. But a good standard of health care is afforded to everyone else so no one dies or goes broke because they can't afford to pay.
Also, The was an American newspaper that said that is 'Stephen Hawking was British, he would be dead because the NHS wouldn't have done anything about it.' Yeah -- the only problem is that STEPHEN HAWKING IS BRITISH!!!!
This is ridiculous. I like in the UK, where the NHS (the National Healthcare Service) does a perfectly good job. Government run healthcare is just another option. not what you HAVE to do. If there wasn't a public healthcare service before what did people use? Paying healthcare. this is only another option.
So then is the news lying about reports of maternity hospitals turning women away due to a lack of beds and/or staff? And needing government approval for more funding to make up for the need?
I'm sure the lack-of-hospital-beds story is misleading. Tell me more.
You can find a couple of those incidents in many countries if you look hard enough, but you won't find those cases nearly as much in a system which public officials, subject to reelection, are charged with keeping costs down.
I have watched videos which show workers from cash-strapped hospitals in California dump sick, homeless patients on the street in their hospital gowns.
Let me guess the selfish, greedy, and/or pathetically frightened right wing conservative comeback to my last comment:
'Their (sic) hoamliss (sic), thay (sic) shoold'nt (sic) git (sic) nuthin' (sic) fer (sic) FREE if thay (sic) cain't (sic) work hard like the rest of us an (sic) bye (sic) it on they're (sic) own.'
Medicare, Federal Employees Health Plan, Veterans Administration are all Nationalized healthcare plans. In fact, Nationalized healthcare has been "tested" and work well in every industrialized nation in the world.
You are totally out of touch...must be from floating out there in the s.Pacific -) Medicare is going broke, FEHP has several options...whatever you might be willing to pay additional for; VA care has been atrocious for GI's with serious problems; TRICARE for life is another joke...try and find a doctor who will accept it. Wake up. Time to come off your dream island.
Insurance pools are all about spreading risk. The more participants, the less the cost for each participant. How could you have a bigger risk pool than Medicare-for-all, with private insurance companies allowed to TRULY try their best to beat the cost and/or find their nitch among the wealthiest among us who can afford the 5-star treatment when they visit the doc?
My private insurance tells me what doctor to use, where to go for treatment, and what tests and treatments they will allow. My wife, diagnosed with cancer, had to wait two months for an "in network" doctor at an "in network" hospital. Thank God she doesn't have leukemia and need a bone marrow transplant. US insurance companies call this treatment "experimental" although it is used all over the world. Wake up, people. Health care is big business in this country like oil and we need help.
You want the military to protect you from terrorists.
You want the police to protect you from burglars.
You want the fire department to protect you from fire.
You want the FDA to protect you from being injured or poisoned from stuff...? Wait, do you? Some of you don't I guess.
But you don't want a government health insurance plan to protect anyone who so elects to use it to protect that person from CANCER? Are you out of your fucking minds?
Um, how about every other industrialized nation besides the US? Is that proof enough, you conservative dolts? Europe has figured it out already. They don't let a greedy few deny THEIR citizens a chance for "LIFE, liberty, and the pursuit of HAPPINESS." It's hard 2 have life when you have cancer & your private insurance company declines 2 honor their agreement with you. It's hard 2 have HAPPINESS when UR sick, bankrupt, and can't afford to get better.
If you don't like the insurance companies then pay for your own medical expenses yourself? Don't want to? Too expensive? Now you know how they feel. Someone has to pay for everything. Only idiots (which include most people) think there is a such thing as a free lunch.
If only politicians had incentive to pass laws that will bring down costs (which are different than prices for all you economically illiterate out there).
we also elected obama BECAUSE WE WANTED HEALTHCARE FOR ALL!!!HE IS DOING EXACTLY WHAT WE ELECTED HIM TO DO,,, THINK ABOUT IT HE RAN ON THIS HEALTHCARE FOR ALL PLATFORM,,AMERICA VOTED HIM IN THE LARGEST MANDATE IN 30 YEARS,,AMERICA WANTS THIS ,,,WE VOTED FOR IT,,THOSE THAT OPPOSE IT REPRESENT A FRINGE MINORITY VIEW,,,,
He was voted in based on Change, not health care alone. People wanted a change from the republicans, that's why democrats won the majority of elections, but it's clear there wasn't going to be a "change," rather a shift to what happened before the last eight years.
PUBLIC OPTION !is the best but if you dont like it just buy something else.. there will always be private companys to go to...this is only for the uninsured and those who want it...I DONT UNDERSTAND WHY PEOPLE THINK THIS WILL LIMIT CHOICE? RIGHT NOW 47 MILLION PEOPLE HAVE NO CHOICE THEY HAVE NO HEALTHCARE AND YOU ARE PAYING THEIR WAY ALREADY!! AT LEAST WITH PUBLIC OPTION WE CAN PREVENT THESE PEOPLE FROM ENDING UP IN E.R. ..SUPPORT THE PUBLIC OPTION!!EITHER WAY WE WILL PAY WHY NOT GET BEST DEAL?
ITS NOT A TAKEOVER! this is the problem...people like you who are happy(nothing changes for you dumbass!! i think its more like you just dont give a crap about your neighbor...what about the 47 million of us who have no access to healthcare?thats who this is for,,,,if you like your health insurance YOU CAN KEEP IT WITH NO CHANGES!!,, WHY IS THIS SO HARD FOR YOU TO GET?,YOU ARE JUST SELFISH? AND OR "NOT VERY BRIGHT..THERE IS NO "TAKEOVER" ITS JUST COMPLETE PARANOIA,,,AND SELFISHNESS
Government run health care has been tested and has suceeded in Medicare, Medicaid, VA healthcare, and every developed country except the USA. Not to say those systems are perfect, but they get better results than private insurance. Oh and nobody goes broke because they got sick. What was the (glossy, industry-funded) point again?
Medicare, Medicaid, and VA health care is some of the worst health care you can get in America. And for cancer, stroke, and heart disease (and probably many others I don't have figures on) the life expectancy from time of diagnosis to the time is death is much longer in America than all countries with a national health care plan. Not to say Insurance doesn't have problems but Government run doesn't mean better.
The wonderful free market guy in this vid looks like a young John Edwards - minus the calls for compassion while having out-of-wedlock babies w/the complicity of his stricken wife, championing poverty while living in a 10,000 sq ft home and claiming he doesn't know ANYTHING about it.
John Edwards - The New Face of the Democratic Party!
Another fine video trying to make you feel uncertain. The stooge (or strawman) really plays his part real well. I wonder if the same know-it-all would have said the same thing about HMO's. Oh I'm sure we know the market will solve everything. Right. Gotcha, I'm so stupid. Axion444 nailed it dead on. It has been tested and though not perfect, surely works better than the current system, or even throwing a few band-aids on it like the free marketeers are proposing.
Where it is "tested" it is a verified disaster. Those in socialized countries who are healthy say they are happy, but the ones who have medical problems call it a disaster. Where are you getting your info?
Again, we have a current system that has some problems--which need reform. Why do we need to tear down an entire house because the roof leaks? Why don't you advocate for changing just the aspects that are broken and not a complete overhaul? If you and B.O did, you might not be loosing.
And just to add some more to your good points: They have said from the get go that the largest problem with healthcare is cost. Two of the main reason the cost is so high is runaway litigation and the insured paying for those who arent. ex: one gyno in FL pays 225000.00 a year in liability premiums. NOTHING addresses either of these issues in the current boondoggle. May it be because trial lawyers have the dems in their back pockets??
lol. Okay, seriously. Even the government takeover cannot possible be worse than the abomination we have today. And nationalized health care has been tested...in basically every other industrialized country in the world.
more glossy propaganda from your "ethical" insurance industry thats raking in profits from your premiums and by denying medical care. No reform, they win, you pay either way, but pooled risk lowers the cost/patient
ABSOLUTELY, let's reform the insurance industry. No doubt about it.
Get rid of competition so that you can buy insurance across state lines. Also, let's have tort reform too.
But let's not say that a government take over is the ONLY way to solve the problem. That's so foolish. It will lead to disaster where both the rich and the poor will loose in the end. What good is that?
Takeover? who said take over? that's your language. "free markets" are a conservative fantasy, OPEC, Enron, Lehman, AIG, Iceland, etc.
tennis shoes and t-shirts is one thing, but not healthcare, security, water, air.. no thanks. Collusion in pricing, market control, and "self regulation" is inevitable, may history be my proof.
The usual defense that "we never really had a free market" is bogus. The conservative free market construct is academic, not reality.
First of all. Currently, the private system is heavily regulated by the federal government ( 133000 pages in the federal register.)
The government healthcare option has already been tested out. Medicaid, Medicare, VA are all bankrupt/ing and heavily subsidized by the private insurance industry.
It's the gov job to protect us from each other (police, army, etc)
In Canada it works because they have NO Tort legal system in use. If you sue anyone, 'you' must pay the expenses if you lose. All of the expenses, even the costs the defendant incurred to defend themselves. Canadian system as the U.K. and Europe, removes the exorbitant Parasitic Drag that the U.S. system is forced to add onto the costs of every product and service. In a total Pyramid of Lawyers system, like the USA, (from TOP down) the lawyers write the laws to THEIR own benefit. DaFlikkers
I think we should give conservatives what they want. On next year's tax forms, provide a way to opt-out of and not have to pay for any socialized health care: not the current proposal, not Medicare, not Medicaid, not VA care. Let's give people a chance to rely on their hard work and creativity. And, if at some point they can't afford the care they need, well, they can appeal to their communities for charity. In any case, I'm sure the kingdom of God awaits these good people. Right, Mr. Hannah?
Yes give them a chance to purge them selves of any government program. They will have to defend themselves, because they cant use the government funded police, let there house burn because the fire department is funded. They have to pay higher costs for schooling due to public education.
Don't make a argument that you pay taxes so your paying for it anyway, because that exactly what you would be doing for the health care system.
Har har! It's like Medicare and the VA don't exist, much less most other industrialized countries! Not much of a view with your head up your a**, is it?
Every other industrialized country on the planet has some form of "socialized" medicine and they get better results than America with our for-profit system. Lower infant death rates, longer lifespans and they do it while spending far less money than we do.
Imagine that the guy with the cheap rope represents the INSURANCE company, in our current system. The INSURANCE company wants you to enjoy whatever rope they give you. If you don't have the money for rope, you are in the emergency room, begging for whatever the for profit system will let you have.
For all those who think the Obama care will be wonderful, READ THE BILL and learn the truth.
Besides ask yourselves, if Obama care is so wonderful, WHY AREN'T YOUR CONGRESSMEN GOING TO BE ENROLLED IN IT??? I think if they want to pass this bill, they need enjoy "Automatic Enrollment" like many other American's will.
We do not receive one penny from insurance companies -- or ANY corporation, for that matter. Nor do we have donations from insurance executives. We are exactly what we say we are: a grassroots non-profit which only takes donations from individuals. That does nto require us to make cheap-looking videos, however. We strive for excellence. Colin Hanna, President, LFR
can you prove they used blue screens? i have never herd of blue screens, i have heard of GREEN screens and if you have a (Blue?) Green screen what is the need for a crane? Also define crane is it a small lift or a massive tower crane because the costs are very diffrent
oh, and if they didn't use keying, they were actually on location for this shoot -- that's even more expensive. So either way, this is a TROLL video produced with a big budget trying to keep the insurance mob from losing it's 20% cut off $2,400,000,000,000 health care in the US every year.
You're actually trying to tell ME that this is low budget, non-profit shit? BULLSHIT.
Ha, I think it's pretty good. Hundreds of thousands are watching these three videos.
And it's pissing you off----so that makes it even better.
Where's your video, angry man? Or better yet, where's even one fact that disproves what is in these videos? Are we supposed to believe you because you cuss?
So what if it is big budget? Why can't a non-profit make good videos? I don't get it?
I know the life of a liberal must be very frustrating and cause your great anger, but chill a little.

The conservative character puts his liberal buddy in danger to prove his point? And it works!?! Who is this ad trying to convince other than conservatives who have a high opinion of themselves? Hope the actors got paid enough to cover their health care costs for the month. They better not have been union, that'd be socialist!
While looking for something to comment on and deride the evil conservative, you fail to notice that they're using the same rope. Would you risk your own life simply to make such a point? Neither would an evil conservative.
As for unions, my perspective is just as valid as yours might be. I've experienced the downside of the union mentality, and thus have a strong, informed opinion. I assume you have too, or you wouldn't put such a thing in your post. You can have your union just allow me not to
You know what will happen. Even though more and more people are realizing that this is a horrible idea, congress wont care. There's enough Dems. who are more interested in pushing their plan then listening to those the represent that it will get passed. It's going to be another party lines vote. Dems for it and all Reps and a very few conservative Dems will vote against it.
I think it makes a lot of sense (and unfortunately, all true). And there's tons of substance--logical explanations which all come from the bill itself!
And about the winded dorky liberal--HA! that's the best part. Funny innuendo.
See, I don't think there is anything wrong with talking points when they are true!

"That's because you don't have the brain power to comprehend the ad!"
how is an idiot not choosing the correct rope akin to healthcare reform? The whole analogy of "i tested it, i'm an expert" is just stupid because that's not at all what's going on in the healthcare debate.
Their restaurant video is even worse! The government bureaucrats come in with orange jump suits, "euthanize" grandma and let little jimmy starve.
It's pure bullshit and has no basis in what is actually being discussed!
Actually, it made a salient point. Have you read the senate and the House bill? If not, shut the fuck up till you do. Both bills are BULLSHIT PAL! And they do have a provisions for rationing healthcare to the elderly. It's already begun! I know, I'm a nurse!
Having actually read the bill, I'm gonna have to disagree with you on that one. Unless you can show me the section and sub-section number in which you read this, being a nurse isn't enough for me to believe you.
Good luck to all Americans in the coming debacle of healthcare by Obama. There are not enough primary care docs and things are definitely going to be horrid. I hope to become and ex-pat and retire somewhere else, taking my 30 years of healthcare experience and college degree with me.
You get to keep your own plan? You think employers will keep their health plans around when there's a "free" government option available? And talk about testing - government plans have been tested in the UK, Canada, etc. etc. and they all would love to get their treatments here in the US.
The only thing I can really trust the gov't to run is defense, b/c they have been at it a long time and their asses totally depend on it. Outside of that there is not much at all they are any good at.
It's been tested in Ma. And HI as well. utter and complete failure...
It's one thing to implement an untested plan, but to try and implement a plan that has been tested and failed is insanity.
You can't fix debt by spending, you can't ensure good health by rationing medicine, you can't help the economy by raising taxes, and you can't get people working by destroying businesses and employers.
4) One last point, you said And besides, you can keep your own plan if you like it. The bill specifically says that you can your own plan but you can never make any changes to it. NONE! If you change jobs or anything else you MUST switch to the government plan. Keep on drinking the kool-aid but please dont make us drink it too.
3) Then we have the VAcome on, youve never heard horror stories about the VA? Try googling horror stories about the VA and see what pops up. I work with HIV/AIDs patients as a Physicians Assistant and I battle with Medicaid & Medicare all day long
2) Military health care? I grew up as a dependent in the military. Military health care sucks! Sure, they have some of the best trauma care in the world (I believe thats what Kristol was referring to) but thats it. Ive been battling cancer since age 16. Im now 42 and in the health care industry myself. If it were up to military doctors Id be dead right now. Thankfully, my parents and grandparents paid for private health care for me.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Dumb. We've already tested a public health care option: Medicare (which people like), the VA system (by all accounts, pretty efficient), and the care people in the military get (acknowledged by Bill Kristol to be better than the care most people get). Other countries have tested it to, and we can see what works and doesn't work there. And besides, you can keep your own plan if you like it. This isn't bad propaganda, but it's not exactly honest.
being a recipient of the VA health care system I can personally vouch that it is less than efficient. You might want to check out the MA mandatory healthcare system. Even the state government admits that has cost much more than anticipated (3x) and is not providing the healthcare desired.
In this plan they want to take some funding away from medicare to pay for it. This will mean rationed care for seniors who have paid taxes their whole lives. and if this plan goes the way of other countries they will not get care for chronic illness or will die on waiting lists for treatment that is never intended for them to get. They also want required "counseling" guess what that will include.
In this plan you cannot keep your present insurance, that is a lie. If there is any changes at all in your coverage status, you will lose your private plan! If the company you now have changes the deductible, or out of pocket, or if you leave that job, you are done. After that you can only get the government backed coverage! If you go without insurance you will be fined and be forced into a plan.
1) Heres exact honestyMedicare/Medicaid? BANKRUPT! Besides, its hard to find a doctor who accepts Medicare & Medicaid. Why? Because the government doesnt want to pay doctors much and they try to dictate what meds and services the patient can receive. I dont know of anyone who LIKES Medicare, they have it because they dont have much (if any) choice.
You don't get to keep your own plan. Start at page 16 and tell me which part of Euthanasia don't you understand. There is not one country that has a better health care system then the U.S. Every State ran health system is a mess and has a waiting list for months. You will not have a private option. BHO and Barney Frank said they want to eliminate private coverage. You will be fined $5k every year you don't join a Government plan. Read the bill and do some research before you mislead people.
Err... When did I comment... 9 hours ago... hmm... I don't know how thats.... OH! My friend must be using my account... or something. I have no idea what your talking about. I don't pay attention to that stuff at the moment... maybe in a few years... Hmm...
Great illustration of what people "think" will happen. Maybe the US could do a pilot study (test) of their plan before we role it out to the country and kill the best healthcare in the world. Make this video go viral and post it on your Facebook, MySpace, and Twitter accounts.
PS - drug companies can only test their drugs on a small sample of patients. Everyone is different which is why there are continuing studies that show safety concerns leading to withdrawn drugs.
unfortunately, no company private or public..in country or the world health organization can say that the US has even close to the best health care.. its rated really low on any study you look at! Public healthcare is rated higher in every way, which is why the US is the ONLY 1st world country left with it!

The points made here are not unreasonable, but too much information is either left out or altered. 'We test things' for example... sure, to an extent, but did the writer of this video actually examine our pharma (much less, oh I dunno, food, toys, etc) practices versus those in other developed nations? All too often THEY are the ones who require pharmas to PROVE a product is safe while we repeatedly have to pull things off the market after they're PROVEN unsafe... complete 180 from this script
The object of your trust has to be trustworthy in fact. What a great way to make that point. The government has not proven trustworthy handling social security, overseeing medicare fraud, veterans care, etc. Why should we trust them with something so important as our health care. . . our lives? More government bureaucracy is not the way to fix our health care!

There are crooks involved...you elected them.

Funkalunatic. What facts are inaccurate? Typical libtard respose when they can't respond to the truth.
kc7gnm 2 years ago
facts that are inaccurate:
number one-the government does not look to take over the system, what they offer is to create a public option.
number two-there is testing, most develop countries do have public options, they make their citizens healthier, and spend a lot less of what America is spending now.
number three-it was not mention that not only the president and many democrats think it would work, there is a huge amount of doctors and analyst that think the same.
some of the inaccurate facts.

The same is true of many industries.
gregjwoods 2 years ago
Prove that it's going to work. OK.
Now. PROVE THAT IT WON'T WORK.
Insurance companies are scared.
gregjwoods 2 years ago
The burden of proof is on those that want to increase the size of government. If we enact it and it doesn't work, we will have to live with it because government almost never decreases itself in size.

Being "not so sure" is only a fair position to hold when you don't have all the facts at the moment and you temporarily suspend judgment on the matter. The responsible next step is to learn more about the issue and come to a conclusion which you CAN be sure about.
To sit around and act like being "not so sure" is some kind of valid, permanent position is irresponsible.
It's complacency masquerading as common sense.

Re:Medicare-Right now the ratio of workers per beneficiary is 3.7 and the system is going broke. With the numbers of baby boomers leaving the work force daily and adding to an already burdened system that ratio will soon be 2.4 workers per beneficiary. So, pea-brain, since there are no more workers, where do you think all this money is going to come from to pay for all the new people you think deserve the same health care?
ducksonmydock 2 years ago
from big companies or people who earn more that 250 thousand dollars, if you do then i understand you are upset if you don't then maybe you are letting all those fear tactics get to you, lets talk about death panels, first the idea in the 21 century is totally ridiculous but lets say is possible, the patient can change insurance, remember the reform offer a public plan not a take over, as last resort they can just run to the emergency room and be treat, of course that would bankrupt that people.
danielvg85 2 years ago

Pissy Steve:
The solvency of Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security is in jeopardy and this administration wants to bring the entire country down with more government programs that are unsustainable. There are 46 million people on Medicare now and that is projected to rise to 79 million. How will adding millions more to a bankrupt government run plan make it more efficient. That is just plain foolish and unconscionable liberal craziness.
ducksonmydock 2 years ago
you forget that the reform includes medicare and all already existing health agencies. the money will come from new taxes to big companies and people who earn 250 k a year.
danielvg85 2 years ago
Most "people" who earn >250k are SMALL BUSINESS OWNERS who file as a close-corporation. Small business owners not only will take it in the shorts but they will LOOSE incentive to grow their business beyond 250k since it will be a net loss for them until they
"Tax the company!" means "less money for a raise."
"Tax the insurer" means "higher premiums"
What's hard to grasp?
Btw, according to hard figures, medicare denies more claims than any insurance company, yet notice the propaganda?
VALivingston 2 years ago 3
"they will LOOSE incentive to grow their business beyond 250k "
Strawman Alert!
Even if this were true (and I doubt it) then it could have a number of upsides, including 1) More opportunity for competitors or substitutes to have $250K salaries; or 2) Allow owners of proprietary good or service to charge a premium and make their $250 for less effort; or 3) put the interest in increased growth/revenue/profits in the hands of employees - you know, the ones who'd kill for a $250K salary.

Hey ducksonmydock (dicksonmycock?),
Insurance pools are all about spreading risk. The more participants, the less the cost for each participant. How could you have a bigger risk pool than Medicare-for-all, with private insurance companies allowed to TRULY try their best to beat the cost and/or find their nitch among the wealthiest among us who can afford the 5-star treatment when they visit the doc?
pissysteve 2 years ago
My private insurance tells me what doctor to use, where to go for treatment, and what tests and treatments they will allow. My wife, diagnosed with cancer, had to wait two months for an "in network" doctor at an "in network" hospital. Thank God she doesn't have leukemia and need a bone marrow transplant. US insurance companies call this treatment "experimental" although it is used all over the world. Wake up, people. Health care is big business in this country like oil and we need help.

Not to say those systems are perfect, but they get better results than private insurance. Oh and nobody goes broke because they got sick. What was the (glossy, industry-funded) point again?
cartesian1 2 years ago
Medicare, Medicaid, and VA health care is some of the worst health care you can get in America. And for cancer, stroke, and heart disease (and probably many others I don't have figures on) the life expectancy from time of diagnosis to the time is death is much longer in America than all countries with a national health care plan. Not to say Insurance doesn't have problems but Government run doesn't mean better.

Oh I'm sure we know the market will solve everything. Right. Gotcha, I'm so stupid. Axion444 nailed it dead on. It has been tested and though not perfect, surely works better than the current system, or even throwing a few band-aids on it like the free marketeers are proposing.
astucky77 2 years ago
Where it is "tested" it is a verified disaster. Those in socialized countries who are healthy say they are happy, but the ones who have medical problems call it a disaster. Where are you getting your info?
Again, we have a current system that has some problems--which need reform. Why do we need to tear down an entire house because the roof leaks? Why don't you advocate for changing just the aspects that are broken and not a complete overhaul? If you and B.O did, you might not be loosing.
IAmKenYo 2 years ago 3
And just to add some more to your good points: They have said from the get go that the largest problem with healthcare is cost. Two of the main reason the cost is so high is runaway litigation and the insured paying for those who arent. ex: one gyno in FL pays 225000.00 a year in liability premiums. NOTHING addresses either of these issues in the current boondoggle. May it be because trial lawyers have the dems in their back pockets??

ABSOLUTELY, let's reform the insurance industry. No doubt about it.
Get rid of competition so that you can buy insurance across state lines. Also, let's have tort reform too.
But let's not say that a government take over is the ONLY way to solve the problem. That's so foolish. It will lead to disaster where both the rich and the poor will loose in the end. What good is that?
IamKenYo2 2 years ago 2

Takeover? who said take over? that's your language. "free markets" are a conservative fantasy, OPEC, Enron, Lehman, AIG, Iceland, etc.
tennis shoes and t-shirts is one thing, but not healthcare, security, water, air.. no thanks. Collusion in pricing, market control, and "self regulation" is inevitable, may history be my proof.

jsanftner 2 years ago
First of all. Currently, the private system is heavily regulated by the federal government ( 133000 pages in the federal register.)
The government healthcare option has already been tested out. Medicaid, Medicare, VA are all bankrupt/ing and heavily subsidized by the private insurance industry.

Right, Mr. Hannah?
3exactly 2 years ago 2
Yes give them a chance to purge them selves of any government program. They will have to defend themselves, because they cant use the government funded police, let there house burn because the fire department is funded. They have to pay higher costs for schooling due to public education.
Don't make a argument that you pay taxes so your paying for it anyway, because that exactly what you would be doing for the health care system.

XDrSchnugglesx 2 years ago
being a recipient of the VA health care system I can personally vouch that it is less than efficient. You might want to check out the MA mandatory healthcare system. Even the state government admits that has cost much more than anticipated (3x) and is not providing the healthcare desired.
dwneylonsr 2 years ago 5
In this plan they want to take some funding away from medicare to pay for it. This will mean rationed care for seniors who have paid taxes their whole lives. and if this plan goes the way of other countries they will not get care for chronic illness or will die on waiting lists for treatment that is never intended for them to get. They also want required "counseling" guess what that will include.
smedge7 2 years ago 7
In this plan you cannot keep your present insurance, that is a lie. If there is any changes at all in your coverage status, you will lose your private plan! If the company you now have changes the deductible, or out of pocket, or if you leave that job, you are done. After that you can only get the government backed coverage! If you go without insurance you will be fined and be forced into a plan.
smedge7 2 years ago 2
1) Heres exact honestyMedicare/Medicaid? BANKRUPT! Besides, its hard to find a doctor who accepts Medicare & Medicaid. Why? Because the government doesnt want to pay doctors much and they try to dictate what meds and services the patient can receive. I dont know of anyone who LIKES Medicare, they have it because they dont have much (if any) choice.
msfeeney1 2 years ago 5
You don't get to keep your own plan. Start at page 16 and tell me which part of Euthanasia don't you understand. There is not one country that has a better health care system then the U.S. Every State ran health system is a mess and has a waiting list for months. You will not have a private option. BHO and Barney Frank said they want to eliminate private coverage. You will be fined $5k every year you don't join a Government plan. Read the bill and do some research before you mislead people.

Just look at MA. (I think that's the state, correct me if I'm wrong) They have a state run system and it's tanking fast.
We can make the healthcare system better without socializing it.

How? That's what Republicans keep saying but they're yet to suggest any alternatives.

They have. they've talked about tort reform. And one plan I like is tax credits designed to help people afford their own health insurance.

unfortunately, no company private or public..in country or the world health organization can say that the US has even close to the best health care.. its rated really low on any study you look at! Public healthcare is rated higher in every way, which is why the US is the ONLY 1st world country left with it!

This needs to be on TV. It makes quite a visual example of what we are being asked to do.

This comment has received too many negative votes show
The points made here are not unreasonable, but too much information is either left out or altered. 'We test things' for example... sure, to an extent, but did the writer of this video actually examine our pharma (much less, oh I dunno, food, toys, etc) practices versus those in other developed nations? All too often THEY are the ones who require pharmas to PROVE a product is safe while we repeatedly have to pull things off the market after they're PROVEN unsafe... complete 180 from this script

i like the way,
how he said "we test drugs",
in his own, kinda demeaning ,special way,
which i guess was just a question of money to emphasize this part a bit more.

Whoever makes these is a genius. If only these were commercials, maybe then people would start to understand.
Great video, loved it.
