idk y.... but I can't help but feel some kind of connection o_O out of all these video blogs ppl do i really like yours... hmm i wonder y... LIKED!!! :D subbed
I live in Portland Oregon and it has a large gay community but I don't know where to start my mom knows I'm gay and has taken me to gay pride even before I could speak what could I do if I don't have any gay friends i'm so alone lol I know I'm not boy but it sure does feel like it! I know I'll find it eventually I'm only 13. I love your vids! You make me smile!
thank you for that i am young and i dont know what to do with my life i am not gay but a have alot of gay buddys and they dont know what to do with there self . also they are so sad all the time that they get made fun of. like that the gay kid stay away, or they are gay lets go pick on them . this gave me ideas to help my buddys.
Well first, thanks, jess, for this vid. I'm actually still in the process of coming out and even if i have no a gay group of friends for now, I guess it just takes time...
So you went there with your best friend.. Was/is he/she also gay? .. Cause my problem is kind of that I don't want to go alone and none of my straight friends want to go to gay events with me.. :(
Mike93345, I usualy don't reply to ingnorant and prejudice comments like yours, but just so you know- you are the reason why these young people have such a hard time with put their real selves out there. You judgemental attitude is not wanted here. Jess is a great person and she is help others with personal issues so please go somewhere else. (not that it matters but I am stright and I am ashamed of it when people like you act out)
I'm mostly out at my high school, not by choice either. Most of the people I actually did tell have big mouths. But I have NO problem with it, if anyone gets onto me about it I just say if they're proud of who they are, then why can't I be proud of who I am?
i came out a year or so ago!! i found an inclusive church and they have been my support!! yeah is important to have that support from the community and yeah the beaver bunch is my greatest support!!
don't feel bad, i just turned 18 on dec. 4th and i have been out for 9 years! i came out to my family when i was 9! I grew up where just about everybody was either gay or bi tho so it was cool! :) Now in saying that i am going to go write a love letter like you said! :)
What If there's not such place like that in where I live but 1 gay night club... and I don't really like night clubs... :S... and it only opens one night a week and I always forget to go on that night because.. well... I don't really like night clubs........ Any suggestions?
Oh My goodness---that is my story from high school when I came out--only one in the school! Did everyone go to you for every gay question they ever had?
I hope to someday have the same spark in my Eye as you have.
A spark that on it's own tells the world and the people in it who you are and what they can reach/be in life.
I'm not gay or queer but listening to you always gives me hope and a mark to reach for the future.
Thank you Jess you make the world a better place. Not just for members of the GLBTQCommunity but for everyone who struggles with his/her personality and/or their environment.
"I just realized I was attracted to women in that way before most people."
Scratch that. I became aware and was comftorable with it enough to tell my parents before people. You can be bi or gay or whatever for years before you come out. Had to clear that up..Hehe.
"Yea. Put that in your back pocket." That's my new phrase. Lolz. You and Michell are my favorite beavers, I have to say. You said that you didn't come out late in life...I came out early. I'm only 12 and I've been bi for a year now. Hm. I wonder if your going to read this and be saying 'Wow. There's such a huge age range...' Because, of course, there is. I just realized I was attracted to women in that way before most people. Can't belive I'm typing this calmly.
"You're gonna come out for the rest of your life." So true. There are family members who live out of state, plenty of them, who still don't know. And when I meet people who ask me about who I'm with or my fiancee gets brought up in a conversation somehow, I feel the need to tell the other person(s) that I'm a lesbian. It is easier to do so the further along in life you go, as you said.
I also liked that quote that you read at the end of the video. =)
That's kinda what I did...I came out when I was like 16 or 17 and there was this youth group run by the local resource center every thursday and I went like every week. It was nice to go and be able to hang out with people who knew what I was going through at the time. Some people there weren't even out...they had to lie to their parents about where they were going or sneak out. It was a good experience
The place where i live is soooo homophobic and hateful and seeing you glow as you talk about being gay and being out affected me so much just now. You probably won't read this but anyways, just ... thank you. I don't think you know how much you touch people.
Okay, you might not even see this comment but its deffinitely worth leaving and this is probably your millionth time hearing this, but... you are amazing. Your purpose here on the beaver bunch, your output on the questions, and everything else. You honestly make my day, every monday, from 0%-100% of just feeling good about myself again, thats not easy for someone to do. So thank you. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you! :)
i do more than my fair share of writing love letters, love poem, love songs..lol good thing i have plenty of love to give, and it is great seeing the reactions to said loves letters
I look forward to your Monday videos every week; they always make my day so much better.
What you described is exactly how I feel. I've come out at college but I'm still struggling to find that group of friends who I feel comfortable with. Thanks for your awesome advice!
haha, no, I was asking: "what are your two favorite colors to wear in combination?" it was a really lame attempt on my part to ask a "get to know you question".
gotcha... umm... favorites to wear are definitely gray (charcoal-ish) and black. but i like to throw in some random american apparel colored shirt here and there... like the highlighter ones :) haha
1st. You have somehow made monday the best day of the week. don't know when exactly, but it's definitely happened
2nd. I'm now in the process of dressing how I want to dress. My community is the upper-class, heterosexual is the norm, anyone who is a bit different is really odd. Sucks for me but I'm trying anyway :) It's a slow process but slowely I'm feeling more comfortable to dress more boyish. this video gives me that bit of hope :)
I told my mom last year, so I guess that makes me technically out. Though she still thinks it's a phase. I'm still coming to terms with it. Sometimes I think she's right, but most times I know she's wrong. And while I'm not looking for a romantic relationship, you are right, it is best to find a support group with people who understand. it's amazing how many students are out on campus - at least mine.
Once again, great vid, great inspiration, and great smile Jess.
Yea Im in the middle like half of my friends know and half of them dont. But looking for a girlfriend in this state is difficult. Been on a couple dates but nothings paned out so far. Im only 19 so I havent lost hope yet...but thanks for the vid. Some good stories/advice. :)
It is really hard meeting people your age in the lgbtq community when you're so young. i cant wait to go to college to finally meet a good bit of them
Amazing video this week. You seem so happy and it's seriously rubbing off on everyone.
Excellent quotation. I'm with MCHeather & doug4eva.
I try not to conform, and it can be hard sometimes, but I guess that's all we can do, try to live life like it is, through the good, through the bad. And with all hope, we'll come out the other side as a better person, with more knowledge and experience than before, fueling and paving the way to being truly happy.
How wonderful that you had that coffee shop and other people to band together with in order to support one another. I love it! I'm sure your mom will understand. *smile* Great quote! (oh, and I just wrote my girlfriend a love letter...heheh)
I felt the same way when I surrounded myself with other people of the LGBTQ community. I think they were the reason why I felt comfortable coming out to my mom back in February.
The coffee shop meet-up sounds great, it's kind of like what me and other people on my college campus do except you drank coffee lol.
this was a really inspiring video! I am not out yet, but when I do, I hope I can find a support group like yours was. a coffee shop one sounds so cool! keep up the stellar work! : )
If I wasn't already out, you and The Beaver Bunch in general give such comfort that it'd be a lot easier to do. I'm gonna say atleast (minimum) ten people have came out after watching this collaboration. This is a virtual support group, Mon-Fri, right at home. Thank-you so much.
You have a SDSU sweater on, is that where you go?? If so is it a good school because i've considered it, so some background personal opinion would be great help.
You have one of the best smiles i've ever seen! <3
haha ur late night escapades remind me of the dead poets society..except instead of poetry, you guys talked about girls....ok maybe not so much like the dead poets society, but still pretty cool =]
and you know what, everything you said about what it was like for you after coming out, is practically word for word what im going through right now-thanks
I know what you mean about conforming...I'm half out. Some friends know, the rest don't have a clue. I enjoy spending time with the friends that I'm out to, rather than my other friends because I can be myself...I don't have to hide things etc. I just can't wait until I actually come out...Properly :)
I'm so jealous of that coffee place man! Luckily, my friends, or at least my main circle of friends, are all either allies or glbtq. Except one, which sucks because it stops me from coming out to a lot of people.
Still, I feel pretty lucky. But I am still jealous of that coffee place..
what you described was exactly how i felt when i first came out and even now a almost 2 years later. thank you so much and you're great! happy monday!

I have two very random and very unconnected comments, so bear with me.
1) I love the very random comment from colongil screaming about your pretty face. It made me chuckle.
2) "Go play" is probably the best advice I've heard in a very long time.
The end. :)
PS - This is attempt #2 at posting this because I realized that to and two are not the same words. Go figure.

Sorry, kidding, sort of. But good idea! I think I'm going to go write one to someone now.

I'm so jealous of that coffee place man! Luckily, my friends, or at least my main circle of friends, are all either allies or glbtq. Except one, which sucks because it stops me from coming out to a lot of people.
Still, I feel pretty lucky. But I am still jealous of that coffee place..

Jess, you look so good, almost like you're shining ! In love maybe ? Haha it's none of my business, but I hope you're as happy as you seem to be.
