@DJK290 Yeah, I'm not really saying anything about Ovechkin (or Crosby). My point is that you should always be prepared to take a hit within at least 2 seconds after you let go of the puck. You cant just get rid of the puck and get off the ice at the same time because people will be aiming for you at the time.

I am sure Briere knows he was a target before he shot the puck, I just think it's not often someone gets hit that viciously in a late check and he was just going for the line change. Speed is good in line changes, so it's not like he was going to back off the ice.
