And Grunge is just Punk mixed with a bunch of other things. Now, don't get me wrong, I love Nirvana, but they were somehow inspired or at least influenced in what was at the time, one of the most famous and representative bands: Green Day.

@Kerbesk yes i know punk came before grunge. i was there when it happened. but you are incorrect about green day. first off nirvana was in no way influenced by them and second nirvana was formed in 1987 and put their first album out in 1989. green day was formed in 1988 and put their first album out in 1991, right around the time of nevermind. the whole pop punk thing was possible because of nirvana. green day's dookie didnt come out until 1994, which was heavilty influenced by nevermind.

1000 hours is an EP. Green Day didn't release their first album until 39/Smooth in 1990. If we're going just from song releases though, then Nirvana's still first since they released Love Buzz on Sub Pop in 1988. Then again, I have no idea why it even matters.

@Kerbesk well it would have been tougher for any alternative act to be successful without nirvana. just ask any music historian. and yes green day does have some strong punk elements but theyre not pure punk. they can also be considered punk pop, and alternative hence their success whether they or anyone else likes it or not does lean on nirvana at least somewhat. it would be like saying what it there were no beatles or led zeppeliln. sure there would be other bands but not near as good.
