I still enjoy a Tootsie Pop now and then. In high school(Enfield High, CT - class of 1978), we had a teacher named Mr. Blair who, as a gag, would reward you for a good presentation in class with a Tootsie Pop . . . and if you did a VERY good job, you didn't get to reach in the bag and get it yourself, he would hand you a CARAMEL Tootsie Pop. He was actually one of the more popular teachers in school. Wherever you, Chester Blair - thank you!
Pinky's later shws, taped at the NBC Burbank studios were shot in color. Pinky Lee's father lived in the house behind ours -- and he arranged for tickets to the NBC Burbank taping. Doing his show in color was a big deal then. So I was in the audience at some point during the NBC color run.
I loved the Tootsie Rolls and Tootsie Roll pops the way they made them back then, they had REAL CHOCOLATE in them, now it just some waxy fake chocolate! Nothings the same! "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!!"
I wondered why I was so addicted to Tootsie Rolls & Tootsie Pops after all these years. It's Pinky's fault. My Mother says I got my lisp from watching him. I still remember seeing him on tv and live at Kennywood Park. She says he actually came up to me but I got scared and began crying.
This is the second half of a 1955 Saturday morning edition of "THE PINKY LEE SHOW" {he saved the more elaborate circus acts and audience games for the weekend}- note the small white square in the upper right corner of the screen at :02- that was a signal to NBC affiliates that a commercial was coming up {here, for Tootsie Roll Pops}...they used that signal through the mid-'70s.
This is a 'classic'....I really love the "OLE" DAYS....I bought Tootie Rolls yesterday! :) Im going to see if i can find another episode of PINKY LEE....... :)

In his next to last interviews with Mr.Gary
Collins on"Hour Magazine"? Pinkie mentioned that he used many different
ways to appear on his show..one was driving onto
the circus set in a little car.
Thank God This footage was finally found.
