So here I am browsing through IDPA videos for my first match tomorrow and I click a video before I even realize it's ole' Dr. Z. I'm sure I watched this last year but it sure means a lot more watching it now. It can be intimidating entering your first match, glad to see another newbie taking the plunge.
@drzmanproject It was a lot of fun, and I'm happy that with the excitement of it all I kept safe and didn't get myself DQed on any silly mistakes. Accuracy and speed will improve with time, but I definitely had a good time and hope to continue the sport.
@drzmanproject Very cool, I've never seen one of those in action, just a couple YouTube videos, but they look pretty intense. Are you going to be able to record your runs?
Get a holster, dont matter the make, brand, retention or any other some such talking point. get a gun of 38 cal or better, get a box of winchester el cheapo ammo down to the wally world, then do the IDPA website and find a club. make the call to the Match Director and then GO TO THE MATCH, or the practice and SHOOT ! and if you shoot a horrible first match, who cares ! you did something that most folks will not do, and thta is take the gun and actually use it like it should be !
@nocman2 This match was at the range where he was teaching one of his MAG-40 classes. After class, some of us stayed for the match, and I got to shoot in Mas' group!
Cool video, I'd really like to get into IDPA shooting myself, I would use my Glock 23. I'll bet it does take a while to get used to shooting like this, how much does it cost to enter a competition on average? Is it an expensive sport? Thanks and keep posting the good vids.
@John234pwns Blackhawk! CQC holster with retention, and Beretta Px4 9mm. Yeah, not the best concealment holster, but it's what I have at the moment, lol.
@drzmanproject Hey, what works for you works, right? I just think a lot of people run IDPA kinda gamey. I mean, they have concealment gear but choose to run fishing vests and OWB holsters lacking retention and such.
Very cool to see an actual IDPA match, I'm sure it was fun regardless of how well you did, especially being a beginner. I can tell you enjoy them, and I think you'll be progressing quickly with practice.
DrZ, you might have made newbie mistakes, but that's why we train! The main thing is that you learned at least one thing (I'm sure you learned 100's!), and that you had a good time. Have a great Thanksgiving!
Wish I could watch this whole thing right now, just don't got time, being the holiday season and having to catch up with 50+ other vids. Speaking of which, hope you have/had a great Thanksgiving, and your family as well!
@hinckleypoland Mas actually had me try a left-handed Glock holster, but it was slightly too short, so my front sight post kept snagging on it when drawing. One of these days I'll get a serpa when/if they are available for the px4.
i would watch this vid just for the tunes Drz but there's the bonus of an outstanding footage to go with it, the sound of the spent rnds hitting the dirt beautiful. Mr Ayoob sure can spin the "wheels", thank you for keeping it real Drz top vid, nice shooting, quick reloads. Whiskey Delta brother, have a safe and happy thanksgiving
you'll find man that this is sorta like heroin!!!! Once you start...its really hard to stop....great shooting!!! I wish that we were closer...I would love to come shoot with you!!!
great vid drz . good to see that your doing training and geting better .its also good that your showing your mistakes aswell . unlike some people who JUST show the good things . good luck in your training ,and keep up the good work.

@jhawkdude glad you had a good time! I got invited to my 1st 3-gun match this weekend, and that's going to be a completely new experience.

jhawkdude 7 months ago
@jhawkdude If they allow recording, I'll ask a buddy if he can film. Beachhead won't have a chance to be there, unfortunately.
drzmanproject 7 months ago
@drzmanproject Well good luck! Let me know how it turns out if you aren't able to record.

@TonyInTopeka Roughly $10 to enter. The greatest expense is the ammo, but if you're shooting anyway, this is a fun way to do it.
