I seriously wonder if this video and a few others are responsible for the fact that a year and a half ago I could almost afford to get one of these used on eBay, then they shot out of my price-range, then they just disappeared. I can't remember the last time I saw one for sale on eBay.
In other words, GREAT DEMO. I just wish it had been a little LESS great.
i can remember mine come with cards to put over the dials so you could make the sounds which told you what dial to turn early 80,s i had mine 83 i think
You can call me a heathen, but I preferred the SX1000 to play over the Minimoog D I had. this has "high priority" which beats the mood hands down. Watch out for the key contact springs. That killed my SX1000
Yes. Yes absolutely. Let me think, what do I not have anymore - Yamaha DX7, Siel DK80, Ensoniq Esq1, Casio CZ1000, Jen string machine, Crumar Performer, DX27, Kawai K4, Casio RZ1 drum machine, now we get to the scary bit; Roland TR808, Siel DK600, Roland SH101. I'd have all or most of these back.
If you'd take them back now why did you get rid of them? I'm not asking to be a smartass, but to hear your opinion. I face these kinds of issues all the time and I'm curious how other people deal with them.
A few reasons mostly not to do with the instruments. One broke down, I was moving house so it went on the tip instead of to a synth restorer; another fell down the stairs. One I gave away on a sort of semi permanent loan (give it me back if you ever want to get rid of it - he never did). Sometimes it was fiscal, sometimes it was foolish. ALso as time passes the old way of thinking used to be that anything new supersedes anything old but we know that to be erroneous now.
I've got one of these. Great realiable little synth. Easy to operate. Why would anyone want to compare a Voyager to the Jen? I've got other big name analogue's from the 70's, but I like the Jen for what it is.
i had one of these back in the eighties, really did have some fun with,i thought i was keith emmerson lol.great fun though.and looking at this vid brought back some lovely memorys thank you, youtube at its best,
@doom705 of course your Minimoog sounds better IT"S MOOG, lol.
*Roland SH-2 is the best synth in the world, well beside the Minimoog of course* words of a certain industrial musician.
Here's the price range with analog synths, ebay prices, Roland SH-2 around $800 roughly, Alpha Juno 1 (one of my favorite synths) being around $600, the Jen sx1000 $122 the last one I saw, and the couple Minimoog Voyagers I saw are between $2000 and $4000.
@doom705 Roland makes some awesome synths, the analogs, the SH series is awesome. My two favorite synth's are still the Alpha Juno 1 and the Roland SH-2 and 09. I'd love to own a Moog Rogue or a Voyager but I don't have the cash lol, they aren't cheap :p
the sourse was usimng strickly analog technology as with the minimoog voyager uses analog and digital for assesability. but man i love the old sourses there f**king lol sweet when did you get it?
I had one and not trying make any reflections on your abilities but you can be much more creative than your example conveys I made some great sounds with mine. The human voices were one of my favorite sounds and the ability to switch octaves easily creating some great effects.
I have a midied Jenny but haven't managed to make it sing like you. I'm new to playing and am very impresed with what you managed to get out of an unfairly poorly regarded monosynth. Thanks for showing me and everyone else what she is capable of.
I had one of these in late 80's, gave it to my brother, we had an argument over a girl and he threw it out a second floor window. It smashed into many many small parts which a child could easily choke on.
Very cool, and i learned some new licks on keys thanks! Hey how oscilattors does she have envelopes, adr? Can you tell us whats undert he hood of this beast? Sounds great man!!
the jen sx-1000 has 1 oscillator (saw, square, pwm) i've added a suboscillator (square -12), 2 evenlopes (ADSR) for filter and amp, 1 lfo for pitch (vibrato), pwm and filter, glide, octave selector, noise (white and pink), 12db/oct resonant filter...i think it's all :)
Niiice. I love the SX1000. Sure, I'd like an ARP 2600 or a Minimoog, but on a realistic budget the Jen SX1000 is amazing. Wood panelled sides, 24 dials, that genuinely raw analogue sound..

Any reason you were reluctant to go near the pulse width control? That's what gives the Jen it's phatness. Clearly not heard on this vid.
