However, this time when I made the Black forest cake for my husband's birthday, it kind of sat down when I let it cool after removing it from the oven. It looked nice and fluffed up when it was in the oven, but became half in height on cooling. What mistake would I have made?
When you take out cake right from othe hot to cold temperature, it may happen, too. These days, I keep my cake in the oven even after turning off the oven for about 5mins. And cake may get flat again if it is not cooked properly inside. There are so many factors for not getting right result so I am making list of tips when baking without eggs. I will post soon on website. My another video is also on the way with more tips.
All ovens have pre-heat stage, when pre-heat done, it gives signal with sound and pre-heat stage signal light gets off and now only oven light stays green now. So basically, we never have to look for timing, but if you don't have this fascility, then let it get warm enough before you put your baking stuff in....hope this helps.

Next time, you can add little less butter. I noticed that when I add even little more butter, it gets hard when I referigerate cakes made without egg. Usually I do not referigerate cake if I use icing made with butter but i have to referigerate when icing made with cream so when I keep cakes outside, they taste great and stay great as well. So this is the drawback you compromising with texture when you make without egg....but I always make very small cakes.
i m unable to find cool whip ...what can i do now to make icing for this cake hope u will solve my problem as i desperately want to make this cake with icing...please

But when did I say to soak with sugar water? I did say about orange juice. In traditional recipe, orange juice is poured on baked cake and it doesn enhance taste of cake...

He will sure appreciate...but I just would like to suggest that if you baking/making first time then make small cake before you make on your hubby's b'day so you get more confident about it...have fun!

Whenever I bake any cake, my standard measurement is for 1 cup flour take about 3/4 to 1 cup of sugar. So hope this helps.
