I can use a command in a config to run RAGE on my PC at 120fps (on my 120hz monitor of course), but it runs at twice the speed. I really don't understand why idtech4 and idtech 5 run in fixed time steps when they run over 60fps? Especially when every other engine out there (with much better graphics, might I add) can run at any frame rate you want.
I miss old ID, 75 FPS tons of enemy throw at you, epic gfx (for the time doom 1 was it was MW3 WOW GFX) and just balance of full game GFX tech and full game can do anything the devs want to amaze you.

@iamextremelyawesome Lol nice lie there, if it weren't for id Software then there would be no MW3, Halo, Golden eye for the N64. They've done so much for the gaming industry. MW3 sucks and is so overrated, RAGE doesn't need all this hate (I personally loved it). Look up the wiki for id, trust me they've done alot more than you think.
hey kid first think and then speak. This noob guy is the one who created the fps shooter genre. There would be no mw3 or halo if there was no doom. What are you 10 or something.
This guy is a legend. Doom and Quake, such innovative game for its time! If there were more guys like this in the 90's you could argue that the PC FPS industry wouldn't have died.
I hate how everyone compares Rage to Fallout 3, when Rage is meant to be an FPS, not an RPG. In terms of gameplay, I think Rage is more similar to Bioshock than Fallout 3.
@NINJACH0P957 They are in first person perspective, you can shoot things (arrows), they are FPS RPGs, they are FPS RPG games, really can't deny that, Bioshock, Fallout 3, all of the Elder Scrolls games, Pathways into Darkness, they're all FPS RPG games
@NINJACH0P957 To make it simple, if it's in First Person and you point at things then click to make them die, it's an FPS game, if you build up your own character, play the role of a hero how you want, then it's an RPG game, so by definition it's an FPS RPG, Rage however does not allow you to build your own character, it's not stat building beyond "You unlocked another power!", so it's a standard FPS game. World of Warcraft does not contain FPS aspects, it's an RPG game only.
@Programming12 This is the sort of retarded shit that the ignorant sprout. In terms of actually designing FPS John Romero was more influential than Carmack. Carmack made it possible with his genius programming but the guy has less creativity and ideas than a rock.
It should've been the pinnacle of all their games, but instead, it was a streamlined and watered/dumbed down version of Fallout 3, built specially for consoles.

I think the reason for his decision to make it 60 frames instead of 30 is that he hopes to sell the engine to activision again for the next generation of cod games.... cod doesn´t work with 30 frames!

Has anyone noticed how fluent John Carmack is when he speaks. Its painfully easy to see he knows what he's talking about. Its a bit awe inspiring to listen to him speak.
@agreatflood2121 I have to agree. He absolutely knows what he is talking about and there is so much enthusiasm in his words. @bongo155 What do you mean by "developer"? He's a programmer, making the engine. He isn't the only developer, he's in a team of a hundred people. So if you don't like the gameplay, it's not his fault, he is a brilliant developer.
Quake 3 was an multiplayer arena game, idk what's your problem with that. Doom 3 was also a very nice game and Quake 2 as well. The older games were quiet simple in terms of gameplay, run&gun, you can't seriously expect dead simple games like that today.
@iMarklar Not much point debating with you when you're a delusional fanboi.Read about id and the dynamics.Carmack is in control of the development and design of the games. He programs and is great at it but actually designing a game ... he is fucking hopeless.Doom3 was good in parts, looked beautiful but fuck me it got boring.Quake2 was a good single player game but awful multiplayer.Quake3 tried to fix the mess that was Q2 and failed.CPM gave life to Q3 because the people designed it knew better
@bongo155 You are just as biased as I am, no need for insults. Carmack - as he said himself several times - is mainly an engineer and programmer. You got bored on D3, that's nice, I played through it and the expansion like 2-3 times. You are a QW/CPM player as I see so it's normal for you to hate Q2 and Q3. They were both competitive and are still alive, so then again, OPINIONS. I played some CPMA but I didn't like it as much as Q3, call me whatever you want for our different opinions.
@iMarklar You're right,Carmack is an engineer and programmer and thats why id games are always the most technically advanced.Doom 3 was ahead of Half Life 2 technically but HL2 was a superior game because Valve have better designers. It was Romero that was the design brilliance of id.He and Carmack were perfect colleagues and without each other their games have suffered.Q2/Q3 are no more alive than QW and they were inferior products to Q1 evidenced by Q1 players dominating Q2/Q3.
@bongo155 So you're saying he's a bad developer but his games are always the most technically advanced. Developer includes engineering, physics, sound quality, graphics, etc IE technical aspects only. If his game's are badly designed that has nothing to do with him as a developer as design is planning and planning alone (no content development). Besides as much as I love Valve they pretty much have to kiss John Carmack's ass for providing them with the technology needed for their engines.
@TheBlitMaster Carmack is brilliant and some things and not so brilliant at others. Game design involves many different skills and Carmack doesn't possess them all. But who does? I spent the 90's playing id games and loving it and I think games like Doom and Quake should get more credit than they do. But that doesn't mean Carmack doesn't have his shortcomings. He's not a god.
I like his thinking : cut the very minimalistic details out to improve performance , Hardly anybody ever glues his eyes to the screen to look at a LEAF !
@JasionJones Todd Howard is a man who made games that blew people away by the gameplay, innovation and immersion. John Carmack is a man who made games that blew people away by the gameplay, level design, immersion, graphics, speed, sound, adrenalin, innovation and his ability to do what was impossible for others to do. He also flew rockets into space and invented online multiplayer. Both men are gaming legends but John Carmack's list of achievements is simply immeasurable.
@JasionJones Yes but as the leader of the company he makes the decisions. Technically Todd Howard only worked on the design of the game. Not the gameplay, immersion etc. Since game design, much any other form of design is a job that merely includes planning and not execution and since hes only a designer and not a developer he isn't responsible for creating any assets used by the engine at all (models, code etc) and therefore is only responsible for providing paper with words on it.
@TheBlitMaster I'm a video game designer and I don't think it's fair to say that Todd Howard is a designer and not a developer. A developer is someone who 'develops' whatever context the development is in, in this case - games. Design is integral to the entire experience because, in essence, it IS the experience.
A coder drives the engine, an artist makes pretty things which the programmers render on-screen. If that's all there was, we'd have 3D, high-poly visual Art. Design is the interaction.
@Zupecki27 Yes but when it comes down to it John Carmack knows everything that goes on in his projects. Every interview I've seen with him he seems to know his field, but, when it comes to technicals he doesn't seem to know anything that actually goes on. He is a legend but he is nowhere near the god that John Carmack is. Design is planning much like I said. It's pieces of paper that have the game done in thought but until it's implemented by developers thought is all it ends up being.
@JasionJones Yes I've seen those, so. Its his job to do so. Thing is, he doesn't know the limits to his engines half the time. John Carmack knows what his limits are as well as the limits to others. He is a man who could design an engine from scratch in SH4 Assembly with the thought in his head that his multiplayer only shooter could be done on the Dreamcast and be right. But he would also have it in his head that the engine wouldn't be able to add certain features and be right.
@JasionJones Never said he didn't. I did repeatedly say he was a legend did I not. But I also said that John Carmack was better. He also has written many inspirational quotes whereas Todd hasn't any yet. They are both great men in their own rights. But when it comes down to it The Elder Scrolls would still be nonexistent if it weren't for guys like John Carmack inventing or reinventing the mathematical algorithms required to do so.
Before I even got to the part of the video where John drops that line, I just assumed your comment was regarding the secondary reflection in his glasses and you wanted to make a sarcastic reference to his techie ways =)

@iMarklar Shouldn't you be playing Call of Duty? I suppose one less retarded, rude, obnoxious cunt kid playing wont be noticed.

I like his thinking : cut the very minimalistic details out to improve performance , Hardly anybody ever glues his eyes to the screen to look at a LEAF !

I think John Carmack has discovered how to eliminate aging.
I mean being a rocket scientist and a legendary programmer, who knows what hes capable of...
... either way, it would appear as if he doesnt age!

Todd Howard > John Carmack
JasionJones 7 months ago
@JasionJones Todd Howard is a man who made games that blew people away by the gameplay, innovation and immersion. John Carmack is a man who made games that blew people away by the gameplay, level design, immersion, graphics, speed, sound, adrenalin, innovation and his ability to do what was impossible for others to do. He also flew rockets into space and invented online multiplayer. Both men are gaming legends but John Carmack's list of achievements is simply immeasurable.
TheBlitMaster 7 months ago
@TheBlitMaster John only works on the engine and code not the gameplay, immersion, level designm ect.
JasionJones 7 months ago
@JasionJones Yes but as the leader of the company he makes the decisions. Technically Todd Howard only worked on the design of the game. Not the gameplay, immersion etc. Since game design, much any other form of design is a job that merely includes planning and not execution and since hes only a designer and not a developer he isn't responsible for creating any assets used by the engine at all (models, code etc) and therefore is only responsible for providing paper with words on it.
TheBlitMaster 7 months ago
@TheBlitMaster I'm a video game designer and I don't think it's fair to say that Todd Howard is a designer and not a developer. A developer is someone who 'develops' whatever context the development is in, in this case - games. Design is integral to the entire experience because, in essence, it IS the experience.
A coder drives the engine, an artist makes pretty things which the programmers render on-screen. If that's all there was, we'd have 3D, high-poly visual Art. Design is the interaction.
Zupecki27 7 months ago
@Zupecki27 Yes but when it comes down to it John Carmack knows everything that goes on in his projects. Every interview I've seen with him he seems to know his field, but, when it comes to technicals he doesn't seem to know anything that actually goes on. He is a legend but he is nowhere near the god that John Carmack is. Design is planning much like I said. It's pieces of paper that have the game done in thought but until it's implemented by developers thought is all it ends up being.
TheBlitMaster 7 months ago
@TheBlitMaster Todd makes decisions too. Watch the making of Oblivion and Fallout 3 to see what I'm talking about.
JasionJones 7 months ago
@JasionJones Yes I've seen those, so. Its his job to do so. Thing is, he doesn't know the limits to his engines half the time. John Carmack knows what his limits are as well as the limits to others. He is a man who could design an engine from scratch in SH4 Assembly with the thought in his head that his multiplayer only shooter could be done on the Dreamcast and be right. But he would also have it in his head that the engine wouldn't be able to add certain features and be right.
TheBlitMaster 7 months ago
@TheBlitMaster Who cares. In my Opinion Todd is better in his own ways. Todd has such great ideas for his games.
JasionJones 7 months ago
@JasionJones Never said he didn't. I did repeatedly say he was a legend did I not. But I also said that John Carmack was better. He also has written many inspirational quotes whereas Todd hasn't any yet. They are both great men in their own rights. But when it comes down to it The Elder Scrolls would still be nonexistent if it weren't for guys like John Carmack inventing or reinventing the mathematical algorithms required to do so.

@Rachman1337 No a genius is someone who has an intelligence quota measurably by humanity. When it comes to science Carmack is not a genius but a god.
