Really? This is a great example of a home owner repair FAIL! Did you even read the manual that came with the pump? Perhaps your best option at this point would be to purchase and install every pump out there until you find one that works the way you think it should work. Once you end up in the poor house someone else will come in and fix your mistakes.

That's the way Zoeller pumps work. They automatically prevent hydro lock by shooting a stream of water back into the pit. 99% of the water is expelled. I think you need to read the manual. Zoeller makes the best pumps on the market and have saved my home many, many times.
I think the Smurfs on you PJ's must have installed that pump.

Guess you were also too dumb to know that a check valve is needed.
