I lived in China, shi xia jhong. And I know first hand the majority of the country is dirt dirt poor. I explored back alleys and outskirts of the city and witnessed people who live in mud huts or tin shantys with no water and stolen electric from nearby larger buildings. No food. while just one street over the rich shopped and glutted themselves. They will step over a dieing man on the street to get their fake prada shoes. And the animal abuse!!

you seem to be miss-informed. 400 million people have been lifted out of the most abject misery within 20 years and are on their way or already are middle-class. that's by any standard a bloody amazing achievement the likes of which have not been seen anywhere. And there are already signs of rapid economic development happening in the poorer inner provinces as a result of intra-sourcing. Yeah, there are still millions of people living under poverty line in China, but the figure was tens of millions just 5 or 10 years ago.

As a young country, I think China did a decent job in helping its poverty population out of misery.
