microsoft cleaned up their act with all their vista shit, I ordered Windows 7 from Microsoft so that i could download it and install it right away. Not only did i get the download, they also, for no charge, sent me 32 and 64bit install DVDs! They know what their doing now lol
I thought you can buy a 64-bit DVD at the store too. I remember at Wal-Mart they were selling a Windows Vista Ultimate. It said that it had 32-bit and 64-bit software.
I dont know. Why go windows at all. You only really need it if youre gaming. Though I think there are games for Linux. But the main thing is, youre gonna pay not once for a MS product. They will makke it miss something that you THINK is with it, but is not. And then you will have to pay for that extra. Which is not extra in reality, it should have been built in.
Microsoft are lying, faking and trying to trick people, everything in the book.

Try out Linux. They do not lie... and it is free as well
I don't even need to buy a 64-bit processor my processor is compatible with both 32-bit and 64-bit os. That's why i'm upgrading my ram to about 6 gb and going to a 64-bit os because i only have a 32-bit processor and 3gb of ram. and thats just to slow for what I do so it'll take awhile but well worth it. I also might swap my processor for one that's about equal to 3ghz because mine is only 2.20ghz im on a laptop btw.
@ElitexSn1perx I thought all 64 bit computers CAN run 32 bit Operating Systems! I think its not the 32 bit which made his computer crash, its a hardware issue.
@judenihalmusic thats sorta true. All 64 bit processors can run a 32 bit os but a 32bit processor can't run a 64 bit os. But I guess you prob knew that. But the thing is you can't downgrade to a 32-bit. So you may have a 64-bit processor but only have a 32 bit os. you can then upgrade but if you don't like it you can't switch back.
@votshtoyalyoobloo then it'll be really expensive. home premium is best for everyone exept power users. i mean, who's gonna pay £300 for a bunch of features they arent going to use
Microsoft obviously work under the assumption, anyone buying Vista Home Premium wont require a 64-Bit version. I actually purchased Vista Ultimate and had both CDs in the package 32+64bit. I also found, all other versions on the CDs too. Even more amazing, there is no price difference between 32/64-bit OS, so why ship laptops/computers with 3.5+GB RAM with a damn 32-bit OS that should be running 64-bit! WTF. Had no issues with Vista, but upgraded to Win7 Ultimate anyway.

You claim that 64 bit sucks and guess what? That's the dumbest comment I've heard this month. But hey, what I would know, I'm only a professional system/network engineer since '87.
so true so true. i gues the unly bad point of why my version sucks (windows xp pro 64) it takes forever to log in (1.30 min) dunno why though. 32 bit took 7 secs to log in. they are both from fresh installs though. but i dont care as its way more than worth it in peformance
You are talking about "log in", so I assume that you don't mean booting, in that case... 1:30 min? You aren't kidding, right?
Why don't you check your logs, why not create a boot log, disable programs and services that start up during boot/login to locate the issue? Also run a driver verifier (Google it).
Sitting there and thinking what it could be is not going to help you. Microsoft has tons of tools and procedures to solve such issues, it's up to you to use them. I would never for one day settle with 1:30 logon time, never.
I've been using Vista X64 since 2 years now, after SP1 it's absolutely rock solid, whether it's with video editors, games or applications like Vmware. No compatibility issues, zero. People who have issues with Vista, especially X64, simply have no clue what they are doing, which is often confirmed by their actions or words, I know, because Im a system/network engineer/programmer for over 21 years.
The problem nowadays is that most people who manage to build a computer already proclaim to be an expert, when all they basically do is connecting 6 or more components...go figure.
Everybody who owns a computer seems to be an expert hehe, like that dodo claiming that 64 bit sucks. All those false claims and advices that are spread by those people... often Im close to crying.
The people who do need help, get the wrong answers and waste time and money on the wrong hard -and software.
Me and my GF had a good laugh at this. I walked into a local computer store yesterday and bought a 64-bit Vista Home Premium disk yesterday. I just made sure I read the box first. 32-bit OS will also work fine on a 64-bit processor. His crash has nothing to do with his rant. He does not know the difference and probably installed the wrong drivers, etc. Let this be a lesson to people who don't know how computers work; get someone who knows what they're doing to purchase your upgrade.
It says it requires a 64-bit OR a 32-bit processor, not just a 64-bit. It doesn't matter if you run 32-bit windows on your system unless you have more then 4 GB of ram. Maybe you should know what you're doing before you spend $160 on something.
You are a complete moron. You are wasting the oxygen that people with an actual IQ could be breathing. Anyone with 1 active brain cell already knew all of this. Why did you feel the need to whine here? Tell me this dumbass, WHERE on the box did it say it WAS the 64-bit version? PS: I got a 64-bit disk for the price of shipping. PPS: Your baby is crying because it cannot believe it shares DNA with you.
He is only blaming MS. He's not blaming the store he bought it from because "they thought it contained 64 bit version", sounds like a great place that doesn't know 100% what frigin version they are selling their customers. He also probably didn't read that there is somewhere else on the box, i think its the bottom right or left hand corner which says what bit version it is. It talks about 64 bit and need for 64 bit processor if you want to upgrade to 64 bit version later on. User ID10T error
you sir should not be allowed near computers this is the dumbest crap i have every heard you read the system req 32 and 64 bit cpu the os you bought is only 32 bit you dumb ass. i hate when people stupid mistakes and then blame ms ya right stay away from computer. and your kid is crying cause even he knows the answer god help me.
Umm.... well..... I may have a different version of Windows but... using a 64-bit processor with a 32-bit OS is fine. My version of XP is 32-bit and I use a Core 2 Duo. Core 2 Duo = 64-bit. You can use a 32-bit OS on a 64-bit processor! Windows Vista shouldn't be any different!
Did it say 64 bit on the FRONT OF THE BOX? Cause you know they sell them that way. THEY SAY IT ON THE FRONT OF THE BOX. CLEAR AS ALL HELL. I laugh and point.
You can download Ubuntu Linux 9.04 for free, a free OS, that is quite a bit more secure and stable than Windows, and it will use a lot less resources, and it comes with all the other software that the average computer user will use at the same time.
I like Ubuntu, Ubuntu is really cool. But it runs too bad on my hardware. The hardware isn't old, I have an Intel Core 2 Duo 4400, 4 Gig RAM, and an Geforce 8800 GT, but ubuntu runs too slow and is very unstable. Kubuntu with KDE 3 runs a bit better, but it's better in the moment to use Windows XP or Vista
It says it RIGHT ON THE BOX, HOW IS THAT MISLEADING?
The SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS are exactly that, SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS. It says it's ok to have a 32bit or 64bit PROCESSOR. RUNNING A 32 BIT OS WILL NOT CAUSE A CRASH ON A 64BIT PROCESSOR, YOU ARE FUCKING STUPID
I personally could never buy a PC with OS X, for one, its even worse than Windows, and Windows has a wider range of support, since MS reaches out to companies, and God forbid you report a problem to Apple, they will chew your head off.
just look up a torrent for the the iso of a 64 bit software DVD and download the torrent, then use it to download the file, burn the iso to the DVD, and you officially have a 64 bit DVD. The license key that comes with the 32 bit DVD will work just fine with a 64 bit DVD
ok you call him a dumb ass for complaining, but he's got a point it should be in BIG LETTERS 32 OR 64 BIT, we are not all suspicious lawyer minded types who search through the small print, some of us like to believe companies that make billions wont need to con us to make money. robbing ba***rds
A few comments below me, "natedawg", made an interesting comment that you should read the requirements. Why would they make two different boxes? The copies of vista that I've seen have both disks in the same box. I'll give three stars for your effort on the video though.
Home premium is not necessarily 64 bit. But Windows XP & Vista ultimate is. I know this because I looked at what they were offering for days before I realized only the black Ultimate version was exactly the 64 bit version. Hell, I didn't even know you could download the 64 bit version online if you had the premium version license. I was going to spend the $186.00 dollars for the ultimate, but maybe now I'll just pay the $123.00 or so for the premium version & download the 64 bit.
dude i know waat u mean but i bought my computer last year with vista installed alredy and i have nvida i have 64 bit and i cant get my ps3 controller to work and i dont know how to change to 32bit
READ THE DAMN BOX BEFORE YOU BUY IT!... You can buy 32bit box and 64bit box! THEY make 2 because not everyone has 64bit processor, and it would cost extra shipping 2 versions in a box!
The box says its COMPATIBLE with 64 bit processors, nowhere does it say that you own a 64 bit version. And you can download the 64 bit version for free with the license, the only reason you would order a copy for 10 bucks is if you don't have an internet connection. Just download it and burn your own DVD, but then you would probably complain about the DVD cost and time spent.
PEOPLE AS DUMB AS YOU ARE NOT MEANT TO RUN 64 BIT OPERATING SYSTEMS.
So if I try to install a 32-bit OS on a 64 bit processor my computers pull a blue screen on me or is his a problem with your computer? Or did no blue screen appear and you realized while using the computer that Vista was the 32 bit version and not 64 bit?
....the processor is different from the OS! A 32 bit processor is DIFFERENT from a 32 bit operating system. seriously. you ARE an idiot. i'm sorry but no offense.
I pray that XP returns, Vista is so gay, one day I will rebel against Vista and force Microsoft to brign back XP WHOS WITH ME SAY VISTA SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
1. takes up too much system resourses to run it's gay ass interface graphics and all the shit services you dont need
2. they thought that it's such a good idea to hide the file, edit, view.and so on bar and what the fuck did they do to the address bar?
3. half of my stuf wont run on that thing
4. like that other guy said, it's too secure, i allways have to run stuff as admin and everytime i run something the confiramtion window pops up and that is just anoying
5. vista still needs a lot of work to be done on it, it's far from being finished
6. they are showing it down our throats every way they can
7. more annoying lamer friendly wizards and shit like that that only makes it more dificult to use it instead of making it easy
8. in conclusion, it takes too much resourses to do everything that win xp or even 2k can do better with less resourses, it's not a revolutionary new OS, it's just xp with a shiny new skin and nothing can justify it's problems
this happened because you bought the 32 bit edition. it says it works with 64 and 32 because it does. the issue you had was clearly to do with something else.
You're an idiot. "System Requirements" don't imply what type of operating system you are getting. It is just letting you know which processors work with the software you purchased. 32 bit or 64 bit.
also: if you choose to get windows vista, i highly recommend just getting it preinstalled on a brand new computer so you dont have to go through the whole hassle of buying it. wayy more easier.
You have a 64-bit processor, your 64-bit processor supports 32-bit software; so therefore, ITS NOT MISLEADING. You're just a dumbfuck. If you have enough of a brain to NEED a 64-bit processor, you would KNOW that a 64-bit windows OS cannot fit on a CD, you need a DVD. I think that would be pretty obvious. -.-
HAHAHA, man the way he said what the fuck was priceless, but you have to think, does anyone find the system requirements to be crazy, the funny thing is you need more power then that for it to really run well. Vista was a joke what the hell was microsoft thinking? god just let apple make the next windows and call it a day.
I suppose your idea of an "upgrade" is an overpriced Macintosh correct?
What does Mac have that PC can't do better? Hmm? Answer me that...Mac's can't play games, they take all that expensive hardware required to run it to shame...
OOOH LINUX, THE WORST FUCKING OS ON THE MARKET! It's SO shitty, we're giving it away for FREE! :D
Why install your own next gen, super sexy games when you can play games like *insert CS knock-off here* which is JUST BARELY running because we still haven't figured out how to render 3D graphics yet :D
noob huh? Try to play a game on even install a game on Linux...You can't. BUT you CAN play the games that are installed stock, which are horrible...Linux can barely render 3D graphics dude, go fucking look it up. Or since you claim you use Linux, go ahead, make a vid of those shitty games you got.
The only reason Microsoft is still alive is because it is still to some degree a monopoly on the market, and it can get away with making crap software. Linux is a freeware, designed by people for people, it may lack certain features but it works damn well for what I use it for, which is software development, not games.
Crap software? I can get free software for windows that works and is easier to use than anything Ive seen on linux. Linux is only good for server side stuff and some programming, not personal use. Only geeks and pseudo-geeks endorse linux as a viable alternative to personal home computing against easier to use and much more user friendly Apple or Windows.
man, everyone who is on vista is going to upgrade to 7. even people like me who don't have a clue about windows 7. I mean, nothing can be worse than vista:)
I hate vista I downgraded back to xp from a Native vista comp...My computer was a very very fast gaming computer with vista....Its about 10x faster with xp...How many rants will it take microsoft to make a Good OS?The world may never know.
why do you guys want the 64 bit version of vista? It came with a new laptop i bought and I think it sucks because so many other things are not compatible with it.
So you paid for the 64bit vista and got the 32bit in the 64bit box? WTF! I would have taken it back to frys and if they wouldn't take it back I would have drove to Microsoft and asked for a refund or to replace that vista with the 64 bit. I live about 40 miles from Microsoft so thats a small trip for me. If you pay for something then they can't charge you extra to get what you paid for.
lol i had the same problem, i clicked windows vista buy now on the microsoft site, then when i got it, it was 32bit, WHAT THE FUCK! so i had to buy the 64bit version seperatly, for about £3 hahaha what noobs.
You, my friend, don't know what you're talking about.
"32 or 64 bit" means it'll run on either. 64 bit software will NEVER run on a 32 bit machine. Since it is compatible with 32 bit CPUs, the SOFTWARE MUST BE 32 BIT.
As with most who complain about Vista, you're making a point out of your own user error.
Do I use Vista? No.
Why not? I don't like it.
Instead of complaining, I opted for XP Pro, which as a 32 bit OS may be crippling my 64 bit computer, but at least I have no complaints.
The Moral of the story is Leopard for Mac OS X is only $129 and there's only ONE version of it to choose from. I hate computers. So much. But I'm addicted.
Lol,a pregnant woman from the 70s in a field. I agree completely, if Microsoft weren't so cheap about stuff like this, not as many people would turn to torrents and they would probably make even more money.
I believe the Morale of the Story is that Vista Sucks. I want 64 bit Operating System and can't figure out how.

Still waiting for bvestationfan to explain why 64 bit sucks... why do I sense that this brainless big-mouth noob won't return....
sblff 2 years ago
so true so true. i gues the unly bad point of why my version sucks (windows xp pro 64) it takes forever to log in (1.30 min) dunno why though. 32 bit took 7 secs to log in. they are both from fresh installs though. but i dont care as its way more than worth it in peformance
DavidPlim 2 years ago
You are talking about "log in", so I assume that you don't mean booting, in that case... 1:30 min? You aren't kidding, right?
Why don't you check your logs, why not create a boot log, disable programs and services that start up during boot/login to locate the issue? Also run a driver verifier (Google it).
sblff 2 years ago
from the log in screen to desktop. i dunno why they are both fresh installs with all the drivers and nothing else
DavidPlim 2 years ago

The people who do need help, get the wrong answers and waste time and money on the wrong hard -and software.

u can get up to 16TB ram for 64 bit but 64 bit windows vista ultimate can only hold 128 GB RAM

MasterDayve 2 years ago

Umm.... well..... I may have a different version of Windows but... using a 64-bit processor with a 32-bit OS is fine. My version of XP is 32-bit and I use a Core 2 Duo. Core 2 Duo = 64-bit. You can use a 32-bit OS on a 64-bit processor! Windows Vista shouldn't be any different!

dexarouskies 2 years ago
You can download Ubuntu Linux 9.04 for free, a free OS, that is quite a bit more secure and stable than Windows, and it will use a lot less resources, and it comes with all the other software that the average computer user will use at the same time.

I like Ubuntu, Ubuntu is really cool. But it runs too bad on my hardware. The hardware isn't old, I have an Intel Core 2 Duo 4400, 4 Gig RAM, and an Geforce 8800 GT, but ubuntu runs too slow and is very unstable. Kubuntu with KDE 3 runs a bit better, but it's better in the moment to use Windows XP or Vista

just look up a torrent for the the iso of a 64 bit software DVD and download the torrent, then use it to download the file, burn the iso to the DVD, and you officially have a 64 bit DVD. The license key that comes with the 32 bit DVD will work just fine with a 64 bit DVD

A few comments below me, "natedawg", made an interesting comment that you should read the requirements. Why would they make two different boxes? The copies of vista that I've seen have both disks in the same box. I'll give three stars for your effort on the video though.
2BunnyReturns 2 years ago
Home premium is not necessarily 64 bit. But Windows XP & Vista ultimate is. I know this because I looked at what they were offering for days before I realized only the black Ultimate version was exactly the 64 bit version. Hell, I didn't even know you could download the 64 bit version online if you had the premium version license. I was going to spend the $186.00 dollars for the ultimate, but maybe now I'll just pay the $123.00 or so for the premium version & download the 64 bit.

READ THE DAMN BOX BEFORE YOU BUY IT!... You can buy 32bit box and 64bit box! THEY make 2 because not everyone has 64bit processor, and it would cost extra shipping 2 versions in a box!
aiyoriaoshi 2 years ago
The box says its COMPATIBLE with 64 bit processors, nowhere does it say that you own a 64 bit version. And you can download the 64 bit version for free with the license, the only reason you would order a copy for 10 bucks is if you don't have an internet connection. Just download it and burn your own DVD, but then you would probably complain about the DVD cost and time spent.

1st WONT GIVE ME FRIGGIN AEROTHOUGH MY COMP CAN SUPPORT IT
2: XP has an easier to navigate interface
3: XP has a startup logo, whereas Vista has a line
4.All of Vista's Feautures can be imitated on XP without the crapiness
5. Theres this gay ass tracker recording everything u do
6. It's too secure
7: The XP shutoff button has turned to standby, annoying me
8. I have known from personal exprience, I have run 95 98 ME XP and Vista, Vista is crappiest, XP is best! VISTA SUKS MORE THAN NYTHIN
yappers1 2 years ago
this is a resonse to your stupid reasons
1st. if you graphics card could support it then it would
2. vista navigition is the same as xp with some difference with explorer, but not really that difficult
3. you can change the start logo in vista
4. aero can't be imitated and many other features cant
5. wtf?
6. you want a less secure os
7. your gay
8. vista is the best maybe you should do some research you stupid dumb fuck
addiscreation40 2 years ago
here are sum better reasons
1. takes up too much system resourses to run it's gay ass interface graphics and all the shit services you dont need
2. they thought that it's such a good idea to hide the file, edit, view.and so on bar and what the fuck did they do to the address bar?
3. half of my stuf wont run on that thing
4. like that other guy said, it's too secure, i allways have to run stuff as admin and everytime i run something the confiramtion window pops up and that is just anoying
to be co

you know you can change all that with just a couple of clicks and OMG it's as fast as XP OMG!!!
SPRSniper 2 years ago
5. vista still needs a lot of work to be done on it, it's far from being finished
6. they are showing it down our throats every way they can
7. more annoying lamer friendly wizards and shit like that that only makes it more dificult to use it instead of making it easy
8. in conclusion, it takes too much resourses to do everything that win xp or even 2k can do better with less resourses, it's not a revolutionary new OS, it's just xp with a shiny new skin and nothing can justify it's problems
gameexe 2 years ago

You're an idiot. "System Requirements" don't imply what type of operating system you are getting. It is just letting you know which processors work with the software you purchased. 32 bit or 64 bit.

why even spend 120 bucks for vista its called piracy plus, its 10 bucks chill the fuck out
Xsniper7895 2 years ago
You have a 64-bit processor, your 64-bit processor supports 32-bit software; so therefore, ITS NOT MISLEADING. You're just a dumbfuck. If you have enough of a brain to NEED a 64-bit processor, you would KNOW that a 64-bit windows OS cannot fit on a CD, you need a DVD. I think that would be pretty obvious. -.-
Coatchawa 2 years ago 2
HAHAHA, man the way he said what the fuck was priceless, but you have to think, does anyone find the system requirements to be crazy, the funny thing is you need more power then that for it to really run well. tswan0104 2 years ago 2
Want games? Get a PS3.
The only reason Microsoft is still alive is because it is still to some degree a monopoly on the market, and it can get away with making crap software. Linux is a freeware, designed by people for people, it may lack certain features but it works damn well for what I use it for, which is software development, not games.
theNISK 2 years ago
Crap software? I can get free software for windows that works and is easier to use than anything Ive seen on linux. Linux is only good for server side stuff and some programming, not personal use. Only geeks and pseudo-geeks endorse linux as a viable alternative to personal home computing against easier to use and much more user friendly Apple or Windows.
I use linux, but not as much as Windows.

Microsoft did nothing wrong, if you wanted a 64 bits you HAD to look for it.
32x runs on both 32 and 64 that is why is the minimum requirements
just in case people don't know about computers they do NOT use the 64x bits so people wouldn't confuse.
32 works for both, if you were a bit smarter you should have known that already.

If you pay for something then they can't charge you extra to get what you paid for.

lukealderton19 3 years ago
You, my friend, don't know what you're talking about.
"32 or 64 bit" means it'll run on either. 64 bit software will NEVER run on a 32 bit machine. Since it is compatible with 32 bit CPUs, the SOFTWARE MUST BE 32 BIT.
As with most who complain about Vista, you're making a point out of your own user error.
Do I use Vista? No.
Why not? I don't like it.
Instead of complaining, I opted for XP Pro, which as a 32 bit OS may be crippling my 64 bit computer, but at least I have no complaints.
