coolest version of frankenstein's monster ever! this game looks so freakin cool, it's like a cryback to Castlevania 1 mode of play, but done right. I wonder if there is a hard mode with more enemies and harder enemy placement....but even if there isn't, this still looks pretty cool.
@GrandMasterTemphis There IS a Hard Mode, with the exact features you just mentioned. >ω< The Hard Mode also removes platforms and other supporting objects.
It is quite interesting that they used Symphony of The Night's background textures from the Library in the first indoor part of the stage. (Brown marble background, etc)
Doesn't look bad though, and I don't really mind..considering all the new awesome sprites they added into this game!
Over all I think this game is fairly easy in some parts and more challenging once you get to stage 4 and 5. Everyone out there I talk to wants a Remake of Dracula's Curse. It was interesting that this one was made first. Which seems to take place 100 years after the third game.
But I am glad that Christopher who seemed forgotten comes back and kicks butt. Also the music definitely brings back the good old days.
Well A remake of CV3 would be great, but to make it truly astounishing, they'd have to make it in a Castletroid/Metroidvania style.
Keep all the places from the original game and put them in as different areas connected, and ofcourse. Encounters with the cast at different places. And please oh god, a reference to Sonya somewhere...
They were probably disapointed in the way Adventure came out as it is usually refered to as the worst Castlevania. They probably didn't want the game to be closed as a bad game. So they kind of balanced it out with this.
This looks much much better than the original game. But since that one (due to a poor grasp of the gameboy's technical limitations by the developers) was without doubt the worst game in the series that's not saying a lot.
It's a shame they swapped the actual Castle-looking Castle look of the pre-Symphony games to the now (after 7 Metroidvanias) generic looking SOTN style. Which makes the game look like it's been made from pre-existing material. (Not saying it is, just that it looks that way.)
PS- not that I'm saying the game looks bad. Hard to tell from this video really. Have doubts but I look forward to eventually playing it and finding out for myself.
The audio emulation is actually based off the old TMNT arcade board, which is what the TMNT and Gradius 3 arcade games used. The Genesis used a stripped down version of this sound hardware. This is a large part of the reason why Konami arcade ports to the Genesis still managed to sound good.
The sound style is sega genesis style with a bit of sunset rider style sound. I like it though, specially this one which tells me "clock tower level" yeaahh, love it! Also was wondering why i wasn't seeing any mutton joints XD
the music is too "techno-ish," yet it is also too "soft?" this is an odd description, considering that techno is known for its abrasiveness. as far as i can tell, the only thing that this sound has in common with techno is that the instruments (aside from the percussive ones) have no counterparts in "real" instruments.
Love the TMNT 4: Turtles in Time vibe to music. And I find it amusing that the game makers still used some of the sprites for some of the enemies that were used back in Rondo of Blood and Symphony of the Nights.
Also...
Who the hell was that mid-boss anyway? "Monkinstein"?
Nearidley has the right idea. The music in all of the Rebirth games thus far has been arranged to sound almost exactly the same as Konami's early 90s arcade games (which Akumajou Dracula X68k sounded similar to). Listen to Gradius III AC, Turtles in Time and Sunset Riders, etc.
That´s right. You can show this kind of music to anybody who's into videogames and they will probably say... Oh! That kind of sound... This must be from Konami.

The gameplay looks great, but something about the redone pseudo 16 bit music bothers me. It sounds too much like megaman / cybernator, styled music, instead of a med-evil Castlevania score. They got the melodies and the tunes correct, but the wrong sound and flavour.
Just search soundtracks for "super castlevania" from SNES on youtube, and you'll see the stark contrast.
Are you insane this game took all the best tunes from the other castlevanias it doesn't matter if it doesn't sound "organic" but cyber is just fine when the tunes are there
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Well, the whole point I was making is it DOES matter. It sounds to techno-ish and cyber-ish. Like a namco racing game from PSX, or cybernator, or Metal Warriors, or any of those games. It doesn't fit Castlevania's style.
There's a reason why Super Castelvania (4) won an award for it's musical score back in the 90's.
It's like you've never heard the NES soundtracks to any of the Castlevanias and rely simply on Super Casltevania's. It sounds fine considering it's going back to old school; it fits perfectly.

This is not an 8 bit soundtarck. Nor does it sound like anything from the first 3 castlevania's either. Like I said, the melodies are there, but it's like a cutesy anime remix to all the old songs.
I mention castelvania 4 because it was 16 bit (which this is "mimicing" with it's oldschool polish), and had one of the best soundtracks from the original series.
Listen to the music without actually watching the video... completely fails on capturing the mood of a real Castlevania.
ust bougth this yesterday for my birthday, THIS STAGE KICKED MY ASS! But kept going because of the music ;-;

You know, he should have carried a door with him all the time, so in case of emergency, he could open it, killing all the enemies onscreen.
