oh yeah... dont forget it has 10 airbags standard.. yes 10 airbags. That is far best in class.. Oh yeah it gets better gas mileage as well. Looks like the asian auto makers have now become the US Automakers B I T C H... just to put it mildly. We were complacent for years and lost to the Asian automakers and now seems they are suffering the same fate. US Automakers outsold imports last year and the first 1/4 of 2011 for the first time in 17 years.  Facts do not lie... :)

Price tag? Price tag nothin'. You're not paying more than you would for a comparable Civic in most cases, and you're getting more for it. Do some build-and-price comparisons. Fully-loaded 2LT RS: ~$400 less vs. Civic EX-S. Fully-loaded LTZ RS: ~$2,700 less vs. Civic EX-L w/ SatNav. Only the fully-loaded LS M/T costs more than its comparable Civic DX M/T (by ~$600), but you get more for that extra cost. OnStar, 10 airbags, BlueTooth and USB! Stuff you won't find in a Civic DX.

@SuperSportSS- I do like the handling of the Cruze but the brakes are a little mushy the so called "great" quality of materials is not that "great". You get your money's worth out of the Corolla and plus some! Assuming you are looking at the Corolla and Cruze. Go for the Corolla S or XRS.

@maniac4gm3 I have test drove the Cruze, the motor makes the ride unsetteling and noisy, Unlike the Corolla, the ride is alot the nicer and quieter than the Cruze. I like the Corolla alot better than the Cruze. The Corolla is more reliable and alot more user friendly.

@sammyvick123 It hasn't been out long enough to see what is more reliable. The reason why they drive similarly is that Chevy and Toyota share platforms. A good example of this is the Pontiac Vibe and Toyota Matrix are very similar because they are built off the same frame and powertrain. The 1.8L in the Cruze is the same as the one in the Corolla for the most part. Chevrolet tweaked theirs to get a few more horsepower. The Cruze does have a stronger suspension. Otherwise they drove the same.

What confuses me is he says about watch for that pricetag, yea its a little higher start price but the Cruze is bigger then Corolla and Civic so you should pay a small price more to get a bigger car. Plus i priced out a Civic how i'd do it and i think it was around $29,000 dollars, including Navi, Cruze i got at 26,975 with all options on LTZ which also has rear park assist that Civic doesn't have. So i'd consider this a viable option for a almost midsize compact car.

The only problem I have with the Cruze is the pricing. Mind you, one can easily get a decently appointed Cruze LS or 1LT for under $20,000 but thats minus the much wanted navigation system which adds over $2400 to the cost of the car because it includes the premium Pioneer audio setup.

Still I may have grit my teeth and get a 1LT with RS package but without the navigation.

@AudiophileTubes The new Jetta has a simpler stability control system, simpler design then the Cruze, rear drum brakes, more plastic bits, and there are only 18 combinations of trim/ equipment there were 148 previous combinations on the old Jetta. They also replaced the Multi-link rear suspension with a torsion beam. VW really took 4 steps backwards with this new Jetta but they were willing to do that so they could compete with the Corolla and Civic more then before.

Nice going GM. The current Civic from 06 gets better MPG in the city and same on the highway. The Corolla gets 2 better in the city and 1 less on the highway.

NOT ONLY THAT but this is with the most fuel efficient engine, meaning its base price is the highest. You need at least 19K to pick up that engine

If you go with the lower engines, the MPG is just disgusting. 22 MPG city??

There is a new Civic for '12 and it should get better than this. And the current Corolla has better city figures. And the 2012 Version coming also should smoke this

I hope this one succeeds. Chevy/Government Motors has a lot riding on it. BTW, I heard the "beat the imports" hype back in 1980 with the Citation. I also hope they come out with a 'SS' version and bring over the Euro 5-door version they a re showing at the Paris Auto Show.
