wow good job man, i dont have nearly as much as you !!! i got goji berries. You should grow them too =) i know you could. I am in zone 3 ! so i cant grow all your stuff. But goji are healthy =) wow
@fatpius thanks. i'm going to try a few tomatoes /peppers in 5 gallon buckets and probably build some raised beds from scrap wood..got some buckets free from the local supermarket bakeries- which were still coated in icing, cleaned em, and they still smell and need another wash/disinfecting...i'll let people know how they do- all heirloom tomatoes...
Love seeing your garden. Keep up the great work! I just wanted to say you have inspired me to put in drip irrigation and create another raised bed. Thanks for the great ideas!
FOOD FREEDOM ALERT if it passes. S 510 would give Monsanto unlimited power over all US seed, food supplements, food and farming.
If accepted [S 510] would preclude the publics right to grow, own, trade, transport, share, feed and eat each and every food that nature makes
. It would remove the right to clean, store and thus own seed in the US, putting control of seeds in the hands of Monsanto and other multinationals, threatening US security
John, I love your enthusiasm and your message is SOOO important. As time goes on, getting people to grow their own food (in whatever capacity they can achieve) becomes more and more vital. It's one of the reasons I started documenting what I do on my channel, because I'm NOT a master gardener, yet I can grow and perserve a lot of my family's food. It definitely can be done!!!
@fatpius -- My husband has fantasies about getting rid of all but a very small square of our lawn with ground covers and other plantings that don't need mowing. I tell him "Go for it!" -- after he finishes all the projects I have for him, of course. ; )
depends on the season. 90% of my vegetables are grown by me. Some days in the summer time, when my fruit trees are ripe, I can eat 99% out of what I grew in that day. On average, its about 40%-50% overall.
This channel and your videos are so great. You've helped me and right now I have a lot of basics growing I never tried before such as leeks, carrots and potatoes. I'm also using your channel to help me with my rhubarb, strawberries, beet-root, red and yellow onions. I'm still a noob but my stuff is growing, and I can appreciate your enthusiasm and love of gardening. I never knew marigolds were edible? Great news... is that all varieties or just some?
I think all varieties of marigolds would be edible. They do not taste the best, but they are high in luteins (good for your eyes). You can buy supplements (for alot of money) that contain lutein made from marigolds.. so why not just eat the flowers!
love what you said about eating pollen from the flowers :) great show. could you do an episode on growing in 5 gallon buckets? is 1 bucket big enough for an heirloom tomato plant?
i can never eat leaves straight from my garden without closely inspecting it, there's usually a bug or some egg on the underside of the leaves.
hey john, because of your videos, i'm successfully growing a garden. right now i trying out EM, effective microorganisms. I'm also trying to make bokashi for composting. if your familiar with these topics maybe you could do a video. and if your not familiar, you'd probably be very interested.
great! I have looked into EM before, but had a bad experience with the company that distributes it in the USA. I do believe in the stuff, and would do a show on it, if it were not for the "bad taste left in my mouth" from the company that imports it.
was a long time ago... when they first started selling in the USA. basically, the company screwed up my order. I emailed them and told them of the screw up. Evidently the rep forwarded my email to another rep (and accidently CCed me) and telling the other rep slandering me due to my request to make my order right. I probably saved the email somewhere. I thought the stuff was imported (?)
I was out today and could not find rock dust. I am just planting tomato's and peppers this year.Would plant more but working on a edible lawn right now.
Woohoo...another great video. I'm addicted. I went from tilling a small plot to grow some basic veggies and a few weeks later after discovering your videos I am up to my small 18x19 plot, three 8x2x12" raised beds, one 8x4x12" raised bed, and I am in the process of building a 12x2x12" bed on the side of my house.

- collecting rain water is now illegal in many states
- s510 food safety moderization act of 2010
- if accepted s510 would preclude the publics right to GROW, OWN,
TRADE, TRANSPORT, SHARE, FEED, and EAT EACH and EVERY
FOOD THAT NAT...URE MAKES or that WE can GROW ! ! !
hmmmm do I even have to make a sarcastic remark about this ? ? lol

@wideawake73 how can collecting rian water be illigal? Might as well say that breathing is illigal too!

John-
I am constantly amazed at what you're able to do on so little land. What percentage of the food that you eat do you grow yourself? -Best guesstimate
