i am surprised mazda never bothered to use steam cooling since they freaking engine always had temperature issue .just inject steam in all spark plug area or intake (as close as possible to intake and exaust .
@BboySnakeMaster big differences, one was 2x twin rotors and the other was a triple with a single bolted on, both made very different power figures and different sounds, this one being an earlier model has the radiators back in the car and the 787 has a big one up in the nose piece. the biggest giveaway for me personally is the intake scoop on the roof of this one. still loving the 792 more..
@GKOBE most likely cause he had a to high gear, from what i know the 787 needs high revs to run smoothly....i woulda prolly had a high gear taking it slow aswell tho :P
@thewizardofaz Well, I wouldn't say "restoring it", I'd probably rather say "maintaining it" since as far as I know it didn't need any fixing/repairs/restoration, and secondly, you're wrong about it being the original #55 car. Not only does this car not display the #55 tags, but it's also a 767B, not the 787B, which the original #55 car was...
@thewizardofaz Oops, alright, I'm an ass, apparently Mazda says on their website that the actual #55 car was "restored" as well... so I'll give you that. I just didn't see how they could say that they've restored it, because it's been driven and featured in a bunch of different videos since it's win in 1991, and also since as far as I know it was never wrecked or otherwise in any need of any repairs/ restoration, being immediately removed from actual racing after its win in 1991.
@bradhogan123 driver&car both awesome, N/A rotary power from this wee beasty is awesome, imagine a turbo or a supercharged version! INSANE! maybe you could use another one of these engines as an overdriven supercharger, totally insane! a rotary feeding a rotary, the sound would be magic and the torque mountainous, now imagine this: eight rotors + an eight rotor supercharger, sling it in a top fuel rail, run it on nitro, an hang on!!! anybody wanna do it? i would if the finances were available!
@mtothem1337 another thing its a top fuel rail it isn't really meant to go around corners, just reasonably straight and mighty fast. Im not real familiar with the scene in the usa but current thinking in top fuel in Australia is to almost overpower the track, wheel speed must be kept up to avoid devastating tire shake, so lots of high torque & power, a good downforce/aero package is essential, so you can chase the constant variables. the top Aussies are still spinnin the bags at the finish line
@JordanWallac3 overheating would not be an issue on a top fuel run as the engine run time including burnout would be less than 90 seconds, remember top fuelers' don't have a cooling system as they run solid alloy blocks for strength. i think you would have to use custom solid (no cooling passages) rotary housings for strength. in Australia we have some of the worlds wildest rotary powered drag cars, check out dyson rotary and pac performance for a start. these guys run huge boost & exotic fuels
@wankelsteam Yeah I know. FYI, I live in Australia :). Methanol isn't really an exotic fuel any more, a lot of people run methanol now. When you get to the stage of solid housings, you might as well run 6 spark plugs and use all 3 sides of the rotor haha. (Triple the turbos and supporting mods i.e. fuel and intercooler) and you get almost 3 times the power. Weight would still be the same regarding the rules because it still has the same number of rotors... 3000hp 13B FTW.
@JordanWallac3 yeah be nice, as far as exotic fuels go try this one if your really looking for horsepower but don't really love your engine, TOLULENE, paint thinners in other words, highly corrosive. We used to use this in our ski race boats in the 80s, 350 chev 13:1 comp N/A est. 800+BHP (no one in Australia would let us near their dynos with the thing), it wont cold start on it easy which is a but of a pain so you usually warm up on other fuels first, it also kills oil worse than methanol;)
FUCKING COMMENTER CUNT, SHUT THE FUCK UP. 'Four rotah blah blah' yeah we get the picture LET US HEAR THE FUCKING ENGINE. >:|

@thewizardofaz Aside from regular maintenance/ repair that a car that old would need, simply from age.
