I worked all night in downtown Salem tonight (Halloween 2010), but I did get out long enough to see the Britannica Band play a few songs and record a couple! I hope those that made it to Salem this month all enjoyed your time here.
A note to those coming for Halloween Night 2010. Please come by Hawthorne Blvd (near Salem Common and the Hawthorne Hotel) sometime between 7-10 PM for a live show with my friends from the Britannica Band. You'll find several songs by them on my YouTube profile. They specialize is music from the British Invasion and some original songs like "Don't Burn the Witch". Give them a try!
I'm coming this year! I'm very excited about it. I love that Halloween is really something the whole city gets into there, cause thats just not the case in FL lolz.
Uh, yes it is that bad. There are no major routes that go into downtown Salem. The action is condensed into about 4x6 blocks. less than a square mile. Thousands of people come and need to find parking. There are no major hotel chains with locations in downtown Salem. There are two big hotels, and several smaller bed and breakfasts, all booked up al through October. So, most of the people come from out of towns, clogging the streets severely! Come by TRAIN!
@Lach1234 Ah, Salem willows! All kids are still required to visit there. The pizza place next to the arcade still operates, of course, as does the Chop Suey sandwich shop and popcorn. I remember one man running the pizza shop window grabbing my $5 bill and saying $5 MILLION dollars before making change just about every time. It made a kid feel good to have so much money!
@slip39 I remember one time I wanted to order one slice of pizza. I was angry because I waited 15 min. for it. The next thing I knew, they gave me a medium box of pizza and rang it up for only $5. They were having some special thing going on there, so I was happy. XD
@setustraight Oh, absolutely! The city, as you can see, hires bands and performers to keep things interesting. It is a month long celebration. I'm really looking forward to the next time.
we live 2 hours and 48 minutes from Salem and for 15 years I have been pretty much begging my husband to go up there....I have suspitions it will be this weekend because we are planning on dropping of all the kids at grandmas and when I asked what he had planned and if we could go to Salem, he won't answer me...he just keeps grinning and saying he doesn't know he we're doing yet.
A note to everyone watching. Please visit Salem anytime! It's great at Halloween, of course, but there is plenty to see all year. You can walk the downtown in 30 minutes, but you'll need at least one full day to see the museums and other attractions. Summer is a GREAT time to visit, and you get get here by train, bus or ferry from Boston in under an hour! I've been working in Salem for 2 1/2 years and I like the city more every day.

Lived in Lynn, MA for 15 years. I always went to Salem every weekend, Ioved the place. When I was little we used to go to Salem Willows for pizza. XD
I have never went there on Halloween, I guess I'll regret that now...
