@Smartchoy Using the invis rings enables me to get through some of the required sections much more quickly than without. As for using the wand, you have to kill all three NPCs in the last room before you can use the wand and get the good ending. That's why I did not do it.
I also didn't like how they completely minimalized the dungeons. In number 6 there were upper levels and lower levels, and there was a point in each one. I liked the symbolic meaning behind all the dungeons and all the shrines. I found it very insightful. These games weren't just games for me though, they inspired me.
Played around alot in this game in my childhood but wasnt mature enough to take it seriously and go for the story. My was i suprised when i saw there was an alternative ending, not to mention the satisfaction of seeing things actually getting done in the game :D Me and my friends where contempt just baking bread, robbing people, flying the carpet, making swords and building boats randomly exploring, not to forget when we found the teleport cheats. the memories <3
I disagree, because by that opinion, all you would have to do is die in any game speed run and that is technically the end. Also, getting bad endings in game is generally far more easy than going the good or best ending or at least a proper ending.
yeah. killing the fellowship founders shouldn't have taken more than a couple minutes with glasses swords or death vortex or mass death.
anyway. once you've reached the throne room, you(and any party members) instantly level up to 8, so he could have teleported in/out with moonstones and recall, equip a full team with triple crossbows and just stand back.
Wrong. With out training Those weapons would not have been accurate. Plus I don't believe you are instantly level 8. I have been in that room playing the game normally and still only been level 7.
never completed the game without cheating. mission-critical items kept disappearing, and a few times i forgot i shouldn't fly over that door with the carpet.
anyways, i've tried teleporting in with the cheat map and also with the cheat room. maybe levelled up only once or twice. and everytime i got in the room, everyone went up to level 8! in the original version and with exult.
wow, good thing i just had a load of fun on that game rather than trying to beat it. i loved spending so much time just trying to figure a way to rob britainia's bank and stealing their ship. that and robbing so many other people thoughout that world. just so much damn fun. much memories. all for a shitty ending heh. oh well good times.
yes the story was very interesting and i liked it alot, but i was always side tracked with all the thieving i did in there. i forgot that name of the place where you could gamble, but when i lost i just robbed the place. also killing people and then stuffing then in your bag to have the king of brit rez them is awesome. i did get through most of the story just by fooling around like i did in that game. its the GTA of fantasy games IMO.
I thought Ultima 7 was one of the worst of the series. It completely departs from the theme of the originals. I loved the age of enlightenment, and I didn't like how it departed entirely from the shrines and the virtues. It didn't even really connect with the former games. My favorite was number 6 and 4.
hmmm i thought ultimat 7 was still pretty true to the series... it's true that you're battling evil rather than proving good in 7 but you're still faced with making sacrifice (indeed the finale of the game is a beautiful illustration of that). and it's not just that you're battling the guardian, you're also battling a philosophy of narcissistic and individualistic "personal development" that the fellowship espouses. i thought it was pretty well done.
(the series really lost its way after 7 though... underworld II was a brilliant game but certainly wasn't very ultima, serpent isle seemed confused about the moral status of the avatar and then eight just completely abandoned the series' preoccupation with virtue theory. nine was a mess all over, terrible end to such an incredible series.)
SI is not good for speed running because there are several parts where you have to wait around with your thumb up your ass. Especially in Moonshade and Monk Isle. Plus you have to scour the fucking map for not only the blackrock serpents, but also the serpent gear (earrings, crown, armor, staff, ring), which you need to legitimately progress in the story to acquire. In short, SI has a very convoluted plot that can't be cut through.
@Smartchoy How do you not saw the Hydras? Where you found the caddelitte pieces?

I always get burn in that part, don´t know how do you pass all the fire walls, I just get killed. Always, Exult lags a lot.

God I hated the cube gereator. I always made my party stand outside because it was really annoying have seven people running after you in there.

Don't you have to get the "good ending" to call it a proper speedrun?
Heathenfidel 3 years ago
Nonsense! All that is required is that you finish the game to it's end in my opinion.
qbradq 3 years ago
You're correct. Whether its the good or bad ending is completely up to the user.

Big thumbs down. The beauty of Ultima is as much in its story as it is in its open-ended gameplay.

Just so everyone's clear I'm responding to the bad ending guy, not the speed run. I think the speed run is awesome.
MidgardDragon99 4 years ago
I just finished watching it and, for the record, this is not the "real ending". So you definitely missed out.

There's the ending where you kill everyone and destroy the gate, thwarting the Guardian's plans - all leading to the adventures in Serpent's Isle.
