Why does the speccy have such poor color rules? What is it 2 colors in every 8x8 square? How much ram was dedicated to the video? The C64 had 8kb and used a 4 color on 8x8 and 8 4 color sprites (1/2 res) and it doesn't really suffer from color clash at all and the speccy gets killed with the clash. Some of the games remind me of GB games and use only 2 colors (ironically, they are the best). Is there any good examples of colorful speccy games?
gip.. I remember the adverts.. and not seeing it for aaaaaaaages.hehe.. BUT the c64 one they got John Twiddy in to program it.. amazing coder , behind the expert cart and also the c64 classic last ninja.. I'm sure he's in the industry still probably. he was a legendary programmer at the time. It was a nice game on the c64 though, didn't play the amstrad or speccy one. Used to like it in the arcade, but you couldn't emulate the controllers =/
I remember that with the advert being in the magazines for a year or so. I think they had to bring in another programming team because the game wasn't up to standard. The same technique that Ultimate used to use with ads.
but ultimate were the 2 brothers coding/graphics etc (the Stampers) .. I saw in interviews they apparently had at least 1 of the 3d engine games ready before their 2d stuff and held it back. I thought considering the limits of the c64, zzap (crash , sister mag) gave it not a good rating simply because they hated the arcade version.
Certainly was, there was that, yie ar crappy kung fu 2 that i dicked on, and one other that has gone from the head for sale in boots on the friday afternoon.
Released by imagine, i can only guess that it was pulled from the shelf the next day.
Kind of a speccy legend in my eyes, nearly owned one of the spectrums most elusive tittles... so close.
Course in my eyes, pulling that, how the hell yie ar kung fu 2 got through quailty control is another matter entirely... what crap:)
That´s my FAVOURITE GAME of ZX SPECTRUM. I love this game. When I was 5 years old, i was an addict in this game, ;). But please tell me where i can download the game and the emulator. Thanks
dont think anyone remembers a joypad was made which twisted left and right on the spectrum so you could turn the guns with the joystick cannot remember if it worked with this game or an updated version of this game
dude.. only people like us, from the 80ths can understand the power that those games had in our life, if you try to explain it to a 10 year boy, he can't understand. That was something magic about that LOAD ""
The four minute wait with the blue and yellow stripes moving about and that loading noise. Then the Screen$ would appear as you waited for the game to load and hoping it wouldn't crash. Absolutely brilliant!;)

Playing some of these games after 20 years can be difficult. Don't want to spend hours playing one game so i just use a poke as and where I can. I enjoyed this game at the time but it's oh so sloooow now.
Another spectrum blockbuster this one is very hard never make it to the end...

Horrid, horrid sound.

the sound is almost as painful as the colour scheme; wonder how we survived those games back in the day

Yes 2 colours per 8x8 square. Check Dan Dare III on the speccy for use of colour.
SPINNYFUCK 2 years ago
check also Savage, Astro Marine Corps, Turrican, Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles, Smash TV, Shadow Warriors, R-Type, The Muncher, Karnov

The CPC version came out about 2 years earlier before the Speccy & C64 versions. It was better too.

Yes, I remember that story being used to explain the delay in the Speccy/C64 versions. The original coders simply weren't up to scratch......

this is a good game but that sound effect has aged terribly. sounds like a little kid crying for candy (the grenade sound effect). annoying!
