  • correction.. hole in her dress

  • OMG anyone anyone notice the hole in her shirt (underarm) at 2.57? Lol..

  • I'm surprised at the amount of dislikes and negative comments on this video. I kind of expected more from the followers of TED talks...Anyway, surprised no one pointed out it's Franz, not Frans. Other than that, good video!

  • As a vocal performance major, I really want people to enjoy classical vocal music and opera. TED, please invite some more audience-friendly and talented singers!

  • First I was not sure if I like it or not. Then I listened to the song interpreted by other singers who are not so off on the pronounciation and now I know I like the song but this here sucks. Maybe Miss de Niesen can sing, but she sure as hell can not sing german.

  • If im ever drowning, i want her to breathe into me whilst wearing that dress

  • If there was a "So So" Button I would click it!

  • ah the irony, a none blond, blue eyed arian singing in german, how hitler would roll over in his grave! i love it.

  • If this black chick wants to show how opera is sexy by singing in german, this one is FAIL.

  • absolutely beautiful! if everyone could make the German language sound so good, Germany would have a population problem

  • i could have used some subtitles.

so i... you know... don't miss all of the subtlety?

i mean i have no idea why this is "flirtatious" and i figure it has something to do with every word that i missed (which is all of them)

  • window broke

  • WTF is this? an idea worth spreading?

  • I guess I will have to say it three times before my point enters your thick skull. Taste in music has nothing to do with intelligence. Just becuase you listen to this shit doesnt make you smart. What makes me uncomfortable is having to share this planet with fucktards like yourself.

  • @bakkerrich1979 : Well as long as your uncomfortable then I'm happy.

  • @urouttaurLementdonni fucking brilliant

  • brilliantly executed, but there's a reason you rarely heard about Lehar in music class...

  • i belive that she gives a killer bj with that mouth.

  • she is NOT sexy

  • She has a really big mouth...

  • people in the audience clap anny shit cause its nice to. even when the play is bad.

people cheer at dancing with the stars or some other celebrity gossip big brother shit, doesnt mean its anny good. if you hate dicussing subjectivity then you shouldnt have fucking bother to start in the first place now did you? im entitled to my opinion and im sorry if they disrupt your victorian sence of good manners.

  • Her accent isn't on, but she sings great!

  • altho this type of music is not my thing i think she has an amazing voice.. but the more important and real question is..

is her sex just as good as her singing? *wink* *wink*

  • Excellent! BRAVO!

  • Such stage presence, what a voice! Beautiful, just utterly beautiful.

  • Wow..shes amazing. I dont understand why anyone is complaining. Shes a fantastic classical singer..

  • For those who have not yet developed a taste for opera, please listen to Danielle de Niese and Bruno Lazzeratti perform Vide Cor Meum. Go on... let the emotion overtake you. BE WARNED! It may make you an opera fan in an instant no matter how repulsed you might've been before: watch?v=Zty3SL-8Azg If you like that, listen to it two or three more times and let the emotion sink even deeper. There are plenty, plenty more awaiting your discovery. Great music does a science-minded body good! :)

  • I went to the OPERA and I... (jizzed in my pantz)

  • I really really really tried my best to listen to this fully and all the way through, but I had to turn my volume down after a while.

I'm sure it's fabulous to many people, but this just isnt my thing.

Nevertheless, fantastic piano playing, and your voice is great. (:

  • What the ****

  • WTF

  • Shitty shit song is shitty.

  • her mouth is big enough to hold the piano inside it!

  • is she gonna produce noise the whole video? i thaught htis was popular science stuff on ted, thats why i subscribed. not for some pretentious and tbh unentertaining singing.

  • @86Corvus Which part about Technology Entertainment Design do you not understand? Since when did classical become pretentious?

  • @lord666christoph since she opened her mouth. so which one is it? its not technology nor is it design and sure as fuck its not entertaining.

  • @86Corvus 275 people weren't entertained huh? The audience wanted a little exercise when they stood up clapping their hands? I hate discussing subjectivity, but when you can't even recognize talent and people being entertained in front of your eyes, it really begs the question: did you pay attention? Its one thing to not like something, its another to say no one does.

  • Technology, Entertainment, Design. I liked this entertainment. Maybe people would not hate this so much if Hans Rosling had a graph going on in the background?

  • Meine Lippen, sie küssen so heiss is a great piece of Singspiel... people on YT have no culture

  • German isn't the most romantic sounding language ever....

  • @ZeroToNowhere But of course it is. xD

  • @ZeroToNowhere : Romantic? I thought she was angry at someone.

  • @ZeroToNowhere Yes, reminds me of the nazi party. The good old days... Hitler would have loved this song. Makes me want to kill some jews. A little...

  • am I watching the X Factor? TED is supposed to be discussions of inspiring and interesting stories that can change or shape our society in profound ways, not a fucking talent show

  • @ccssdxdx tEd, E for entertainment.

  • The left brain can't take much of this.

  • 00:15

  • this wasnt technology, it wasnt design, and it sure as hell wasnt entertaining. dislike.

  • Heck, it's that DRESS that's flirtatious!

  • nice dress

  • All the dislikes show how poor peoples' taste is. Oh wait, pop music and shows like American Idol already proved that.

The response to this video isn't really unlike other TED videos. It just makes people's incomprehension more apparent.

  • 204 nerds rather see her naked

  • Please make TED's 1000th video something special, With clips from all letters. t, e and d

  • I can imagine all the haters going:"English or GTFO!!111" :D

  • lets keep the dislike and likes even!!!!!!!

  • Problem is, she can't sing. Well maybe she can, but she's doing it wrong.

  • @guyboy625 she is not doing it the right way for you. Some people think they belong to the elite when they say they like this and for them is probably a good thing and good for their self esteem ;p

  • @rakketakke meh, I just don't like it, it's not to make me feel elite-y

  • @guyboy625 I probably failed with my english. A large part of the who DO like this do it because it makes them feel elite-y. No offense or whatever to you mister guyboy.

  • @rakketakke Oh, I'm sorry. I completely misread your comment, in which case I agree.

  • @rakketakke Really? Talking about elitism on TED? Everything about TED is elite. All the lecturers are top of the line and beyond mediocrity. There is absolutely nothing pop about TED. I also think it funny you understand people's motivations for what they like, let alone met someone who likes classical. You couldn't possibly genuinely like TED with such a simple-minded approach as that. See how I did that? Enjoyable isn't it?

  • @lord666christoph Hmmpf. Nice to hear that you think I'm a funny person :D. Btw thank you very much, because now I have a perfect example of a person who thinks he's better than the other, 'normal', unexceptional people, but all the arrogance you bring with it ruins it so badly that you ended up even below those non-special people. You get my opinion right?

  • @guyboy625 why? what should she do different??

  • @glmiri Good question. I'm not quite sure (for now), but to me it just doesn't sound good. Maybe too pretentious or something?

  • @guyboy625 well, her diction is very good for a non-native, I can understand her better than some german singers. I like her.

  • @glmiri A good friend of mine is a professional classical singer, and she is very careful to learn correct diction in whatever language she's singing, even if the words themselves are learned by rote.

  • @CurtHowland But I must say her lips were never quite so rubbery while singing. =80

  • 0:15

  • I hate opera, its for old people

  • @bobominah try telling that to the thousands of college age students enrolled in various opera training programs around The United States and Europe.

  • @lord666christoph Interesting, I taught its a dying art. After your comment, I closed all my windows, my room door and switch off the lights and start to listen to it. For few seconds it was horrible but after I began to relax and enjoyed it.

  • @bobominah That is true for the United States, but its gaining again. I think it has to do with the fast paced culture. Opera and some classical tells a story, but without the fast pace and explosions, it escapes people. The foreign language doesn't help. In Europe opera is slowly gaining in popularity. Some people sing along with the music at festivals, that sell out. Try listening to Che Gelida Manina, after reading the lyrics and synopsis. Knowing what goes on helps a lot.

  • @lord666christoph I do agree, nowaday we want everything fast. Thanks for the input, I will do as per your suggestion.

  • WHY TALK, WHEN YOU CAN SING???

  • It is what it is but it isn't a TED talk.

  • @William00048 way to go!! i like the spirit^^ thats exactly what i thought too^^

  • @William00048 TED - Technology ENTERTAINMENT Design. TED. This is part of TED.

"TEDTalks is a daily video podcast of the best talks and PERFORMANCES from the TED Conference"

  • @RevyNai I have no view on her performance. Perhaps I should but I don't. If I was there for the day, I might enjoy a little musical interlude, but I wasn't. I enjoy thought provoking talks on a number of issues. This was not a talk nor thought provoking.

  • That audience was waaay off with the clapping

  • How I admire any kind of opera singer. It's a wonderful talent. She sang the aria very well indeed.

  • Only thing not perfect was the intro – as usually. Exclusive left brainers with zero rythm, social or artistic skills seem to be quite trigger happy for the thumb down, while those who get it are too busy appreciating to make use of binary mood expressions.

  • @jadapac43 Do you even know what TED stands for?

    Technology,

    Entertainment,

    Design.

This would fall under the Entertainment purview. Now, you may not find this enjoyable, that's understandable. But music/singing/etc counts as entertainment, thus, is acceptable for a TEDtalk.

  • @jadapac43 It is a forum for art, as the description tells you. Music is art and this is superb. But if you prefer fast food go to Mc Donald's and not to a fine restaurant.

  • @jadapac43 You do know what the E stands for, no?

  • why is this german?

  • @TubeYouwilda

Why is your comment in English?

  • @funincluded

so everybody is able to understand my question...

  • Yeah, here's what I was NOT thinking while watching this:.. "mmm ever so sexy".

  • This is anti-German.

  • @funincluded Germans are nor afrocons.

  • Not quite what I was expecting from the description, but... my word! That was delightful.. and a witty delivery as well. Incredibly beautiful woman with a wonderful voice, who knows how to express both the passion and humor in a piece at the same time. My thanks....

  • I enjoyed this, a lot. Also, it said 'aria' in the title, if you don't like opera you had it coming.

  • i dont get it

  • She's hot, therefore thumbs up :)

  • her mouth movements amaze me!

  • Wow she sang beautifully, and what a beautiful song it was.

  • Don't mind opear so much but... I'd expect more from TED

  • i LIKE opera a lot!!! I gave this a thumbs up... T(Entertainment)D everybody seems to forget that....

  • 0:15

  • im not into opera but that was amazing even ghetto mans like me are open minded to hear out something different

  • Ok, that was really surprising. O_o

Wouldn't call it bad though. Besides, music is also a way of expressing and sharing ideas.

  • German? Accent free? That's interesting, cos I got no idea who she is.

  • if it's TED and it's entertainment, it should be groundbreaking entertainment. opera is antiquated music.

  • TED wouldn't be TED without the entertainment.

    To hell with the dislikes.

  • Love her verbose jewelery.

  • First time I've seen more dislikes than likes for a TED video. Yikes.

  • Singing??? But I was expecting Hans Rosling shooting pie charts out of his rectum.

    Must downvote!

  • Not that I don't like opera music, but I am disappointed. I wanted somebody to talk about flirting ;_;

  • @Mossi1992 it said aria in the title....

  • while i like hte idea that ted gives everyone a chance in their spotlight , i still think there is a reason opera is dead in mainstream... this is it

  • there goes the 6 minutes of my life... geez thanks

  • holy christ, she is good though.

  • Unnecessary.

  • We want science, amazing subjects, jaw dropping content...not a giant mouth sining

  • Culture?!?!?!?!

    how dare they!!!

  • lol, you guys are all like "What?! Good music being uploaded to a channel I subscribe to? I'm so offended!"

  • @tiagoaoa Some people don't think this is good music. And I hope you respect the fact that they can think about it what they like. Met je dogredenen...

  • @tiagoaoa It's not "good" for everyone, people have different tastes. People dislike it because the channel they are subscribed to is generally for talks about meaningful and/or interesting topics, not music.

  • @iHeardYouLiekThem The E in TED stands for Entertainment. Also, the same argument that this is not good music for everyone can be applied to the talks not being "meaningful" for everyone all the time. I'm just implying that it is not a big deal if they post a musical performance instead of a talk from time to time.

  • AH and by the way: technologie ENTERTAINMENT design. Somehow everybody keeps forgetting that.

  • All you people complaining just go fuck off.

Just be thankfull for the high quality channel TED has. Don't act like you are entitled to anything. You all will probably never ever have anything wothwhile to contribute to the world.

  • I'm not quite sure how/why this made it to the youtube channel.

  • Delightful!

  • TED?

  • This is allowed on TED and Jacque Fresco is not?

  • if you understand german, it seems a bit more senseful

  • i bet she gives a killer blowjob

  • This is NOT TED worthy, What the fuck?

  • Meh she is talented but... idk if there wasn't a description underneath telling what it was about i don't think anyone would understand i would be better if she then gave a short talk about her ideas or something, just a little "context"

  • I wish I could sing opera

  • @v10redline I quote the video description: TEDTalks cover these topics as well as science, business, development and the arts. Opera is the arts, and the idea worth spreading is in the same place (description): Can opera be ever-so-slightly sexy? you know... saying that opera isnt this impenetrable high-strung artform that it is infamous for being

  • :( I usually can't stand the vibrato of an opera singer. And sadly, in this case it isn't any different. So what's worth spreading? I don't know, sorry.

4:55 then she sings high, then it stops.

  • Why people don't like music? I don't get it What is not like, I was weary of an awful performance when I first saw all the dislikes. However she was great. Whats wrong I don't get it.

  • "Uhh, Danielle - what happened to your talk on biotechnology?"

    "Biine si no dooooolce viiieeeEEEEE!!!!!"

  • In my eyes I feel sorry for these two clearly very talented musicians to have recieved more dislikes than likes. However due to my own ignorance and unfounded, yet profound dislike for opera I have to vote this down on principle.

Not that I possess huge knowledge on the topic, however, in my expierance a lot of operas have sexual under currents, so I don't agree with the video's description, wheather they succeed in their sexyness or not is different matter.

    In closing I remain flacid.

  • Nobody would call this flirtatious or hot or sexy if the singer was a fat bitch. Unless you're into fatties, then, maybe.

  • i cant get it..where is ted "talks"?

i watch the videos cause i believe that their ideas worth speading.

    this video worth promo...fuck her.

  • opera - the soap opera of times past

  • @jvtwopointzero Because it's LOUD and not worth watching EVERY FUCKING time.

  • i m sure there is an idea in here ... but i don't get a word from what she said

  • @grungerlife TED stands for Technology, ENTERTAINMENT, Design. Can you guess which category this video falls into? Hint; I gave a small hint. Also sometimes ideas can manifest in the form of music.

  • Completely lovely.

  • Danielle is swell, but i want to see more of that hot pianist

  • great voice!

  • I want my $6,000 back.

  • German? Sexy? yeah right.

  • Pretty sexy.

  • everything is good when your high

  • it disheartens me that people can dislike beautiful singing just because it is not thier cup of tea. She sings the aria well and if you dont like opera music, when you realised what it was you could have just not listened rather then ripping into something that has nothing wrong with it.

  • @BananaCluck I agree

  • @BananaCluck people dislike it and they are perfectly entitled to do that, as you are to press the like button.

Personally i thought the singing was good, not great and the aria is by no means a masterpiece. And the syncopated claps in the middle were both unsuited to the piece and slightly out of time in bits.

Not trying to start a flamewar, just saying it is perfectly understandable that people wouldnt like it

  • @HonkeyTonTon She's clapping the offbeat.

  • @Vortex42 thats what syncopated means.

she drifts inbetween the beat and the offbeat at 2:55

  • @HonkeyTonTon Whoopie-shit. I didn't notice her drifting. Still - it's a pretty decent piece... and I say that as someone who is not a fan of Opera at all. This felt a bit more contemporary than some of the stuff you hear... and foibles of this particular live performance aside, it was pretty decent.
