  • Great job with this video

  • Repent and live to get your sins forgiven --forsake all you sins turn to God, practice righteousness to be righteous 1John 3:4. without godly repentance there is no forgive of sins.

  • GO JESUS !

  • This would only be boring to those who unfortunately do not comprehend it's meaning!

  • @ghostdrummer16 I don't know why or how you could say that. Jesus loves you so much, enough that he would die for you! Even if you don't believe it, he still loves you very much and gave everything, his own life so you could be saved. I will be praying for you.

  • @bornagain2day that comment was from a year ago, lol, but thanks for your comment, and i agree with you, i feel quite guilty about that comment now.

  • beautiful pics

  • Did Christ "become" sin for us or was our sin laid upon Him as the Bible says- He bore our sin- He was not sin. Stuart Townend also sings of Christ getting us back to life "again" - We have never had resurrection life before- its not again- its a new regeneration- we must be careful with our worship words we are not singing a different gospel

  • Comment removed

  • Tell me about your hermeneutics, share with me how you do NOT get "Christ was made sin for us" from the original Greek manuscript. I am far from being a Greek scholar but from my reading of the original manuscript, He was made sin for us. Of what different Gospel is it you speak?

  • The Bible clearly states that sin was laid on Him in the same way it was a sacrifice with the shedding of blood- Isaiah and Hewbrews speak of Jesus perfection- He was without sin- He never became sin- he carried our sin- it was laid on Him- he bore it as a sacrifice- very different

  • @pianohbc HEY!!! 2 corinthians 5:21 God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God. so... i guess the song is rite. lol

  • @ELsclay There you have a modern incorrect translation- the original meaning was sin offerring not sin itself. Jesus was a redemptive sacrifice as were the temple lambs. Lol is not important here as a response - its about having a correct view so as to not be deceived when the next heresy comes along- dont you think thats important- just look at the emergent and UN based favours of Warren and McLean - we are living in the last days

  • @pianohbc wuts the actual translation say?

  • If you are referring to 2 Corinthians 5- the whole meaning of the phrase is " to be a sin offerring" but the NIV has translated this as to become sin which is a totally different meaning. If I am covered in a tablecloth it does not mean I am a tablecloth

  • its born again wut ur saying, rite?

  • Yes- today there is a heresy that says God gives us a chance to try again- make up for our mistakes- gives us life again- we have never had it the first time- being born again does not mean you get a second chance- you never had a first- it is a totally new regenerative birth

  • rite! so we're becoming an entirely new new being!

  • Yes- " therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation- theold has gone- the new has come- 2 Corinthians 5 v 17. Its not just about us deciding to do good or not sin- we are "born of the Spirit" - that is different to changing ourlives by thinking differently with no spiritual renewal.

  • If you read Hebrews 9- the full context of sacrifice is reflected in the purity of the sacrifice- the unblemished lamb and the shedding of blood for the forgiveness of sin. Hebrews 13 speaks of making the peole holy by the shedding of blood- He does not become sin anywhere- thats against the concept of Jewish sacrifice of which Christ was one.

  • @pianohbc if Christ did not become sin for us then there is no forgiveness of sin. If Christ did not embody sin when he was killed on the cross then God's wrath was poured out on a man who claimed to be God. Thankfully through living a sinless life he was able to embody sin and recieve all of its punishment. That's why he can be our mediator.

  • The sin is laid on him as Isaiah says and the example of the scapegoat is one- our sins were laid on Jesus but He never became sin in Himself.

  • (1/3) Hey pianohbc, I definitely share your view that we must be careful with our worship words! A lot of songs today do sing a gospel not found in the Bible.

But with regard to this song, I don't quite agree with you. Christ "becoming" sin for us is very much Biblical language - literally and fairly translated, 2 Cor 5:21 says that for our sake, God made Christ "to be sin who knew no sin" (ESV),

  • (2/3) in much the same way as Gal 3:13 says that Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by "becoming a curse for us". In these verses, Paul is certainly referring to the notion that Christ took our sins upon himself and suffered their punishment, but casts this in dramatic, figurative terms such that just as we are (or embody) Christ's righteousness, Christ was (or embodied) our sin. There is nothing wrong with this!

  • (3/3) Regarding your second comment, I'm not sure what song you're referring to, but Stuart Townend is probably only using "again" to stress the overtones of the redemption message - that God through Christ is setting right and redeeming all of creation. What he created was "good" and was life. Sinfulness brought in "bad" and death. And Christ's work on the cross is God's vehicle to make things "good" and "life" AGAIN.

    Thanks for your post!

  • My youth group loves this song. We sing it all the time. Its so moving.

  • Jesus my Lord, thank you for the Power of the Cross. Your Blood is incredibly, immeasurably powerful. Love you, Wonderful Lord. Bless you for posting this video.

  • ^_^ yaaaaaaaa

  • When I hear lyrics like these I feel there is nothing else to say other than "Amen, Maranatha."

  • Romans 8

  • you have no idea how much this video has blessed me!!!

    thank you very much.

Indeed, we serve a wonderful God!!

  • biblebeltkid, glad you posted this song. You should know that Stuart wrote the lyric, Getty the music on this and most all of the modern hymns that Keith and Kristyn have recorded.

  • Is this version on CD? I found Townend's CD, but it's different than this version.

  • Is this exact version on CD? I want to buy it or download it from somewhere. I found Townend's CD, but it's not this version.

  • Lord we rejoice in You!! Lord you triummphed over Satan! You are our protection. In Your Love there's no fear. Lord...let every part of us return back to You. Take us and mold us into the likeness of You

  • The Power of The Cross ... Amen!

  • I love the congregation cheering during the lines, "finished the victory, Christ"!

  • we just sang this today for our Eucharist service at school :) great great song.

  • God Bless you 'Biblebeltkid'. Praise be to HIM who has ransomed us from Satan's hands and saved us from slavery to sin and an eternity of damnation.

This song is one of the greatest works of contemprorary Christian music; such a difference to the tyring norm called 'gospel' music which commonly have no lyrics grounded in true theology, instead having vague nuances of Christianity and New-Ageism piffle.

  • I love this song. Praise God for sending His son to die for my sins that I may obtain everlasting life. Glory to God.

  • Now the daylight flees, now the ground beneath

quakes as its Maker bows His head.

Curtain torn in two, dead are raised to life.

    "Finished!" the vict'ry cry.

Oh to see my name written in the wounds,

for through Your suff'ring I am free.

Death is crushed to death, life is mine to live

    won through Your selfless love!

  • @BookloverLBT

This the power, of the cross. Son of God, slain for us. What a love, what a cost! We stand forgiven at the cross.

  • Oh to see the dawn of the darkest day. Christ on the road to Calvary. Tried by sinful men, torn and beaten then nailed to a cross of wood. Refrain This the pow'r of the cross. Christ became sin for us. Took the blame, bore the wrath, We stand forgiven at the cross. Oh to see the pain written on Your face, bearing the awesome weight of sin. Every bitter thought, ev'ry evil deed crowning Your bloodstained brow.
  • i like the song but it annoys me a little bit that all the images of jesus are very western. jesus wasnt white and probably didn't look like most of the people who like this song.

nevertheless it doesnt matter what he looked like.

  • I'm sure he looked like a jew.

  • Love the hymn and the video - but the picture at 1:47 is taken from an "artwork" actually called "Piss Christ" and it depicts a crucifix in a container filled with human urine! The artist is said to be a devout catholic but I think that the picture is - somehow - blasphemous ...

Nevertheless thanks for the beautiful hymn ...

  • I completely agree with you TimotheosCauvin. The picture at 1.47 by devout catholic Andres Serrano is, in my opinion blasphemous and degrading. This hymn however is beautiful.

  • Five Stars!!

    Thank You forever Jesus Christ!!!

But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.

    Isaiah 53:4-6

    1 Peter 2:24

Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.

  • two weeks ago I went to Northland Camp, and the choir sang this song, now its one of my faves

  • id like to thank who ever put this up its a great song! and when i went to camp this year it was the awana camp ( its a christian overnight camp)

well anyways i got saved and we sang this song that night lets just say almost every one in the room was crying!

  • i love this song we sang it at church today(: i started tearing up can you put the lyrics in the info box? please? (:

  • isn't it music by getty words by townend and not everything by keith getty?

  • Probably something like that, I dunno exactly

  • amazing song, so powerful and really reminds me what God has done for me!

  • Hence the Tau or T, in its most frequent form, with the cross-piece lowered, was adopted to stand for the "cross" of Christ.

  • Point being? We know what it represents, and we don't worship the icon itself - we worship the Lord who was executed there

  • "This the power, of the cross, Christ became, Sin for us, Took the blame, bore the wrath, we stand forgiven at the cross." The song is about Christ's forgiving and redeeming us. The cross is simply an icon to represent Christ's death.

  • By the middle of the 3rd cent. A.D. the churches had either departed from, or had travestied, certain doctrines of the Christian faith. In order to increase the prestige of the apostate ecclesiastical system pagans were received into the churches apart from regeneration by faith, and were permitted largely to retain their pagan signs and symbols.

  • The shape of the latter had its origin in ancient Chaldea, and was used as the symbol of the god Tammuz (being in the shape of the mystic Tau, the initial of his name) in that country and in adjacent lands, including Egyp

  • Vine's Expository Dictionary of New Testament Words stauros denotes, primarily, "an upright pale or stake." On such malefactors were nailed for execution. Both the noun and the verb stauroo, "to fasten to a stake or pale," are originally to be distinguished from the ecclesiastical form of a two beamed "cross."

  • tippygirl53...This is one of my new Favs. So timely for this season!

  • "took the blame, bore the wrath, we stand forgiven at the cross!" Hallelujah we are saved, thankyou Jesus for saving us! Ahem

  • Thank you sooo much for posting this!

  • "All of mankind's sin fell upon Him"

    xD

  • It's not the cross we worship; we worship our Savior who bled and died on it. All of mankind's sin fell upon Him and that sin was done with once and for all! Do we accept that Christ is the sin bearer? Do we believe He is now the risen King? Do we believe that He is the only answer? I say YES! Let's not forget this Easter, the REAL reason why we celebrate. God Bless You All!

  • Under the present delicate situation we christians found ourself the words of the powerful song confirms the fact that we are free to worship God in style. Amen

  • I would like to download this video for use at my church. Is this a possibility?

  • Too often I think we as Christians can be scared to think of the horror of the cross and what the Lord endured! Those pictures add so much to the song, So humbling, this is such a powerful song!

"Oh to see my name written in the wounds"

  • Too true - often, Christians are scared away from the cross because they cannot quite grasp the horror of what happened there.

But the cross is vital - Jesus said 'the Son of Man MUST die', not he 'might' die. Jesus' death is the one act that, more than any other, demonstrates completely God's love for us. As horrific it may be, it is also beautiful - as he hung there, separated from God, we were made righteous before God that we could be his people forever.

He is risen indeed - hallelujah!

  • I want to say, this is very true, without Jesus on the cross we would have been lost. Lets proclaim the message of the Cross in Jesus Name. Amen

  • My favourite hymn. This truly shows the power of the lord I just really wish people would open their eyes and hearts and let Jesus in

  • for I am not ashamed of the Gospel of Jesus Christ it is the power of God unto Salvation.

  • This song beautifully draws us back to the wonderful work of Christ, a finished work that should be proclaimed to the whole world.

  • Amen!

  • Hebrews 7:24-26

but because Jesus lives forever, he has a permanent priesthood. Therefore he is able to save completely those who come to God through him, because he always lives to intercede for them. Such a high priest meets our need—one who is holy, blameless, pure, set apart from sinners, exalted above the heavens.

I am so glad that Jesus does the saving and not us :) He saves all who come to Him. amen

  • the lyrics in this song!!!!!!!!!!!

    s.t and k.g are genius',

anf God of course who did have rather a big input into this song!!!!!!

  • Has me raising a hand when I'm mixing a service at my home church... (nuther soundman)

  • I really wish they hadn't put that translation of 1 Corinthians 1:17-18. The KJV is more accurate in it's translation. "..but to us who ARE SAVED..." not "being saved."

  • are not people still "being saved?"

The NASB would be just as accurate then.

The ESV which seems to be the choice of language nerds (said affectionately) also translates it "being saved." You aren't going to try and hijack this into a KJV Only discussion I hope.

  • Most translations render it "Being Saved". Consider this, it's power to us, "If Saved" It is also power to sinners "To effect Salvation" so in between both you have "Being saved" The word "Saved" in the Greek denotes a continuing work. See 4982 in Strong's Greek concordance.

  • No, I won't but I just don't trust the other versions too much, and yes I know, I've heard all the arguments, and i admit that at this point I'm not educated enough to defend the KJV, but I still wonder according to my research.

  • I know this boy whose a typical teenager shows no emotions but burst into tears in this song. The line oh to see my name written in his wounds saved him and me

  • (My last comment was for scottisradd by the way)

  • Beautiful song!

  • Praise God for the Cross!

  • I heard this song is written to commemorate September 11.

  • I'm singing this my vocal audition for my school play tomorrow at Willard high school

  • Fantastic!

  • We sang this song in church a few weeks ago. On that week it was the only time my dad come with me to church and even though he doesn't beleive in God, I think he got the message about what the story of Jesus on the cross is really about so I thank God we sung that song.

  • my dad came to a saving relationship with jesus christ this past sunday, after 20 years of prayer. he began to come to church and listen and read the bible months before he surrendered his life. dont lose hope, God is good.

  • Thank you for telling me this about your dad and I believe that my dad will get to know God and believe in him even if it is 70 years from know.

  • Amazing news brother, praise God

  • Keith & Kristyn Getty will be abundantly blessed for helping the saints raise their hearts in worship to our God & Savior.

    Thank You Lord Jesus.

  • I love this song...so very beautiful!
