A good review, it seems Hunters & Gatherers in many ways equals the original Carcassonne WITH the two first expansions (Traders & Builders, Inns & Cathedrals), as you have a lot of the same factors (for example, in T&B you have the trade goods that give bonus-points for those who complete the city, like in Hunters & Gatherers with the forests/gold). It might be a good idea for newcomers to just get Hunters & Gatherers and save some cash.

no way... carcassonne (any version) is way more fun than catan, even at 3-4 players which catan requires
8 is a good score, but when catan gets a 9 i have to disagree.
of course... opinion is opinion....
