Sorry, but your tutorial is outdatet, your setup ist quite simple...
Ok, your setup is cheap (the pan, the bag, the reflector), but to get amazing results you have to spend some money. Your drops are a little bit boring.
Great tips, I also have a D300S, but I don't have a tri-pod, or an externa flash, do I need these things? I'm guessing I DO need the tri-pod, I love taken micro shots....So what kind of photo software do you think is best?
u can do this with all cameras, u can even use a flash form a old film camera, and i have don em with both Nikon D40, D200, D300s, D3, cannon 1d mark3, cannon eos 350d etc, all can do it no matter what camera u have u can do it, its u who set the standart and not the camera, try using other thing as example milk and red juice, u can even use the internal flash to bounce on a white or other color paper, the paper u bounce ons color will color the water, and i have done it with a disposable camera
Yeah us your internal flash and bounce it on a paper at the side of the container, using a piece of white paper with black tape on one site u can bounce the flash over at the paper instead of direktly to the drop, u can even color the water using a blue, red, yellow, and som on paper, a orange paper will give u a bit more contrast in the drop ;O)
@SimplisticMind Here is a link to my set of waterdrop pics on Flickr. The filenames that start with "cimg" were shot with a casio 10megabit compact, the others with a canon rebel XTi flickr.com/photos/gatineaujoe/sets/72157622759249986/detail/
Great tips, and great pictures, I have a D300S so I assume I could do the same with this camera. I have a lot to learn and over bought. I do have the same lens to take pictures of my coins I sell on ebay. Thanks for sharing,
@sampreap okay is this video focusing on his hair or on how to learn about how to take a picture of water? just saying cuz you seem distracted by the hair more than the photography lmaoo
Theres not a great deal of equipment here. I dont have a studio or want a flash, so with my d700,105 macro and tripod, I have all I need.
What wasnt mentioned, yet is very important, is to shoot water at the correct angle. You need to experiment to find an angle which is neither too shallow or steep. The correct angle enhances the shape of the water after the droplet has landed
@ragnarocking That was my thought as well. He seems to be pretty enamored with his equipment so maybe he just wanted everyone to see that he has pocket wizards ;-)
he talks a lot.. but good stuff ;)

you need none of these things .
fill a tub with water and the advantage of that is you can adjust the presure with which the water drop let is to be falling.

I've taken shots like this with my compact.

@gatineaujoe you could take shots like this with a good camera that you make by yourself.
Its not about the equipment but if you will get higher quality you need a dslr or slr(highest quality).

@gatineaujoe Can you post them so we can have a look please?

what's the pocket wizard for? Pardon my ignorance, but doesn't the Nikon CLS take care of the off-camera flash syncing?
Thanks
