Hi... So, I tried doing as the video said and I already have Audacity downloaded... It wouldn't really work so is there any other advice that can be given???
I am new to this and have only have used Windows Movie Maker to do some editing. I want to know if It is possible to remove background conversations? I video clipped my father but I want to remove the loud voices of people talking next room, do I need Sony Vegas?
@HippyHappy70 You don't need Vegas to remove unwanted noise. You can do it with the free audacity program. But you wouldn't be able to remove people talking voices without also affecting other voices in the clip.
@guerillabill Ok thank you, is there any other program that I could use for that purpose? the background female "conversation" sound like a hen house LOL
@HippyHappy70 It would be difficult to selectively remove human voices without affected others on the same audio track. You could try using audio equalizer (built into many audio editing programs) to reduce the high tones, and bring out the deeper male voices.
@guerillabill Thank you very much, I was just believing in magic trying to remove those voices.... I'll download Audacity again to use the equalizer. I've used before to convert audio from old tapes into mp3 files.
@bowlchamp411 To get best noise reduction, highlight just the noise so you get a good sample, then use the minimum amount of noise reduction. Less is better. Noise reduction only removes the sampled noise.
@Exeven92 It depends on how many and how frequent the beeps are. If there are just a few beeps, use a volume envelope to reduce the volume at each beep.
the only issue with this is when you do this you end up removing the same noise from the vocal sounds which makes it seem like the sound is still there because it replaces it with dead space.
I tried this with this constant hissing sound for a theater production where the actors had mics... but the gain seemed increased (I may be wrong about what exactly that was). This technique proved to be successful! Your video was referred to me by CallNerds (dot) com. I thought you'd like to know. This was a huge win for me as this was a bear of a task. Thank you, Bill! I also own one of your DVD's.
@TheEyeFinity Try using the noisegate filter in Sony Vegas. To see how, view my YouTube video, 'Using free noisegate plugin to remove unwanted noise in Sony Vegas'
Excelent! I've been tryihg to work this out for ages. I knew how to remove the white noise with Audacity, it was jus resyncing the sound afterwards I hadn't figured. Thank you! :)
@guerillabill yeah i found the bumps where it showed the static but i still hear it. i took videos from an icp concert with my iphone but the speakers were really loud and thats what caused so much static. i want to get rid of the static completely without silencing the music
@dragonbreathstinks You must be able to get a clean sample of the sound to be removed, else audacity won't know what to remove, and will remove everything in the sample you give it.
Hello Bill. To record My own voice J can use audacity or fraps but which program is better? J take your advice and unfortunately, it's still remains the unwanted noise (something has changed, something strange) Certainly I do something wrong ... I suppose I have a bad sound settings in Sony Vegas (I have no idea how to set the best)
Hi Bill. When I try to 'render as' it will not allow me to render as just an audio track (iaff etc)- the 'render' option at the bottom is grayed out until I go to the video options, when it then comes online. I use audacity a lot but unfortunately this movie studio 11 platinum trial does not seem to allow me to save just the audio. Do you have any ideas about why that is/how to do it? Thanks.
@ShiineEnterprise I just tested this in Sony Movie Studio trial 11. You can render audio as aif, wav, ac3, mp3 and a few other audio formats. If you don't have aif, render to wav.
@HolyBasilisk Select a sample of just the noise in the audacity timeline, and set the sensitivity as low as possible to remove the noise. The lower the sensitivity level, the less chance of affecting other audio on the track.
@guerillabill I follow all the stems and put sensitivity to -20 the lowest it can go and my voice almost seems like it drags on for some reason, If I could send you a video file of it i would but i dont know whats going on.
I have 44 Noice Reduction, -20 sensitivity, 150 frequency smoothing, and 0.25 att delay
Good video. Can you remove voice from a video? I filmed a car meeting but the persons inside my car were talking, can I remove their voices from the video and still hear the car sounds from the outside?
@Hayabusacrx There are some plugins for audacity that claim to be able to remove voices. They are free, and worth trying. But depending on the range of the voice, removing them might also remove similar tones from the car sounds.
@TehEspaaK It is difficult to remove wind noise without also removing the same sound frequencies in human voices. You might be able to remove some of the wind noise by using the equalizer built into Sony Movie Studio.
@RIFTER891 As shown in the above video, you highlight a sample of an area with just the noise so Audacity knows what to remove. If you fail to provide a sample, all sound might be removed.
Hi, I filmed a concert last night and you just hear the crowd more than the actual band. Do you know if this could work for reducing the sound from the crowd or do know some other way to do it. Would really like if you could help me! Thanks
@TheGTbmxer It will be difficult to soften the crowd noise without affecting the quality of the performers on stage. You could try a noisegate. See my YouTube video 'Using free noisegate plugin to remove unwanted noise in Sony Vegas'
Thank you so much! I have Sound Forge10 that came with Vegas studio Platinum suite and it didn't have 'noise reduction'!!! It needs a plug-in that means Sony wants more money from us. Isn't it ridiculous that SF9 has "noise reduction" but SF10 doesn't! Thanks again. And Audacity is great for me :)
@CoverMeComedy Depends on how overbearing the wind sounds are. I'd first try the equalizer built into Sony Vegas / Movie Studio to see if that helps. Then try Audacity.
@bewareoftheleapard For best effect you need to record the noise well, ensure that you have a good sample of background noise before or after each audio recording you are going to edit and don't move your microphone as this will change the noise. You should try to get the shortest, quietest and most typical sample of noise with no other sounds in it (hold your breath!). Using sampled noise from one recording to remove the noise from a different recording can't be expected to work.
Im trying to use my turtle beaches for sony vegas and It makes a high pitch noice in the backround?? If you have any settings that will fix it pleae reply.
thanks it works really well. however, it only lets me edit 2 minute audio files...which is inconvienient because i have to edit a 14 minute audio file :(
Ok so I recently recored a video from outside but there is terrible wind in the background and you can barely hear what my friend is saying. But when I tried to remove the background noise just like how you showed me it didnt remove it completely, instead it made it sound almost worst than before. Do you have any suggestions? Thanks.
The problem is that I have a person speaking over the beeping sound in the background so how am I supposed to sample just the beeping noise alone? Can I somehow separate different noises in the audio track so I can just get at removing the beeping sound alone? Help? Is there another better audio editing program that can solve my problems?
@LoneSola Use the split command to split just the audio segment you want. To split, put your mouse at the point you want to start the split, and press s. Then put your mouse at the end of th split and press s.
I'm using Sony Vegas, and I don't have the Audio Interchange File Format...I got ATRAC audio, LPEC audio and MP3 audio...do I just try them all to see which one will work?
@guerillabill yea i did that. i found out the problem. all i can do is highlight the audio b4 i click anything else, than i can do it. but as soon as i zoom in, and THEN highlight the area, i cant choose any effects.
I tried to do this to edit a clip and it didnot work. if i wanted to remove the video, but keep the audio track, what do i need to do? do you have a tutorial for that?
OMG MY DAD JUST RUINED Y SONY VEGAS RPO 9! HE ADDED THIS CLICKING NOISE YESTERDAY! AND NOW WHEN I GOT ON THIS MORNING IT WAS STILL ON! AND THERES THAT BAR SOUND THINGY! WHEN I CLICK PLAY IT GOES "tik tok tik tok tik tok tik tok" and theres no media in the timeline! help me! and when i import a picture its streecthed out! HELP!

Hey Bill I desperately need to remove the noise the my camcorder makes, however my video editor doesn't have the "render as" option. Is there another way I can get my audio file to audacity? Or do you know a free video editing software that comes with that feature?
thanks a lot seeing that u know all about fixing audio id appreciate if u can chek out my channel and lemme know what i can do 2 fix my audio. pls check my last vid. thanks

Hey Bill I desperately need to remove the noise the my camcorder makes, however my video editor doesn't have the "render as" option. Is there another way I can get my audio file to audacity? Or do you know a free video editing software that comes with that feature?

Thank you so much! But one question... is the outcome of this process effected by the file being different than the AIF format?
ScottyDoubleD 1 year ago
@ScottyDoubleD No, regardless of audio format used, the results will be the same. If you don't have aif, use wav.
