THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS.IVE BEEN TRYING TO FIND THIS SOAP FOR YEARS. I WAS A TEENAGER WHEN THIS WAS ON AND EVEN TOOK UP A PETITION TO ABC WHEN IT WAS CANCELLED-LOVE IT. THANKS
The next to last scene faded to black with Walter locked in his home with gun in hand, ready to commit suicide as Carol West screamed and pounded on the door pleading for him not to do it and to let her in.
The Ann/Paul affair lasted long enough to break up the marriage of Ann and Walter, as played out in the scene just shown. As you might suspect from that beautiful scene, neither ever stopped loving one another. The final episode will go down in history as one of the most amazing cliffhangers in soap opera annals....
After having a very successful career as a model for Walter’s advertising campaigns, she was “let go” by Walter’s agency and replaced with younger model Carol West (Susan Seaforth). Ann, however, didn’t take it laying down (or maybe actually she did). As Ann search for continued desirability , she raced head on into an affair with musician Paul Stevens (Michael Steffani) with the addition of fuel by Irene Forsythe, the head honcho of Halsteads Department Store....
But that was the case of Ann Reynolds (Susan Brown) in an effort to prove herself still desirable and to find her sense of worth while commercial artist husband Walter (Mike Mikler) hopelessly bogged himself down in work. Susan Brown was indeed a pioneer in her role as Ann feeling stifled and abandoned as a housewife and wanting more. Maybe America’s daytime audience wasn’t ready to identify with Ann—leading lives they felt were dull and unimportant...
@foxma Women's outlook on life was just beginning to change at the time this show debuted. THE FEMININE MYSTIQUE had only been published the year before...the book that made innumerable women realize they weren't alone in feeling the romanticized version of a housewife American culture had been touting since the end of World War II was not providing them with genuine happiness or fulfillment.
The Young Marrieds was an amazing and wonderful soap with an awesome cast that was light-years ahead of its time. Unfortunately it’s progressiveness is what probably was responsible for its short year and a half run. Until it premiered in 1964 viewers were not accustomed to the wife in the marriage being responsible for an affair that would lead to the marriage demise—that was always the husband’s role...
Those scenes with Walter and Ann are so tender and beautiful. It's nice to see Susan playing a role which has such fragility.
The Korman scenes are out of control! Is Jill supposed to be a young vixen type? She's fascinating. I'm also fascinated by Buzz's mother. Who is laying her? She's like a cross between Vicki Lawrence and Barbara Berjer.
Why does that man have half black hair and half white?

By the way, the theme music was well as background music were composed by Robert (Bob) Cobert who later composed the music for Dark Shadows.
