  • is this a comedy?

  • Pickle fork will tear the boot...ball joint no good now. Go to Harbor Freight and get this little gem, use it. No hammering, no damage. It just works.

Ball Joint separator, part number 99849. Sixteen bucks.

  • Imma pretty sure that 13/16 ths socket is +1 against orcs.

  • has to be the funniest video, i couldnt stop laughing when he was bashing it with a hammer!!! lmaooooo

  • he made more damege LOL

  • This should be a John Smiths advert "no nonsense!"

  • Some liquid wrench shoot it before you remove the ball joint or some pl100 this is great stuff, and it really works, been useing it for 1 year now.

  • great help. thanks

    Scott

  • i love your vids man because you get into those problems that i do thanks for showing it aint easy

  • Worst video I've ever seen. That's expertvillage for ya

  • this is fine if you are replacing the ball joint ! i just did a trans job on my 05 taurus and the most damage i did was a few dings on the lower control arm! what i did was take the round support off my floor jack put a piece of flat steel on the jack where the round support was. then i positioned the floor jack under the stud, jacked up the car so all the weight was on the stud and smacked the control arm 5 or 6 times with a 2 pound sledge and bang it popped out

  • Expert village needs scotty kilmer or eric the car guy to do their videos.

  • That is definitely NOT the proper way to remove the ball joint!!!

  • lol ill be laughfing when this coil with about a ton of pressure pops in his face

  • I laughed when he said "separating your lower ball joint".

  • nice tools. little rusty don't you think?

  • has this guy heard of air tools???

  • this is most definatley not the best way to change a strut in the car. You do not need to seperate the lower ball joint at all. The way he is doing this you run the risk of ruining the boot on the ball joint and destroying the spindle, also when he was hammering behing the rotor, he probably could have hit the toothed wheel for the abs sensor, and jacking the spindle under the rotor? is this guy even ASE certified? sounds like a backyard mechanic to me.

  • Thanks I just busted a good spindle. Using a pickle fork I broke the spindle near the ball joint mount. Now I have to buy a new spindle.

  • Pickle forks and hammers are bad news! I just busted the lower spindle where it houses the ball joint. Now I have to buy a new spindle. Thanks a lot!

  • spray lube that bad boy for crying out loud!

  • He is missing a step in the series and it gets me angry. He never shows getting or for that matter the botom of the strut. It just goes to undoing the three bolts on top. Same with assy

  • he just about ruined those threads on the stud

  • i wish e-village videos were numbered.

  • I used to have a ford taurus and I,ll tellyou THE PROPER WAY TO FIX THAT garbage is to put it where it belongs.

  • Haha

  • WD40 always help with rusty bolts

  • Im gettin tired of the "Proper service procedure"

  • Yeah, he butchered the rubber boot. no-doubt ! But it's probably no big, since thats most likely why he was taking it apart anyway.

But he could have used a floor jack under the rotor(disc) & jacked the car up till it was suspended with all of the weight of the car pressing upward on the rotor then get a real hammer a (baby-sledge) & smack the knuckle 1 time & it will break free & If your concerned about hurting anything, use 2 sledge-hammers, lay 1 on the knuckle & smack it with thee other.

  • wow. there goes the rubber boot. a better way would be to thread the nut back on a little and tap that with the hammer. dont tap the end of the bolt directly though, the threads will get ruined.

  • it would of been a good idea to jack up the hub first to release the load of the ball joint.

  • Its not proper procedure. by hammering wishbone's connection (next to ball joint) you will destroy or cause) excessive play on two other rubber bushes. Besides - now Nat has to chage a ball joint on its own (as he destroyed rubber gaitor, and thread). Hammering next to ABS teeth is really - silly idea.

  • proper service procedure is to use a standard puller tool.

  • Is this guy a butcher or what? Unless that ball joint is garbage, he just ruined it by tearing the boot. You can tap the sides of the lower control arm where the ball joint goes thru to break that bond.

  • Or he could just grease up the boot before inserting the pickle wedge.

Now i would like to see him put it all back with that ripped seal !!!

  • @john7282 so he said u break a weal, do you have to re do it later?

  • NOOB

  • now he needs to show how to replace the ball joint, since he tore the boot.

  • LOL

  • Oh thats good mushroom up that ball joint stud chachee.. Posting these videos is stealing money from dealerships. You should be ashamed. Not to mention dangerous because some people dont belong anywhere near cars or trying to fix them.

  • yeah I think he screwed up the rubber boot on the ball joint. Also, it's painful to watch this as he uses no air tools, very time consuming.

  • Nothing wrong with wanting to LEARN... Better than letting a mechanic / dealership rip you off!!

  • That comment is just retarded.

Nothing wrong with having knowledge on mechanics. That way you can avoid half of the freaking thieves on the streets who call themselves mechanics.

  • hahaha dude what are you doing:P

    hahaha

  • What the fuk are youdoin´?

In my house hammers are forbiden.

  • this guy i such fcking noob not only is the ball joint fucked, but jacking up the rotor with out securing the rotor on the hub, the amount of tention on the spring at full extention is still enough to kill someone (cough) ths guy(cough) if something were to slip

  • lol not to mention he probably destroyed the threads on the ball joint threads. Also, the spring is retained on strut, so it wouldn't really matter if anything slipped. The strut is still bolted onto the unibody, and the strut is holding the sping.

  • use an air hammer next time ball joint be off in less than 10 seconds hope u replaing that ball joint too since u fuked up the threadz lol

  • look at that mangled grease boot on the ball joint. opps.did ya tell the guy see ya soon?

  • it took me forever to get the ball joint separated! I had to take the whole control arm off and hammer out the joint it was so stuck!

  • Ive just changed 2 ball joints on my renault laguna today and the bother i had with them Arrrrggggggggggg!!!!!!!!!! never again im just gonna burn it out lmao

  • nice informative videos, I saw one big problem with it tho, you showed yourself beating on the threads of the balljoint to coax it into separation.. without the nut on the end or using a block of wood in between it you can screw the threads and then replacement is about your average backyard mechanic can do. I know "why" you did it, but I was really expecting you to say "this is not the best method for doing this" or something of a warning that you can damage it. Other than that I enjoyed it

  • I guess he is assuming that people watching this video, which I find very ilustrative, will happy just a tiny bit of common sense. Obviously the car he is working on is just for ths sole purpose of showing us how to do it.

  • My friend has been doing his for hours and hours. He sent me this.

  • he thinks thats hard try doing a king pin on a 40ft bus

  • i just use and air wrench to take that nut out

  • you hit the side of the balljoint. not the bottom unless you have the nut on it. otherwise you damage the threads

  • SPARY THAT BALLJOINT WITH PB BLASTER
