  • These white boys are gettin' down.

  • Bloody Awesome

  • where's briannnnn

  • Spectacular. I understand that it took something like 88 hours to do the original tracks for this. Particularly like the D202E over the drum kit. Wonderful job of mixing and mastering. Major kudos.

  • REALLY GOOD VIBRATIONS

  • chill-inducing.... thank you very much for this!!

  • nice job!

  • FABULOUS!!! SIMPLY FAB - U - LOUS! Thank you so much!

  • YEAH!!!!!!!!! THANKS for that good version!!!

  • Woww que de souvenirs... le son super ..bravo

  • Fantastic.

  • Could you make this available for download somehow? This is beyond awesome.

  • This mix sounds freaking incredible. If anything it takes this song which was already in my list of the 100 best ever and moves it up closer to the top 10. Great mix!

  • Excuse my ignorance but where's Brian ?

  • @Hopegirls Probably in the recording studio working on 'Smile', the follow-up to 'Pet Sounds' that was eventually scrapped by their record label.

  • @foxbasealpha No offence but you mean to tell me that when the band band is obviously doing a major TV appearance, Brian is sitting in some studio doing over-dubs ? I doubt it. More like he couldn't get his nose off the table.

  • Whoa! Carl's playin bass? Awesome!

  • THIS SONG ALWAYS BLOWS ME AWAY!!!

  • Wuz lucky, very, to have been able to live thru my university years starting as a freshman in 1966 and listening to this music,,, maybe we took it for granted and didn't realize how great this music is / was ... Amean Justin+LGaga is ok...but any studend of music can tell about those times, especially 1964 to 1969 ... Groovy.

  • Nice mix but do hear some reverb in places and some phasing from the mono source in with the stereo backing. I've made quite a few "stereo" versions of GV ranging from the early Brian lyrics to the Rarities version, the 45 version and then the same version you presented here.

  • Wow. Magnificent. Great video, my friend. Absolutely fantastic.

  • I agree, Brian was the brains of the band, Carl was the backbone, and Dennis was the heart . Mike was the ass

  • @pav777tube

    :o) Uh Huh.

  • Thanks so much for this video. It really is a masterpiece. Brian was the genius/brains of this band and Carl was the backbone. Great stuff!

  • This was the number 1 song the week I was born!!! Thanks for putting this together!

  • Theremin!!!!!!!!!!

  • fantastic! I think I know how you did it but must explain better, driving me nuts..Very nice and professional, take care, John M.

  • Bad miming by Dennis at 0.18 & at 1.09 Drums play but he isnt. I like Dennis as he is the charismatic one in the band, but no way an accomplished musician as the others, apart from Mike, its clear the others carried Dennis, just as well, as god knows what road Dennis would of taken.

  • @carl300zx This is also a film of a separate performance, with the original single dubbed over.

  • Simply one of the best pop songs ever recorded...Brian's mini-symphony! Carl's vocals again...my my...

  • This is incredible

  • Yes for the odio...;-))

  • im 14 and i think carl was adorablee:)

  • Can you post this somewhere in lossless audio quality (such as FLAC or WAV)? Excellent job!

  • THIS IS A MASTERPIECE!

  • carl's singing lead here, and playing bass, don't know where bruce johnston was on this one.....

  • perfection

  • I think that sometime in the future people will be able to buy there favorite song and mix it the way they want it.....this is excellent, thanks for the listen.

  • The electro-theremin sound in this song is amazing. Its really the one thing that draws me to the Beach Boys. Not so big on the vocals but the music is fantastic.

  • I LOVE IT !

  • Can you do this for I Get Around too please?

  • the music is great. brian, thanks for composing this with michael, love and thanks for carl for sharing the voice that God gave you

  • great!! The sound is awesome!

  • more psychedellic than any other song ever

  • Fix vocals a bit and it's gonna be perfect mix. I like it.

  • I love how Mike looks like a triply ass psychedelic God, but really he's the opposite

  • Of the 2 greatest rock albums ever made...both were created by bass players.hmmm I watched brians fingers glide up and down that fretboard as ez as paul ever did!!!

  • @beatlestoneful

you mean carl right? brian was tripping balls somewhere when they filmed this

  • was the piano guy having a glass of milk?

  • @4afriend7 unfortunately, Brian Wilson did not tour with the band after 1964. The guy on piano is Bruce Johnston. That's why Carl is playing bass.

  • @4afriend7 bruce you mean?

  • @4afriend7 Laced with acid...?

  • big audio quality different between 360p and 720p

  • I never quite got how the keyboard in the intro always dropped after 'wears' but before 'and', but it's absolutley fixed here. I'd once heard it was just a poor edit but not sure about it.

  • @maxti6

I notice that too, but now it's almost just a part of it to me now.

  • I really enjoyed this mix...after hearing many versions of GV through the years, this one is an excellent mix. IF I were to do one thing different, it would bring the vocals up and the drums down just a very slight bit so the vocals stand up and out. But that's my interpretation on this mix...well done!!!

  • Great job! I love this!

  • If I could like this twice, I would.

  • effortless genuis....Carl's voice is so beautiful....thanks for posting this

  • Very Nice Sound ! I want you my team *S*

  • I will always LOVE the beach boys........

  • What is the name of the instrument Mike Love is playing here?

  • @kntshrm " theremin "

  • @Salinasdolas " tannerin " or "electro theremin"

  • @Salinasdolas Many thanks! i should have known from the sound evn though it looks totally different from the ones i have seen other musicians use e.g. Armen Ra.

  • That isn't Mike playing the theremin, it's the inventor of the device, Paul Tanner.

  • @hammerbrother i see. thanks!

  • I love this version. I just listened to the Smile Sessions version and one thing that always bugged me about that version of Good Vibrations is the beautiful part

with "Gotta keep those/loving good/vibrations a-happening with her" is too short. They only sing it twice and it goes back to the chorus. This version seems longer, with this part going on much longer. I prefer this one. Is this a different version or does someone here know what the hell I'm talking about?!

  • great music, terrific work on preparing this post. Brian was wise to let Carl sing as much as possible. Didn't realize that he had such a sweet sweet voice. I've now divided my Beachboy songs into rock, soft rock, balade and surf. He was also quite a good looker although my favourite was Dennis. As he sings is he can ever relieve his life he'd never do the bad thinks that he did. He'd be completely different. He story is so touching. He wallowed so deep in alcohol that he drowned in it

  • I always chuckle to myself when the random girl shows up at 2:25 and then is never seen again. Who knows if she was even in the studio to begin with!

  • In the Netherlands there was a various artist compilation CD called 'The Radio's on - 40 echte radio hits'.

Or is it a mok stereo ?

  • @THEmotownboy is there any way we can get this mix in lossless quality, or at least high bitrate ?

  • Super job, THEmotown boy!

  • Great job man... keep it up!

  • didn't know they han HD in 1966

  • @semmelbob Have you never watched an HD transfer of an older film? HD is a resolution, not a format.

  • A psychedelic masterpiece.

  • wowee Carl had such a beautiful voice

  • we saw this in my history of rock and roll class, and now I really want a theremin. :)

  • Good job, extremely well done. You obviously know what you're doing.

  • i wish Brian was on the vid

  • You did a remarkable job! I think you will have a hundred thousand views very soon, Thanks

  • I do have to mention the actual video presented though...I love the Beach Boys, they are my favorite band bar none, but to see them "performing" this song is kind of funny because they were and still are unable to re-create this song live. I see Dennis trying to drum, when he could never keep a beat like Hal Blaine...and Mike with what he called "the woo woo machine" trying to make the eerie sound of the theremin...Its always been about their voices because their live playing was just ok IMO

  • I totally love this version of GV...the cello at 3:59 is, to me, musical nirvana, its like a shot of high voltage electricity for the finish of a musical odyssey...I like how the cello is sort of subdued in this version, so many other mixes have it very loud, but this one is softer, yet it delivers this "power" (its the best I can describe it as). I also love the photos during the hum-de-dums...there was something very special during that time..Brian directing the Boys intricate parts..awesome!

  • OMG! This is by far the best STEREO version I've ever heard!! Now we know how wonderful a TRUE STEREO version (with missing vocals) could sound!!

  • teenage symphony to god

  • BUT I FOUND THIS WHICH DOES PURPORT TO BE TRUE STEREO! ON YOUTUBE! watch?v=8RhHS6ewJxI

  • Very nice, love it!!

  • This mix is AWESOME! The best version of this classic I've heard so far! Well done!

  • @supigoma ME TOO !

  • I am going to outfit my computer with those fancy glass speakers at the Apple Store JUST TO PLAY THIS!!!!!!!

  • Best 4:23 of my life...excellent work, my man! =)

  • Superb work - love it

  • Well done. Thanks

  • They dont make them like they used to!!!

  • Beautiful mix

  • Amazing band if you don't count Mike Love. Shame that he turned it into a karaoke act....

  • @donatocs Almost all the 60s shows for bands were lip-synced. MTV did it too. They also could never play this live as well as on the recording because it was such a complicated song to make in the studio. It's great that he re-did this with the bridge since it was left off the record. Cool to hear that.

  • My absolutely favorite Beach Boys song! Nice to hear this in true stereo, thanks for this.

This was released in October 1966 - a very good year in music.

  • Actually, the mono version to be released on "The Smile Sessions"(in Nov.2011) reinserts the "Hum Be Dum" section at the same place that you did. It also has the additional overdub over the song's ending, just like your version. How did you possibly know about those two things?......because you are correct.

  • That's a rare uncut version. Thanks for sharing this one.

  • Heavenly, out of this world, out of human normal comprehension. Love all changes

  • GREAT SONG!!!! I LOVE IT!!!!

  • this is fantastic! and youve totally answered the query i had asked on another posting of this song about the bridge,,id never heard it before and now youve told me why,...brilliant!

  • Excellent, stereo! Quite a dazzling arrangement of this song indeed is. I particularly like the tempo switches and the arpeggiating cello and hammond. Any chance you can remaster "You still believe in me?".

  • @sirpaisley -

Thanks, interesting info. I think the original inventor of the Theremin, a Russian, was later recruited by the KGB (or some comparable agency) to be some sort of spy.

  • It just aint right without Brian... and Dennis, you suck !!!

  • those are some badass mutton chops....

  • I hink Mike Love was in his Mid 20s but with him balding bad and his hideous dog ugly beard, he looks like he is 45

  • ive heard dozens of mixes of this song and this must be as good as it can get without the original tapes. superb quality using the best material availible, especially during the hum-be-dum section and bringin out the flute during the outro ( very often it gets hidden away), excellent work!

  • could you please send me an MP3 of this song (or whatever file type you have it in)?

  • Very nicely done. It has a three-dimensional quality to it. Love how the electro-theremin really pops out, like it's closer to your ears than the rest of the track! Thanks for sharing this with fellow music lovers!

  • Sounds good but the seperation is not full dimensional. If you check out capitolemiproducer he has a mix that even though has sync issues is full stereo

the panning is amazing check it out

  • Well done as always, @THEmotownboy! "Good Vibrations" isn't complete without the "hum-be-dum" bridge!!

  • @gjamieson78 Who does the "hum-de -dum", sounds like Michelle and Cass?

  • @blooddonor70 Haha! It's mostly Brian. @THEmotownboy, did you happen to notice that Mark Linett tried to steal your thunder for the SMiLE box---GV has the "hum-be-dums" and extended outro, but it's still mono, not your fantastic stereo mix. :)

  • @gjamieson78 Amazing! Your knowledge as well, they are outside of my area of expertise, buy i have tons of useless info on Bowie, the Stones, etc. The world needs people like us to carry the torch. Keep up the good work,It's nice to speak to someone with a brain on YT!

  • @gjamieson78 Sure it is, as Brian Wilson willingly (and rightfully, imo) didn't use it on his final mix of the song in 1966. VERY much dulls the climax before the final chorus, thus I feel he was very much in the right for knowing enough to remove it.

  • @runnersdialzero333 He also needed it in mono so he could hear it.

  • @1985MANAmericana *applause* thank you. That, too.

  • This was a masterpiece in it's day and it's now a MASTERPIECE once again, because of you, my friend. It is and always will be my favoirte song by The Beach Boys. Thanks so much!

    John

  • incredible job. coming from a music head.

  • There has NEVER been a stereo mix of this song, proper. You're correct. Love the extended ending too. Gr8 job!!

  • The cello was played by Igor Horochezecki (spell?) of the LA Phil. When the BB went to Japan in 68 IGOR was painted over the back door of their tour Boeing 707. I met him many times.

  • I made a true stereo mix using the mono as a reference, the Rarites version hard left,

the mono mix going mono, then right when backing vocals came up, and right channel has the stereo backing track from the bonus box set disc. Added some of the anniversary at the end. For instrumental break added the dumb de doo wahs, and then end complete. But I have a lot of speed sync issues aka phasing

  • Fantastic...brilliant job.....just great to listen to and look at...Regards...Dave

  • This is amazing I can't tell you how much I'm enjoying this Best Beach Boys mix ever!!! Thank you :))))

  • This is a fantastic mix. The only one I've heard that I like more than mine. My only criticism is that in certain places the vocals take a back seat to the instruments, which isn't quite in typical Beach Boys style. But from 66-67, the songs were so instrumentally dense that I sort of wish they were all like that. Nothing gets lost so it's still really good. Tremendous job.

  • Whoa, the very best stereo GV i've ever heard.

  • Wow is not he word so amazing, i cant believe it, the music sound quality!!,

my hats off to you Mowtownboy a work of Art of epic proportions

  • Wow,

you really did an amazing job on this.

I've heard some of the boots- But man oh man-

IT'S GREAT TO HEAR IT ALL TOGETHER!

    Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!-

  • THANKS FOR THIS!

    AWESOME.

  • This is fantastic, really well done & thanks for sharing.

  • Knotty pine and arrow nautical. Very nice!!

  • ah- interesting - good information - Id like to see a different performance than the Ed Sullivan show - I think they played Good Vibrations (and Darlin') at Unicef in 67- though only certain performances were shown certain places - I wish there was a recording of the NME awards in 67 - that would have been a crazy show

  • Obtuse question, since I don't know a lot about the Beach Boys discography. If the stereo version was never officially released, how did you run across this? Was it on an anthology in recent years?

In short, you're making me really enjoy songs I previously never cared much for (mostly growing up to parents who drilled the poorly-mastered versions into my head early and often).

This sounds incredible. Percussion and . . . is that a cello?

  • @parachuteclubbed - Thank you so much for the nice comment! I made this mix myself from a subsequently released stereo instrumental and the original mono vocal version. A true stereo version with vocals was never made or not known to exist. Also, somewhere along the way, (in the 80s?), the original studio multi-track that had the isolated vocals was either lost or thrown out! Yes that is a cello. This song and the arrangement are a marvel of creativity!

  • @THEmotownboy I'm enjoying this a lot, to my knowledge (which is admittedly flawed) the multi-track for Good Vibrations was first reported as missing as early as late 1967, just over a year after it's release!. I love the inclusion of the 'hum-de-hum' vocal bit, there was another section from this bit with a great distorted bass part, I love that bit too. Thanks for your work on this!!

    BobLucas

  • @THEmotownboy

The variety of musical instruments in this song is incredible. Is that a theremin making that eerie tonal sound (particularly at the end of the song)?

  • @THEmotownboy Can you send me an mp3?

  • @THEmotownboy Super.

  • @THEmotownboy I guess this isn't a cello , is an "Electro-Theremin , often called at Tannerin" : wiki/electro-theremin

  • @THEmotownboy I hope you have a career in the music industry, you have an amazing ear, man!

  • @THEmotownboy

I think this is an amazing work of art. you did real justice to this song and The Beach Boys. Thank You for posting this!

  • hmm - I wonder which show this footage is from - looks like Beat Club - its definitely late 1968 - they did *NO* TV appearances for this song within a year and-a-half of it being released (or Pet Sounds stuff for that matter - excluding a few promo films)....another reason they lost popularity around then...

  • @hellomcflyy

This clip was recorded June 2, 1969 as part of The Raiders & The Beach Boys TV Show, NRCV TV Studio, Amsterdam, Holland. Research shows that between October 1966 and this appearance, the group performed Good Vibrations on TV no less than 5 times, including October 1968 on The Ed Sullivan Show. Two promo films of the song also exist.

  • The 'restored bridge' makes this track even more mystical than ever before - you can really get lost in this track! Great job man...

  • Magic, thank you.Keep up the good work.
