'Alice Cooper' as a band redefined ROCK MUSIC as we knew it. A rock evolution took hold and had a profound affect on fellow rockers I'm sure and teenagers as well. I was a teenager when I first heard of 'Alice Cooper' and their music made me feel cool; it helped me cope in a good way. 'Alice Cooper' as a music boosted my confidence in my self. I really had a blast with this music. Today because of 'Alice Cooper" I play guitar and have rock music copyrighted by the library of Congress. Thank U.
a few weeks before Alice Cooper played at sherwood forest in davison mi outside flint. Best day of a 17 year old's life..get perfumed letter in mail from girlfriend..she loves me back and then that night, open up for The Whiz Kids and Alice Cooper at sherwood forest. Those were the last days Alice was a drunk. He sobered up for life not long after this. Somewhere I still have a home made fuzz petal made by Mike Bruce that he gave me that night.
Great song and performance! Back in the day when rock music was meaningful and driven on its own voice .. in lieu of money-driven! Love the original Alice Cooper line-up! A great combination of people!
Alice & Co. and this song do seem a bit ahead of their time here; this seems to exude more of a mid-to-late-1970s aesthetic with its somewhat punkish, proto-arena-rock look and sound, and its pure angst.
He hit his peak a few years after this with "I Never Cry." That was his last good song.
Nearly at the same time Grand Funk Railroad and Three dog Night ended their run of hits too. They all faded at the same time. Grand Fund faded after "Bad Time," and Three Dog after "The show must go on." The mid-70's was a barrier for them all.
@DexterHaven49 I totally agree and must I say, that was perfect! Although some of Grand Funk's - Good Singin' Good Playin' wasn't really bad considering Frank Zappa produced it. Crossfire and 1976 are really good and a couple others. but yes, I agree that after All The Girls Beware they lost it. Go To Hell was Alice's last good effort. He got worse into his bad world. I just wish they original band got back together before Glen died. I met Michael in the late '90..Real nice guy!
unreal living durring that time .When I was 17 I wore out this song or my ( record player) whis I had it back. I made it past 18 now at 53 I still play my air strums with him and his sound.
great to see a classic video like this, I have been a ac fan since 1970 and have never seen this video, becuase technogy and availability was no available to me. Like I say the lyrics are closer I am 80 and get confused every day becuase I am senile, keep the dream alive, and give the younger generation the joy that I had through the music,
@klepetar Alice - like all artists - are at their best when they first come out & Billion was not at their begining - but it was good. - I was about 15 when they came out - they were very big!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I was born in 1958 and 15 when BDB came out. Alice Cooper was HUGE. As Alice said in Behind The Music on VH1, who knows how big they could have been. Unfortunately, it was Alice who broke up the band. The remaining members are still friends. I can't believe they don't do a tour together. This video is awesome. The band sounds great.
Just brilliant! Raw. Zero production. Slightly threatening. I love their matching silver costumes. I wish real bands could still get away with this CLASSIC look!
I never thought I'd ever say that Alice is really horny in this vid :) Amazing. Good song and album too ...I bought my copy in 1974 and still have it, no turntable to play it on though..
@udofun2 .....me 2, 18 when this came out, my personal theme song, even now.....knew a guy that got mugged after a concert at the Grande Ballroom......yeah, what does Cleveland have to do w/it?
@averagenetfool The SG that Michael's using must of been custom ordered because SG Special's had P-90 pickups, DOT inlays and unbound fretboard (not trapezoid inlays or bound fretboard) and they came with a different type of whammy bar bridge (not a Bigsby). Or it could be an SG Standard modified with P-90's.
@JNDGuitarman Thanks for the added info! I just looked harder and found this from an interview he did with Gibson, "I remember my first SG, which had a single-coil black pickup. Later, I got an SG Special, with two humbuckers, and put my original single-coil pickups in that guitar. That gave it a really nice fat sound.". So, he either modified a Standard or a Deluxe with the P-90s. I guess. I don't know. Now I have a headache! :)
He was a troublemaker from Detroit long before we would ever hear from the likes of Ted Nugent, Madonna, and Eminem. The question, therefore, is this: Should we blame Alice Cooper for them? Fair question.
way back on vh1 closet classics they used to rotate another version of this. towards the end he breaksa into the chorus of american pie and starts guzzling from a huge jack daniels bottle.
love alices eyes looks like he BORROWED miss mercy's mascara from zappa's all girl band the gto's.frank was instrumental in getting alice off the ground.
Ya I was 19 when this came out. Applied to my life a lot. Went to huge war protest in DC in 71. Went to Kent State 72-74. My sister saw the killings including one of her friends. Dudes, life was very different back then.
@Richard2003 That is why I feel sorry for anyone growing up now. Even if they see this, they just can't appreciate it in the context of the era it was birthed in. Unfortunately, I can barely remember these years, being very young. But I do remember the 70's and the lingering residual effects of the 60's. I truly believe that anyone who wasn't there will NEVER be able to completely grasp the impact and uniqueness of AC and many other acts from this wonderful period in music history
I must admitt and confess..................we were some wild and crazy teens in the 70's but we had a lot of fun. You name it and we have probably been there and done that. Bell bottoms, 8 track tapes, fast cars, chicks in halter tops, Jamacian Red, and the list is endless. Lot's of Fun, Lot's of Memories, and Lot's of lessons learned in the 70's. I would go back but it would probably kill me this time. Still Rocking in NC to the 70's. What about you?
The hair!! This is wild as hell of a video. Good Ol Detroit band. Fresh young age of 26 here but grew up listening to Alice and to this day, one of the best acts I've ever heard! Took them long enough to get in the RRHOF though, which I don't agree with. Alice Cooper had a greatest hits album before previous inductees barely learned to wipe there own asses.
I've always loved the band as a whole, every person fits perfect musically. The guitarist is bad ass too
this probably is 1971. I saw them about this time in Michigan at Sherwood Forest in Davison Michigan. And that what they looked like. Look how young he looks. They were great. And fun to put on the the old Lps of Love it to Death and Killer. Two of the best LP's ever. B
In an era that pop music was at the top , it was a grate luck that alice cooper, black sabbath, frank zappa, deep purple and some more bands and artists, showed the world, the power and the quality of rock in every of its forms.
IMO - From 1965 - 1975 are the best 10 years in music ever. I mean you have, The Who, Alice Cooper, Jimi Hendrix, Cream, The Beatles, Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, Jefferson Airplane, Black Sabbath, Canned Heat and many many more awesome bands. We will never have another 10 years like that. Never.
I saw Alice Cooper "Billion Dollar Babies" tour, 1973...I was 15....my friend Tish and I loved Alice...we had our locker at school plastered with his pictures!!
Graduating High School in 72, this song was blastin in every jukebox that summer, this version pre-dates most that I have seen. This video presents a very good perspective into the era when we all wore long hair and bell-bottoms, listened to loud music and enjoyed being 18, 18 and I like it.

@TahoeRocker There's an interview where Dennis says it's a EB-0, but looks like a EB-3 to me. Called the "Frog", it's now on loan to the r&r hall of fame.
@averagenetfool ok cool then i was basically on track. i knew it wasn't gonna be an ACTUAL SG lol i've really only seen Jack Bruce play that stuff tho, i had no idea it was called an EB, electric bass i guess? pretty simple. thanks
@slamoslut If you really need to know asshole, I've talked to Dennis Dunaway about this bass. He's very willing to chat up folks. Especially ones who don't act like an immature, punk 7th grader like yourself.
It's to bad there dosen't seem to be a wide variety of original live alice cooper lineup shows (at least from what i've seen on YouTube), but i'm thankful for this because this is just great to see.
@stuka52 Gotta' LOVE that "metal"/"rocker" look-something that, in my opinion, A LOT of heavy rock bands, TODAY, UNFORTUNATELY, choose to either ignore, condemn, and/or ridicule.
@slamoslut The Midwestern United States (in the U.S. generally referred to as the Midwest) is one of the four geographic regions within the United States of America used by the United States Census Bureau in its reporting.
The region consists of twelve states in the north-central United States: Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota and Wisconsin.
@lilyslimit yes..Killer was the best album I think..I went from Bobby Sherman to Alice Cooper in a matter of months..I think my mother was freaking out!
@luvmusic1957 LMAO!! I can just imagine. I started listening to Alice Cooper when I was 12 or 13, who knows what my mother thought of my tastes, who cares, she was wrong about most things concerning me anyway, lol!
@luvmusic1957 I did to, close to that time! GREAT concert, SUCH a showman, he had huge swinging chains, "monsters" on the stage, GREAT image effects. This song is one of my fav of ALL songs from anyone!!!
@luvmusic1957 When you saw him in '71, who did he open for or did someone for him? Don't mean to "put you on the spot," but, I wish was a teenager or an adult in or during the '70s. In my opinion, SO MUCH GREAT MUSIC that it puts the '90s and today's music to complete shame!
What can I say... You have to understand the time Its the 1970's Two Years after Woodstock The War In Vietnam The Massacre at Kent State May 4th 1970 Revoloution on the streets of America And Alice Cooper is one of our heros He Thumbs His Nose at society And embodies the counter culture We become his disciples His music becomes our anthems Alice in his prime Thank You !!!!
@pghpa611 todays youth are too concerned with xbox live or what pop star to emulate to shake up the system. people bitch about todays music but america feels like it's crumbling and everyone acts like they don't care. the kids now wouldn't know a good song if it slapped them in the face. back then was sure some crazy times.
still love this song. long time since i was 18 j.f.m.t.t. he he

It's to bad there dosen't seem to be a wide variety of original live alice cooper lineup shows (at least from what i've seen on YouTube), but i'm thankful for this because this is just great to see.

As Neil Smith grabbed at the ring of conformity "ALICE-COOPER " chose a life long career in entertainment and became a American LEGEND!

All I know is I thought I had long hair in 1971 (almost to my Nips) but damn that band has some hair! God bless us freaks from the midwest.

@stuka52 Gotta' LOVE that "metal"/"rocker" look-something that, in my opinion, A LOT of heavy rock bands, TODAY, UNFORTUNATELY, choose to either ignore, condemn, and/or ridicule.

@stuka52 Since when was Detriot midwest?
slamoslut 1 year ago
@slamoslut The Midwestern United States (in the U.S. generally referred to as the Midwest) is one of the four geographic regions within the United States of America used by the United States Census Bureau in its reporting.
The region consists of twelve states in the north-central United States: Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota and Wisconsin.

@luvmusic1957 I was 11 and just tuning into the whole music thing--the KILLER album was the coolest!!!!
lilyslimit 1 year ago
@lilyslimit yes..Killer was the best album I think..I went from Bobby Sherman to Alice Cooper in a matter of months..I think my mother was freaking out!
luvmusic1957 1 year ago
@luvmusic1957 LMAO!! I can just imagine. I started listening to Alice Cooper when I was 12 or 13, who knows what my mother thought of my tastes, who cares, she was wrong about most things concerning me anyway, lol!
lilyslimit 1 year ago
@luvmusic1957 I did to, close to that time! GREAT concert, SUCH a showman, he had huge swinging chains, "monsters" on the stage, GREAT image effects. This song is one of my fav of ALL songs from anyone!!!
Kammerz10 1 year ago
@luvmusic1957 When you saw him in '71, who did he open for or did someone for him? Don't mean to "put you on the spot," but, I wish was a teenager or an adult in or during the '70s. In my opinion, SO MUCH GREAT MUSIC that it puts the '90s and today's music to complete shame!

Me too. I was actually born in 1971, so I was in diapers when this video was made. Alice is so damned hot isn't he?

@pghpa611 todays youth are too concerned with xbox live or what pop star to emulate to shake up the system. people bitch about todays music but america feels like it's crumbling and everyone acts like they don't care. the kids now wouldn't know a good song if it slapped them in the face. back then was sure some crazy times.
