I disagree; I think the contrast of a mellow beat and Dilla's rough verses makes it that much better. The original is a fantastic track and picking between Madlib and Dilla is like picking between steak and lobster. These are the two best beat makers ever in my opinion. But saying that Madlib is sloppy...that just makes you look foolish.

But as any dilla fan knows sloppy does not = whack, Dilla himself was one of the sloppiest drum programmers in the entire history of samplers- and that's exactly what made him so unique

Seems like people have a different definition of sloppy - you are thinking of something a little off, a little different type of beat. I don't think that's what Saint was saying in his comment - i think he meant sloppy as in something rushed that came out poorly - that's how i read it. I don't think Madlib ever rushes beats or makes sloppy beats.

I also would never call Dilla's drums sloppy - just different. So I guess I'm not a Dilla fan?

I think what you mean is he did not QUANTIZE his drums.. He programmed most if not all his drums free hand.. I wouldn't call it sloppy though, its actually quite difficult to do as you need to have a good understanding of rhythm, which some people don't have.. I guess you can call drum breaks sloppy too.. lol
