The 80's started a year or two early- Maggie coming in in the UK, and musically stuff like this and in the US, Devo etc. Once disco ran out of steam/ into a wall, (and punk had moderated/ intellectualised into New Wave), there was more room for synthpop like this.
I once saw in a documentary how M in the studio showed on the mix panel how he built up the song... and doing some sounds on/off, just to show how cool some sounds in this song are used!
'There's a man outside wearing long coat, grey hat smoking a cigarette....Numan had the image in mind months before this was a hit...I think Are friends electric was in the charts about the same time as this......1979 what a year for music...Numan, Blondie, B52s, Talking Heads.....aaaahhhhhh comeback 1979 please.
This might have been the video that gave everybody the idea for their music videos in the 80s from Gary Numan to Devo to just about the rest of the new wave/pop music in the 80s.
@MrMopar4ever Ahem.. Ok well what I meant wuzzz, Although this song is from "79" it has Always reminded me of an 80's song...And I'm sure a lot of people "think" it Is in fact an "80's" song. So I'm sorry if I threw you off with my comment bro....But I'm NOT crazy!....I'm Not !! I'm NOT !!! I'm NOT !!!!
If you go by Pop historians or Billboard, this was the big "new wave" hit at the time, but I only remember "Cars", "Whip It" and "Video Killed the Radio Star". I only remember hearing this song later and it always felt like cheap self-parody to me.
The skinny chicks dancing in this vid have tight ass pants on that all the girls fat and skinny are wearing where I live...its like Leggings Central and it's gross!!! It's like "Ladies! Have some self respect!" I'm not a prude, I just think that women should wear looser clothes instead of showing all the goodies and baddies of their bodies! 'Cause some of us don't wanna see that shit!
@jrquist404 - Good point. Some folks don't know the difference between an entertainment video and what to wear in real life. Most-times the two are not equal.
I used to listen to this song when I was really really young and had no clue what it was about or anything, and I wasn't even alive in 1979. Wow, this takes me back!
Reminds me of the California Disco scene 79-80.. back when you could get laid if you knew how to dance and didnt have to worry about getting an STD that penicillian couldnt cure,, lol NOT THAT I WOULD KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT THAT<< LOL
@pruane--LOL--that dude can do any dance he wants--he has two chicks in stretch pants gyrating around him and stroking up and down his legs. Pretty cool in my book no matter what fake robot dance or whatever he wants to do. :)
Great look back to the "post disco/pre-new wave" era...thanks for posting
OHH NOOO lol I had forgotten all about this song and just happened up on it. I remember this being played in the roller skating days. Thanks for posting and bringing back some old memories!!
If you aint got sumfing objective to say then why bother. I hate comments like 'U fuckin suck' and 'sick music'.... keep your stupid comments to yourself

To whom it may be interesting for "Pop Muzik" is a 1979 hit song by M, a project by Robin Scott.
