Its very smooth oil primed linen, pulled tight on a heavy stretcher frame. Masonite or acrylic gessoed canvass would also allow you to remove it fairly easily. Plus I used a lot of mineral spirits and steel wool.
Great work! I was looking at painting videos to try and work up the motivation to actually get some @#$% painting done hehe. I was wondering, is that illustration board, masonite, heavily primed canvas, or something else? Maybe it's just the effect of the time-lapse and/or the video quality but that support seems pretty rigid, and the surface seems pretty smooth for you to be able to wipe away all of the paint so easily. I'm thinking about switching to wood panels myself.
Wow man....all I can say.....is you drew me into the action all the way...Quite impressed.....liked the whole thing..."One artist to another" Thumbs up!
wash base? Do you mean the first paintng of sissy's body? Everything is oil. you could use acrylic (very thin) for a first pass, but I rarely see much advantage in doing so, and if I did I wouldn't be able to scrub it out unless I was using some heavy drying retardants, and since using lots of retardant is archivally questionable, especially in an underpainting, better to just use some of the faster drying oils.
Drooling! For some reason i felt like i was 5 again watching Sesame Street, only way more bad ass. Happy good feelings all around. You make beautiful paintings and i love your editing too.
Paul, its good to see how you've progressed from painting giant pecs on self-portraits and masturbating mimes. Seriously though, really cool stuff. I'm proud to say I knew you when you were honing your chops. If you ever get back to Ohio, give me and George a call.
The music is basically (other than REO) just generic music from imovie media files, which I gave some personality by adding the cheering and booing kids, also imovie sound efffects.
A wonderful use of video and painting skills to make a work of art in itself. Took ages to load for me here in France - but well worth the wait! Also sent on to me by 8x10 - one of her better ideas! lol :-)

Did you do what I think you did or was that just 'nice editing'.
Loved it. The way you changed Sissi's face. Hair up, mouth, eyes, to get it right. Pure magic when you see it. Pure magic when you do it.
A very, very sweet work of art. Thanks.

Sorry. All that cheap beer must have affected my memory. But was I right about the pecs?
markkremser 3 years ago
I like to think the pecs were just "severe lighting".
