This guy is like a National Treasure for Indians. Part-Time Indian, The Toughest Indian In the World, and Flight are my favorites. Indian Killer was too sad and traumatic. I plan on reading and rereading these gems for the rest of my life. Thanks Sherman.
we have read this book in englich lesson in a german school. oh yeah! its full of irony , grief and fun! an amazing mix. wish me luck for tomorrows class test :p
when will native and non-native authors refer to theyre native subjects by theyre Real titles?? a CREE, etc, is not an INDIAN!! i doubt any Cree ever heard of Sharukh Khan!! and every Indian on earth knows who Sharukh khan is!
@CrazyNative4 I suppose you're wondering that because of the way he speaks? If you read "The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian" or googled him, you would know that he was born with hydrocephalic, which may have gave him a lisp and stuttering problem. I don't know how close to the truth the book is, but he does call it an autobiography, so it appears to be something that he overcame.
This has got to be one of my favorite interviews of Alexie. Yes, I am an Alexie Junkie. I cannot help myself. I am drawn to every word that he says. His works have spoken to me in so many ways. I love how open he gets. Finally, after many years we can almost see into Alexies's heart. I am so happy that he is beginning to write more books that tend to be more personal. Be sure to read his newest, "War Dances". It is AMAZING!!!!
Hey everyone, I saw Sherman Alexie tonight. He spoke here at Central Washington University in Washington. He's absolutely hillarious. Just an awesome individual. Check him out!
I'm finishing this book right now and I started it yesterday. It's funny and thoughtful, I just love how much insight we get to his culture. He's a very good author.
Its so awesome to see this. I have many family members that live on the reservation, and have also spent a lot of time up there, where he is from. Its nice to see someone from Wellpinit write about it a little bit! Fabulous!
I did years ago...Loved it! It was really weird for though cuz I know Washington state and California really well...so almost every scene in the book really took me there, I was on a journey for real, Shermans very intense, great thriller. ;)
oh i have to read one of his best books (the absoulutly true diary of a part time indian)for my high skool summer reading and i already started to read it and it is funny lub iit!=]
He was my professor. He's amazing and a really funny person. Alexie is great in front of the audience and you can always find a way to connect with him when he speaks. His class is my all time favorite.
"Things are funny because they either say something people have been thinking all along and were afraid to say it, or it reveals something that people knew but didn't have the words for." (09:15/09:57) --Sherman Alexie
The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian was an incredible book. Laughed my butt off the whole time, but at others, my heart was almost broken. 5/5 Book definetly. Guys, read this.
yes, he certainly connected to me...thousands of miles away...such an intelligent man! he gets straight to my heart, everytime, and tears it in half...notice how the people in this video burst out in laughter before he even opens his mouth to talk...just because of the look on his face...great man!
Oh man, every single time I read anything by Alexie I burst out laughing. Check out "toughest indian in the world" and "ten little indians" they're collections of short stories by Alexie, sooo good. Can't wait to pick up part time Indian
Flight was shelved in Adult Fiction at my local library. Just interesting.

We were trying to pass as White Indians and most of my family now gone, took that to the grave with them.
such a missed opportunity, when we are the people who can laugh and turn pain and tragedy into humour and enlighten those that oppress.
That is alchemy in the purest sense and you Alexie are the court jester in my fairytale!
